Wind speed forecasting has proven to be crucial for many domains like power generation. However, it is quite convoluted and demanding due to the unpredictability of the wind. Numerous physical and statistical methods have been employed in the past by the researchers in India and over the years, these methods have been improvised. While the physical methods prove to be computationally expensive and the statistical methods represent weaker generalizations of non-linear features, there arises a need to develop much more efficient and robust approaches that can augment with the traditional methodologies. Artificial Intelligence has shown tremendous potential in providing solutions to time-series forecasting tasks, akin to the precise task that this work aims to address. Various machine learning and deep learning algorithms have been found to be a prominent choice for forecasting of various weather parameters. This work aims at implementing two machine learning algorithms, namely, Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LGBM) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network to obtain short-term forecasts of wind speed of Indian weather stations. Robust feature engineering approaches like Miss Forest to fill in the missing values, a novel feature representation for giving importance to recent data, and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) with Digital Filters for removal of outliers and noises in the data have been used. Finally, stacking, an ensemble learning has been implemented using LGBM and LSTM as base learners and Random Forest as the metalearner. The average Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) (in m/s to tenths) obtained by individual models is high. 24-hour wind forecast errors of LGBM and LSTM are 8.19 and 21.17, whereas the forecast error using the proposed ensemble framework is 5.74.

An indoor wireless network comprises of multiple devices connected wirelessly in a small geographical area, giving mobility to the connected devices. RF signal associated with wireless networks suffers from many propagation losses. It becomes essential to estimate losses at different locations, in the intended coverage area, to attain the desired performance seamlessly. It helps in the optimal device placement in the wireless networks. In the application, in addition to the propagation losses, there is a need to estimate the loss induced by the presence of smoke and fire, individually, in an indoor environment. This paper first deals with the design of a heatmap generating tool, in MATLAB, which gives the approximate signal strength at different locations on a given floor for a given transmitter. Then the paper discusses the formation of plasma in fast flaming fires and presents the path loss due to it. This path loss is incorporated in the heatmap generating tool and a heatmap is generated for our office ground floor for the case of a flaming fire. The paper also describes a testbed, setup in our office premises, to study the scattering loss caused by smoke particles. © 2018, The Institution of Engineers (India).

As the digital world is growing widespread crime in the cyberspace is also increasing. Knowledge sharing and utilization of services attracts to use the digital devices, but the concern here is malicious usage of the system. If the crime takes place over the network how to collect it, analyze it and investigate based on the evidences. So, the role of forensic and incident response is crucial here. Digital forensics is categorized in Disk, Live, Network and Mobile Forensics. Anomaly or attack over the network comes under network forensic branch. In this paper extensive literature review is performed to compare the latest intrusion detection systems and based on the learning's a system is proposed which covers the peer to peer architecture system and utilization of web robots to trace the attack and log it in a form which will be a useful input for forensic investigation and analysis work. © 2019 IEEE.

Online signature verification system is a technique based on behavioural biometrics which is gaining popularity for its widespread acceptability due to ease of use and forge proof ***(dynamic) signatures are captured from pressure sensitive tablets,signature pads,tablet PCs for further *** paper depicts the working mechanism of such a system capable of verifying the true signers as well as detecting the forgery *** the signature data collection,the signatures were preprocessed for future use.A set of total 58 different features(local,global and normalized) were extracted from the online signature *** system presents a binary classification technique since the test signature is categorized into one of the two classes(genuine or false).Template matching based Dynamic Time Warping(DTW) classifier is used for training and testing purposes with an average recognition rate of 90% for true signers.A separate version of the system was also developed which blocks random and skilled forgeries with a high level of accuracy though the TN rate is higher than the system described here.

DNS is a critical infrastructure service of the Internet that translates hostnames to network IP addresses and vice versa. The criticality of DNS can be evidenced by the fact that all most all organizations and enterprises do not block DNS traffic, as it would eventually stop access to the Internet. As a result, attackers have been exploiting the DNS infrastructure and using it as a launchpad for carrying out various attacks e.g. DoS/DDoS, DNS reflection & amplification, DNS tunneling, NXDOMAIN attack, and DNS hijacking, etc. During the historic implementation of DNS protocol, its security was not considered which lead to the exploitation of various vulnerabilities in the DNS *** paper brings out the technicalities behind DNS amplification and DNS tunneling attacks and presents a number of countermeasures and mitigation techniques to protect against these attacks and the DNS Infrastructure.

