The Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud computing model has become a compelling computing solution with a proven ability to reduce costs and improve resource efficiency. Virtualization has a key role in supporting the IaaS model. However, virtualization also makes it a target for potent rootkits because of the loss of control problem over the hosted Virtual Machines (VMs). This makes traditional in-guest security solutions, relying on operating system kernel trustworthiness, no longer an effective solution to secure the virtual infrastructure of the IaaS model. In this paper, we explore briefly the security problem of the IaaS cloud computing model, and present CloudSec, a new virtualization-aware monitoring appliance that provides active, transparent and real-time security monitoring for hosted VMs in the IaaS model. CloudSec utilizes virtual machine introspection techniques to provide fine-grained inspection of VM's physical memory without installing any monitoring code inside the VM. It actively reconstructs and monitors the dynamically changing kernel data structures instances, as a prior step to enable providing protection for kernel data structures. We have implemented a proof-of-concept prototype using VMsafe libraries on a VMware ESX platform. We have evaluated the system monitoring accuracy and the performance overhead of CloudSec.

There is an essential quest in the literature to open up the "black-box" of characteristics of the new information technology innovation by identifying the users' preferences on mobile service and service characteristics. In this paper, we study how Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach can be used to select the most important mobile service category. The results are based on a survey study in two universities in Turku/Finland. According to the findings, communication and information mobile services are the most important services for the respondents respectively, while entertainment services are the least important ones. The focus of this study is not on users of mobile services, but rather on mobile service characteristics. The results have important implications for mobile service/content providers on how to develop and implement specific mobile services.

As modern software systems operate in a highly dynamic context, they have to adapt their behaviour in response to changes in their operational environment or/and requirements. Triggering adaptation depends on detecting quality of service (QoS) violations by comparing observed QoS values to predefined thresholds. These threshold-based adaptation approaches result in late adaptations as they wait until violations have occurred. This may lead to undesired consequences such as late response to critical events. In this paper we introduce a statistical approach CREQA - Control Charts for the Runtime Evaluation of QoS Attributes. This approach estimates at runtime capability of a system, and then it monitors and provides early detection of any changes in QoS values allowing timely intervention in order to prevent undesired consequences. We validated our approach using a series of experiments and response time datasets from real world web services.

In this paper, a new approach in predicting the flank wear of Titanium Aluminum Nitrite (TiAlN) coatings using Adaptive Network Based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is implemented. TiAlN coated cutting tool is widely used in machining due to its excellent resistance to wear. The TiAlN coatings were formed using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) magnetron sputtering process. The substrate sputtering power, bias voltage and temperature were selected as the input parameters and the flank wear as an output of the process. A statistical design of experiment called Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used in collecting optimized data. The ANFIS model was trained using the limited experimental data. The triangular, trapezoidal, bell and Gaussian shapes of membership functions were used for inputs as well as output. The results of ANFIS model were validated with the testing data and compared with fuzzy rule-based and RSM flank wear models in terms of the root mean square error (RMSE), co-efficient determination (R2) and model accuracy (A). The result indicated that the ANFIS model using three bell shapes membership function obtained better result compared to the fuzzy and RSM flank wear models. The result also indicated that the ANFIS model could predict the output response in high prediction accuracy even using limited training data.

A statistical design of experiment called Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used in collecting optimized data. The fuzzy rules were constructed using actual experimental data. Meanwhile, the hardness values were generated using the RSM hardness model. Triangular shape of membership functions were used for inputs as well as output. The substrate sputtering power, bias voltage and temperature were selected as the input parameters and the coating hardness as an output of the process. The results of hybrid RSM-fuzzy model were compared against the experimental result and fuzzy single model based on the percentage error, mean square error (MSE), co-efficient determination (R 2 ) and model accuracy. The result indicated that the hybrid RSM-fuzzy model obtained the better result compared to the fuzzy single model. The hybrid model with seven triangular membership functions gave an excellent result with respective average percentage error, MSE, R 2 and model accuracy were 11.5%, 1.09, 0.989 and 88.49%. The good performance of the hybrid model showed that the RSM hardness model could be embedded in fuzzy rule-based model to assist in generating more fuzzy rules in order to obtain better prediction result.

Healthcare organization is very important for community in delivering a healthy life. Nurse is the person in charge that will handle the healthcare organization wisely. The nurses should get their duty roster with a wide hand to deliver a good service. There are some issue related to that needs to be classified such as the modes of operation and constraints. The most desirable environment for the nurses is the balance workload roster that will consider any preferences from them that is possible to achieve due to aim to give a respect and care about. Besides that, the solution approach that can be applied in their field must be clarified. In this paper, we will discuss the entire thing about the nurse rostering problem such as its constraints, the modes of operation, the process to complete a roster and the solution approach to this problem.

The principal objective of this work consists in reducing the chattering phenomenon and ensuring more improvement of performances the proposed control scheme especially ensuring the decoupling between the control of the two principle variables of the motor “speed and flux” and also the system's robustness towards parameter's variations and external perturbations. In fact and as a first step a control scheme based on the combination of feedback linearization control is first proposed. Then, and in order to ensure more robustness of the process towards parameter's variations and external perturbation...ect, sliding mode controllers are used. These controllers are based on a piecewise function for smoothing in order to reduce the effect of the chattering phenomenon which is harmful of the actuator. However, this smooth function is relied closely to the upper bound of uncertainties, which include parameter variations and external disturbances. So, fuzzy sliding mode controllers are investigated to solve this difficulty based on the method introduced by Ben-Galia et al. By replacing the gain and the signum of the attractivity function of sliding mode controllers by fuzzy maps. However, it seems that this technique couldn't reduced the chattering considerably which let the authors to propose another type of controllers based on Gaussian Radial Basis Function Neural Network (GRBFNN) which revealed some very interesting features and prove that such controllers are efficients to attempt the required objectives.

The demand for Internet content rose dramatically. Servers became more and more powerful and the bandwidth of end user connections and backbones grew constantly. Nevertheless users often experience poor performance when they access Web sites or download files. Reasons for such problems are often performance problems which occur directly on the servers (e.g. poor performance of server-side applications or during flash crowds), problems concerning the network infrastructure (e.g. long geographical distances, network overloads, etc.) and a surprising fact is that many people tend to access the same piece of information repeatedly. Web caching has been recognized as the effective schemes to alleviate the service bottleneck, minimize the user access latency and reduce the network traffic. Consequently, in this paper we discuss an alternative way to tackle these problems with an implementation of autonomous SPY tool. This tool is capable to self directed either to cache or not to cache the objects in a document based on the behavior of users' activities (number of object hits, script size of objects, and time to receive objects) in Internet based electronic services (e-services) for enhancing Web access.

Mashups, a new Web 2.0 technology provide the ability for easy creation of Web-Based applications by end-users. The uses of the mashups are often consumer related. In this paper we explore how mashups can be used in the enterprise area and hat the criteria for enterprise mashups are. We provide categories for the classification of enterprise mashups, and based upon a motivating example we go further in depth on business process enterprise mashups.

Web caching is a technology for improving network traffic on the internet. It is a temporary storage of Web objects (such as HTML documents) for later retrieval. There are three significant advantages to Web caching;reduced bandwidth consumption, reduced server load, and reduced latency. These rewards have made the Web less expensive with better performance. In this paper, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) approach is introduced for Web caching to determine the type of Web request, either to cache or not, and to optimize the performance on Web cache. Two methods are employed in this study;Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The experimental results have revealed that some improvements have been accomplished compared to the existing technique in terms of Web cache size. © 2008 IEEE.
