Pap smear images classification based on surrounding tissues: A comparative study

Cervical cancer is one of the most known health problems faced by women around the world. Early detection of cervical cancer may reduce the mortality rate. Pap smear images are new techniques used for screening cervical cancer. This paper excludes the nucleus of pap smear images, and the resultant images are classified into seven classes based on the surrounding region nucleus. Automated features are extracted using three pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNN). The resultant features are twenty-one. The principal component analysis reduces the dimensionality and selects the most significant features into ten features. These features are fed to two types of machine learning algorithms: support vector machine (SVM) classifier and random forest classifier. The support vector machine classifier achieved the highest accuracy for seven classes, reaching 93.1%. This method will help the physicians in the diagnosis of cervical cancer depending on the tissues, not the nucleus. Furthermore, the result can be enhanced using a huge amount of data.

Blockchain is a relatively new technology that can be seen as a decentralized database. Blockchain systems heavily rely on cryptographic hash functions to store their data, which makes it difficult to tamper with any data stored in the system. A topic that was researched along with blockchain is image authentication. Image authentication focuses on investigating and maintaining the integrity of images. As a blockchain system can be useful for maintaining data integrity, image authentication has the potential to be enhanced by blockchain. There are many techniques that can be used to authenticate images;the technique investigated by this work is image hashing. Image hashing is a technique used to calculate how similar two different images are. This is done by converting the images into hashes and then comparing them using a distance formula. To investigate the topic, an experiment involving a simulated blockchain was created. The blockchain acted as a database for images. This blockchain was made up of devices which contained their own unique image hashing algorithms. The blockchain was tested by creating modified copies of the images contained in the database, and then submitting them to the blockchain to see if it will return the original image. Through this experiment it was discovered that it is plausible to create an image authentication system using blockchain and image hashing. However, the design proposed by this work requires refinement, as it appears to struggle in some situations. This work shows that blockchain can be a suitable approach for authenticating images, particularly via image hashing. Other observations include that using multiple image hash algorithms at the same time can increase performance in some cases, as well as that each type of test done to the blockchain has its own unique pattern to its data. © 2020, CC BY.

The increasing global demand for renewable energy has accelerated the adoption of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems. However, conventional PV inverters often rely on transformers, which add to the system’s cost, size, and power losses. Transformerless inverter topologies have emerged as a promising alternative, offering improved efficiency, compact design, and lower costs. Despite these advantages, challenges such as high total harmonic distortion (THD), common mode voltage (CMV) issues, and neutral current imbalance must be addressed to ensure reliable grid integration. This research investigates a transformerless five-level neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter for grid-connected PV applications, aiming to overcome these challenges. The study focuses on analysing THD, mitigating CMV to enhance system reliability, and optimizing output voltage levels to meet grid standards. The proposed transformerless five-level NPC inverter, incorporating a coupled inductor, is controlled using Hexagonal Space Vector Modulation (HSVM) to improve performance. Additionally, the research evaluates neutral current behavior to ensure stability and compliance with grid codes. Simulation and experimental results validate the proposed system’s effectiveness under varying operating conditions, highlighting its potential as a high-efficiency, cost-effective solution for sustainable energy integration into the grid. © The Author(s) 2025.

