This study analyzed 287 articles on e-participation within social media, which were retrieved from the Scopus online databases as of 11 December 2022. The aim was to identify crucial areas and significant contributors within the field and recent research trends. The findings indicate that the trend of e-participation was slow to start, with researchers primarily from Western nations. The field still struggles to establish itself as an independent area of research, and identity-related issues are prevalent. In addition, the subject of e-participation through social media has received limited attention in the literature, with a focus on politicians’ groups and minimal consideration of government-driven initiatives. This study is among the first to analyze bibliometric trends in e-participation literature related to social media. It is revealed that the publication trends on e-participation did not portray any consistent increment over the years, although the adoption of ICT in public sectors is happening at a peak rate. The findings can guide future research in this area and underscore the importance of considering government-driven initiatives in e-participation research, as they play a critical role in shaping digital democracy. Nonetheless, it is essential to interpret these findings deliberately, as the dataset solely covers the Scopus database and may not comprehensively cover all available sources. Physics-based fluid simulation has played an increasingly important role in the computer graphics *** methods in this area have greatly improved the generation of complex visual effects and its computational *** techniques have emerged to deal with complex boundaries,multiphase fluids,gas-liquid interfaces,and fine *** parallel use of machine learning,image processing,and fluid control technologies has brought many interesting and novel research *** this survey,we provide an introduction to theoretical concepts underpinning physics-based fuid simulation and their practical implementation,with the aim for it to serve as a guide for both newcomers and seasoned researchers to explore the field of physics-based fuid simulation,with a focus on developments in the last *** by the distribution of recent publications in the field,we structure our survey to cover physical background;discretization approaches;computational methods that address scalability;fuid interactions with other materials and interfaces;and methods for expressive aspects of surface detail and *** a practical perspective,we give an overview of existing implementations available for the above methods.

This article presents an integrated current mode configurable analog block(CAB)system for field-programmable analog array(FPAA).The proposed architecture is based on the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor(CMOS)transistor level design where MOSFET transistors operating in the saturation region are *** proposed CAB architecture is designed to implement six of thewidely used current mode operations in analog processing systems:addition,subtraction,integration,multiplication,division,and pass *** functionality of the proposed CAB is demonstrated through these six operations,where each operation is chosen based on the user’s selection in the CAB interface *** architecture of the CAB system proposes an optimized way of designing and integrating only three functional cells with the interface circuitry to achieve the six ***,optimized programming and digital tuning circuitry are implemented in the architecture to control and interface with the functional ***,these designed programming and tuning circuitries play an essential role in optimizing the performance of the proposed *** of the proposed CMOS Transistor Based CAB system is carried out using Tanner EDA Tools in 0.35μm standard CMOS *** design uses a±1.5 V power supply and results in maximum 3 dB bandwidth of 34.9 MHz and an approximate size of 0.0537 *** demonstrates the advantages of the design over the current state-of-the-art designs presented for comparison in this ***,the proposed design has a clear aspect of simplicity,low power consumption,and high bandwidth operation,which makes it a suitable candidate for mobile telecommunications applications.

This paper seeks to assess a sustainable waste management practices in a higher education institution of Ghana. The driving force for this research is the increase in the volumes of daily waste on university campuses as a result of increasing number of students' enrolment and other university events and services. The mixed method approach was used for this study. A total sample of 214 students from Ghana communication technology University (GCTU) was used for the study. The research aimed at collating the requisite information from students from Level 100 to the graduate level on their assessments on solid waste management practices at GCTU. Findings from the studies revealed that the various types of solid waste generated by most students was paper which was not surprising in a school setting, followed by plastics waste and then organic waste. It was also discovered that students' perception and awareness of solid waste management practices at GCTU was good and commendable. Recommendations was directed to all stakeholders for need to adopt a zero-waste concept. Thus, a recommendation was made towards an establishment of a policy to aid in protecting the environment to enhance a serene environment for teaching and learning. © 2021 IEEE

Many machine learning models are applied on facial expression classification and there are three main issues affecting the performance of any algorithms in classifying emotions based on facial expressions, and these issues include image illumination, image quality and partial features recognition. Many approaches have been proposed to handle these issues. Unfortunately, one of the main challenges in detecting and classifying facial expression process is minimal differences of features between different types of emotions that can be used to differentiate these different types of emotions. Thus, there is a need to enrich each type of emotion with more relevant extracted features by having a more effective approach to extract features that can be used to represent each type of emotions more effectively and efficiently. This work addresses the issue of improving the emotion recognition accuracy by introducing a novel hybrid approach that combines the Depth Active Appearance Model (DAAM) and Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs). The proposed DAAM and DCNNs model can be used to assist one in identifying emotions and classify learner involvement and interest in the topic which are plotted as feedback to the instructor to improve learner experience. The proposed method is evaluated on two publicly available datasets namely, JAFFE and CK+ and the results are compared to the state-of-the-art results. The empirical study showed that the proposed DAMM-CNNs hybrid method managed to perform the face expression recognition with 97.4% for the JAFFE dataset and 96.9% for the CK+ dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Evaluating YOLO Variants with Transfer Learning for Real-Time UAV Obstacle Detection in Simulated Forest Environments