Visual content-based information retrieval intended message retrieval from infographics and their applications are gaining attention in many scientific domains. This seeks an understanding of the structure and correct semantics of infographics. Parsing flowchart and analyzing each element of infographics in the correct sequence is challenging. Using computer vision techniques, reconstruction of the structure in digital format is possible and can help to understand the features of the structure. This paper describes technical details to extract various elements of a 2D flowchart in a meaningful sequence, relate elements as connected in a flowchart and represent in conventional data structures. Region-based segmentation with adaptive thresholding and morphological operations are applied for feature extraction. The graph is generated by maintaining the semantics of the flowchart. The experimental results are evaluated for semantic correctness of flowchart and found that 90% of generated graphs are semantically correct as a flowchart.

Representation of 2D frameless visual space as neural manifold and its modelling in the frame work of information geometry is presented. Origin of hyperbolic nature of the visual space is investigated using evidences from neuroscience. Based on the results we propose that the processing of spatial information, particularly estimation of distance, perceiving geometrical curves etc. in the human brain can be modelled in a parametric probability space endowed with Fisher-Rao metric. Compactness, convexity and differentiability of the space is analysed and found that they obey the axioms of G space, proposed by Busemann. Further it is shown that it can be considered as a homogeneous Riemannian space of constant negative curvature. It is therefore ensured that the space yields geodesics into it. Computer simulation of geodesics representing a number of visual phenomena and advocating the hyperbolic structure of visual space is carried out. Comparison of the simulated results with the published experimental data is presented. © 2020, CC-BY-NC-SA.

In present context, crime is a social problem that maximum cities use to face. Shillong is one of the most populated and important tourist hub of North Eastern India. From the view points of economical, residential, administrative and tourist importance, assessment of crime is very significant for Shillong. To assess crime scenario in Shillong municipal area, GIS techniques have been applied. Service area of each police stations have been generated. Shortest routes have been identified from the police stations to location of crime. In conventional EV powertrain, Battery is the sole energy storage. This makes higher transient current stress on battery during operation, which shall reduce the life of the battery considerably. The size of the battery may required to be over rated to take care heavy transient demands with respect to its C rating. The regenerative braking capability of Electric power train is also gets limited due to the charging transient limitations in Battery. This eventually results in poor EV power train designs and vehicle performance. A hybrid energy storage system with Battery as primary energy source and Ultra capacitor as transient power manager is proposed as a viable solution. The combination shall provide better utilization of regenerative power, thus increase overall efficiency and range. The secondary storage can absorb all transients during regeneration and supply transients when required, during motoring. This can reduce the transient stress on battery increase the life. Cost effective Power train solution is also a major challenge in practical EV system design, and the proposed architecture is without dedicated DCDC converter for battery. The control logic can be formulated so as to meet the transient supplies of the load by ultra-capacitor and indirectly reduce that from battery. This provides low capacity DC-DC converter design, which could be appropriately overloaded for transient demands, thus reducing the overall size also. This can reduce the overall cost of EV power train. This paper discusses Hybrid Energy Storage System configuration for Battery Electric Vehicles and its Power Management strategy. The ultracapacitor is connected to DC bus using bidirectional converter in current control mode. Power split mechanism is implemented such that, drive current transient requirements, is met by the ultracapacitor depending on its voltage condition and remaining current requirement is met by battery.

The era of high-performance computing has rapidly evolved into heterogeneous computing by bringing together architecturally different devices in computer systems; with a promise of opportunities to enhance the application performance using the different computational units. The benefits of heterogeneous computing are yielded through hybrid applications having specific programming models and instructions that help in the execution of tasks on to corresponding computing devices. In a large HPC system, the computational power of the heterogeneous devices is harnessed with judicious mechanisms of tasks execution based on resource availability. In heterogeneous clusters, the jobs in the queue experience increased turnaround time due to demand for accelerators for the execution of code. This paper describes the concept and implementation of an adaptive and dynamic load re-targeting scheme for applications on heterogeneous platforms to reduce the turnaround time of jobs.