Future communication systems are anticipated to facilitate applications requiring high data transmission rates while maintaining energy efficiency. Hexagonal quadrature amplitude modulation (HQAM) offers this owing to its compact symbol arrangement within the two-dimensional (2D) plane. Due to the structure of its hexagonal lattice, accurately calculating the error probability is highly challenging, if not entirely impractical. Building on the limitations of the current approaches, this paper presents a straightforward and precise approximation for calculating the symbol error probability (SEP) of HQAM in an additive white Gaussian noise channel. Simulations show the proposed approximation is highly accurate for all hexagonal QAM constellations. A novel cluster-based detection method with low computational complexity is proposed. The method ensures that its computational demand remains unaffected by increase in constellation order. Additionally, the average SEP performance of the system is evaluated under a practical scenario with imperfect channel state information over Nakagami-m fading channels. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper reports on the NTIRE 2023 Quality Assessment of Video Enhancement Challenge, which will be held in conjunction with the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement Workshop (NTIRE) at CVPR 2023. This challenge is to address a major challenge in the field of video processing, namely, video quality assessment (VQA) for enhanced videos. The challenge uses the VQA Dataset for Perceptual Video Enhancement (VDPVE), which has a total of 1211 enhanced videos, including 600 videos with color, brightness, and contrast enhancements, 310 videos with deblurring, and 301 deshaked videos. The challenge has a total of 167 registered participants. 61 participating teams submitted their prediction results during the development phase, with a total of 3168 submissions. A total of 176 submissions were submitted by 37 participating teams during the final testing phase. Finally, 19 participating teams submitted their models and fact sheets, and detailed the methods they used. Some methods have achieved better results than baseline methods, and the winning methods have demonstrated superior prediction performance. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The foundation model has recently garnered significant attention due to its potential to revolutionize the field of visual representation learning in a self-supervised manner. While most foundation models are tailored to effectively process RGB images for various visual tasks, there is a noticeable gap in research focused on spectral data, which offers valuable information for scene understanding, especially in remote sensing (RS) applications. To fill this gap, we created for the first time a universal RS foundation model, named SpectralGPT, which is purpose-built to handle spectral RS images using a novel 3D generative pretrained transformer (GPT). Compared to existing foundation models, SpectralGPT 1) accommodates input images with varying sizes, resolutions, time series, and regions in a progressive training fashion, enabling full utilization of extensive RS big data;2) leverages 3D token generation for spatial-spectral coupling;3) captures spectrally sequential patterns via multi-target reconstruction;4) trains on one million spectral RS images, yielding models with over 600 million parameters. Our evaluation highlights significant performance improvements with pretrained SpectralGPT models, signifying substantial potential in advancing spectral RS big data applications within the field of geoscience across four downstream tasks: single/multi-label scene classification, semantic segmentation, and change detection. This study presents a conceptual paper on developing a model of cyberterrorists’ rhetorical structure. The objectives of the study are to identify the type of rhetoric’s in cyber terrorists’ communication, analyze how the cyber terrorists utilize appeal to audience, stylistic devices and argumentation in their communication and to propose a model of cyber terrorists’ rhetorical structure. A rhetorical analysis is conducted by examining recent cyberterrorists sites in popular media. Several categories are utilized;Appeal to the audience;Stylistic devices and Argumentation model. Analysis of the ionospheric parameters on the ionogram is important for the study of ionospheric physics and related field. This paper introduces an application program tool used for extracting ionospheric profile parameters on the ionogram from the South East Asia Low-latitude Ionospheric Network FMCW ionosonde measurement. The software runs under Windows operating system and has a user-friendly graphical user interface to accept alphanumeric input entry. In addition to the parameters on the ionogram dataset, the SEAIONO reader program is capable of computing the maximum height of the ionospheric F2 layer and the bottomside ionospheric F2 layer (B0). © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Business Intelligence is a technology for collecting, transforming, and presenting data for analysis as a tool for supporting decision making. Business Intelligence using Data Warehouse, Multidimensional data, and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) has proven to be useful for obtaining information and knowledge relevant to the business. Nowadays the development of the internet with Web 2.0 model is increasing the availability of data over the internet. Linked Open Data (LOD), Open Data, and Open Government Data is constantly growing, producing a large amount of valuable data in the form of semi-structured data, flexible and machine-readable. Data sharing on agricultural production is one of the requirements for the best of analysis of agricultural production, but most of the data is still in the format of 2/3-stars open data and does not yet have spatial data that facilitates analysis based on spatial dimensions. The emerging open data concept makes the data warehouse more dynamic and can accommodate external data. Spatiotemporal support in open data also enables a more sophisticated analysis of data with spatial queries. This research develops tools to integrate agricultural data originating from the Village and Rural Area information Systems (SIDeKa) that has open distributed data, a service-oriented approach, and spatiotemporal data. This paper also describes the design of business intelligence and multidimensional data for analysis and decision-making tools that enable spatiotemporal and non-spatial based analysis. This paper also highlights the opportunities for scaling and sustaining the initiative.