Autonomous navigation in forest environments poses significant challenges for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), where reliable obstacle detection is essential for safe operation. This study presents a detailed performance evaluation of recent YOLO models (v8–v11) using a realistic simulation environment built on Unreal Engine and AirSim. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to comprehensively benchmark YOLOv8–v11 in a UAV-based obstacle detection context, incorporating both onboard deployment factors and the impact of transfer learning (TL) using EfficientNet backbones. We analyze detection accuracy (mAP@50, precision, recall), inference time, FPS, and memory usage across all YOLO configurations, from lightweight (YOLOv8s) to high-performance models (YOLOv11x). TL significantly improved model performance;for instance, YOLOv8s showed a recall increase from 0.6318 to 0.7804 and mAP@50 from 0.7228 to 0.8447. YOLOv8m and YOLOv10b emerged as optimal models, offering the best trade-off between speed and detection accuracy for real-time UAV deployment. Larger models like YOLOv9c and YOLOv10x delivered superior accuracy but required more computational resources. The results offer practical guidance for selecting YOLO architectures in UAV-based obstacle detection tasks, balancing accuracy, speed, and deployment feasibility in complex environments. © 2013 IEEE.

Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) have gained considerable interests in numerous civil applications. To push forward its potentials, cellular-connected UAVs have been introduced. Nevertheless, cellular networks face several bottlenecks such as spectrum scarcity and limited concurrent connectivity. To address these issues, non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA) can be adopted. NOMA provides several opportunities for cellular-connected UAVs such as larger rate region, balanced performance between system throughput and fairness, and reduced delay. In this paper, we review important findings of the related studies, and outline new opportunities and challenges in NOMA for cellular-connected UAVs. Monte-Carlo simulations are then performed to analyze the new aerial user's(AU)'s signal characteristics and evaluate the NOMA performance for co-existence of AU and terrestrial user(TU). Our preliminary results show that NOMA is a promising strategy for cellular-connected UAVs.

In the contemporary educational landscape, student performance evaluation stands as a pivotal facet of pedagogical improvement. Recognizing the significance of attendance as a determinant of academic success has not been well evaluated. Thus, this project embarks on a comprehensive investigation to analyze, visualize, and enhance the understanding of the intricate relationship between attendance and student performance. In this study, the visual analytic tool that combines data visualization and machine learning techniques to perform some visual analysis of students' attendance and its impact on student performance are presented. The research methodology of this project involves a comprehensive Data Science Life Cycle method that consists of six steps. an in-depth analysis of attendance data collected from diverse Higher Learning Institutions, encompassing different grade levels and disciplines. Through rigorous statistical analysis and data mining techniques, aim to uncover meaningful patterns, correlations, and insights that illuminate the impact of attendance on student outcomes. Simultaneously, leveraging the robust features of Power BI, the project translates these findings into interactive, visually-rich dashboards and reports, facilitating a deeper understanding of the attendance-performance relationship. This holistic approach aims to empower educators, administrators, and students with the means to make informed decisions, optimize attendance strategies, and ultimately enhance academic outcomes in the ever-evolving educational ecosystem.

The paper presents a methodology to reduce Mutual Coupling (MC) in a 4-port dual-band Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) textile antenna, specifically designed for biomedical applications. This antenna utilizes MIMO technology and operates within the Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) and Fifth Generation (5G) across two distinct frequency bands: 2.45 GHz and 3.5 GHz. The structure comprises four octagonal patch antennas, each incorporating a bar and hexagonal slot, with individual patch dimensions of 48.5 x 30 mm. A hybrid approach to minimize MC is investigated for patches positioned at a proximity of 0.15λ. The antenna is evaluated with bending conditions in different curvature angles to test its robustness in practical on-body. The antenna achieves the MC of -30 dB and a maximum realized gain of 2.42 dBi at the lower band and 5.6 dBi at the upper band. Notably, the antenna’s performance exceeds the expected attenuation effects caused by the lossy nature of the human body, indicating a good agreement between the modeled and experimental results.
