A Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) system enables users to control devices by acquiring and processing brain activity. An important component of a BCI system is feature extraction, which is responsible for representing brain signals in terms of essential components called features. This paper presents a comparison of the following feature extraction techniques for BCI;Common Spatial Patterns (CSP), Wavelength Optimal Spatial Filter (WOSF) and Approximate Entropy. The motivation for this work is the non-availability of comparative studies on the mentioned feature extraction techniques in literature. Further, even though CSP has been a widely used feature extraction technique for motor-imagery based BCI systems, entropy-based features, such as approximate entropy, and WOSF are still being explored. We investigate the use of approximate entropy and WOSF for feature extraction in motor imagery datasets of BCI Competitions, and compare the results with those obtained using CSP. It was observed that both WOSF and Approximate Entropy provide a higher classification accuracy as compared to CSP. © 2014 IEEE.

This research introduces a new dynamic thresholding method, designed for changing illumination conditions in image processing. Traditional fixed thresholds struggle with varying light due to factors like voltage changes, LED aging, etc. The proposed technique adapts thresholds using background image intensity as a reference, employing a supervised approach with polynomial curve fitting via Python's numpy library. This innovative dynamic thresholding, combining supervised learning, enhances object detection and segmentation in machine vision systems, aiding tasks like foreign matter removal in tea, grain quality monitoring, etc. © 2023 IEEE.

Digital Payments are growing by leaps and bounds across the world, owing to the large scale adoption of smart phones that are replacing the traditional wallets. As a technology in its nascent stages, issues concerning security and privacy are not fully addressed, and various mechanisms are being proposed. In this paper, we propose Digital Tokens as an abstraction of the underlying fiat currency of equivalent value in order to provide the privacy and security in digital payments. We introduce an intermediate entity in the system that mediates a transaction between the payer and payee, which can be played by existing payment service providers. The strength of our approach lies in building upon the existing payment system without causing inconvenience to the payer and the payee and at the same time guaranteeing privacy, protection against potential frauds, and provides interoperability across banks, devices, and service providers. © 2017 IEEE.

The role of FPGAs in software defined Radios (SDR) and Cognitive radios (CR) are very significant. These radios have to load different waveform depending on their requirements which may use different source coding, channel coding and modulation schemes. The user has to load large bit files even for small changes in the waveforms. In SDRs and CRs the configuration time and current consumption plays significant role: for example, a virtex-7 FPGA takes 500ms to complete configuration. If the waveforms design is made Partially Reconfigurable then the configuration time and the Hardware usage can be saved. The Objective of this work is to make the Modulation and demodulation (PSK) Schemes partially reconfigurable. The paper describes the Design and Implementation of Phase Shift keying (PSK) Modulation and demodulation in FPGA using Partial Re-configuration (PR). This work involves the Design and implementation of BPSK, QPSK, 8-PSK and 16-PSK modulation and demodulation schemes in FPGA. The user can swap between different modulation and demodulation schemes during runtime by configuring a control register in FPGA. The Implementation of these PSKs shares a common hardware, which is the Static Part and there is a Dynamic part too. In the PR, the user has to load the bit stream for the Dynamic part only, and not the entire bit stream. This will be smaller in size compared to the large bit file. The modulator design consists of two DDS modules and the demodulator part consists of a four DDS modules, which forms the static part of the design. By designing the entire waveform using partial Reconfiguration, the waveform can be made as part of the Platform realized and the configuration time and power consumption can be very much reduced. © 2012 IEEE.

Speech corpora are vital resource in development and evaluation of automatic speech recognition systems, as well as for acoustic phonetic studies. Collecting a huge corpus is not an easy task. The lack of such resources is one of the reasons for the absence of good quality speech recognition systems in Indian languages. Here we have automated such process by developing web based tool for collecting broad band speech data and an IVR system with speech recognition for collecting narrow band speech data. The main features includes the full support for the typical recording, annotation and project administration workflow, easy editing of the speech content, with an advantage of a fully localizable user interface. This paper describes in detail the development of web based speech collection tool and an IVR system which will enable end-to-end building of speech corpus with minimum manual effort. © 2014 IEEE.

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is generally observed as a service layer for providing context information to Pervasive computing applications. Acquiring this vital context information using WSN demands special skill-sets from the developer and is tightly coupled with the application requirements. The developer needs to evaluate several combination of services like routing, localization, time synchronization, security protocols to fulfill the application requirements. In this paper we justify the need and propose a system architecture of an Adaptive Framework for WSN Application (AFWA) that hosts the application workflow from development to deployment. This framework provides a flexibility for opting the required services based on the application needs and abstracts the application developer from the intricacies of WSN system components. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

High-performance computing (HPC) has long been pivotal for carrying out data and compute-intensive large-scale scientific simulations, analytic workloads for advanced scientific progress and product innovations, in turn making HPC infrastructure more essential and valuable than ever. The convergence of HPC and big data technologies/machine learning (ML)/ deep learning (DL) is prescribed owing to the multifold growth of data across all HPC domains. HPC application experts are either already working or looking forward towards ML solutions to their applications, as it is proven successful in many scientific and commercial domains. Modern CPU/GPU-based HPC architectures are equipped with support for ML/DL promising the adaptability of AI capabilities in the HPC territory. Artificial intelligence (AI) enabled neuromorphic chips to add another ladder towards the convolution of AI on HPC. In this paper, we bring forth the merits of AI on HPC infrastructure for scientific applications in the shortlisted domains, viz weather and climate, astrophysics, agriculture, and bioinformatics. The paper discusses the current scenarios of wide adoption and merits of AI in the said domains. The survey lists the applications that are well received by the user communities for their performance, handling big unstructured data, improved results, etc., while solving the domain-specific problem. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The web services model is used for interoperability of Heterogeneous and distributed platforms. In this paper we present how different orchestrated and choreography based web services collide each other and exchange information. Exchanging of information takes place by means of integrating choreography Web services with push based web service architecture. In global scenario application are built with web services for their own scenario. Each services follow different set of mechanism for e.g. Web services A follows push based service and service B follows poll based services and so on. In order to exchange the information between these two web-services we introduce a layer which acts as a common platform for service synchronization. We call this layer as Heterogeneous Synchronization layer (HSL). This layer acts as a bridge between global web services and our subscribed web services. © 2014 Global IT Research Institute (GIRI).

The Up/Down converter design consists of two DDS modules and the demodulator part consists of a four DDS modules, which forms the static part of the design. By designing the entire waveform using partial Reconfiguration, the waveform can be made as part of the Platform realized. Here using Partial reconfiguration the Distributed Arithmetic (DA) architecture the power consumption is very much reduced. © 2012 IEEE.

Realization of an effective online learning environment from all aspects of educational system is being addressed with various development efforts in advanced collaborative and interactive solutions, standardization and interoperability in e-Learning applications. Virtual class rooms through high bandwidth network connectivity and their integration with Learning Management Systems are being planned in this direction. But this effort has to be taken further by allowing access to distributed resources even at individual level for improvising learn-ability of the students. In the current scenario, availability of sophisticated infrastructure and distributed resource facilities is not an issue. But having access to such an infrastructure is the major concern. If those under privileged at institute as well as individual level can be allowed to access distributed resources, effectiveness of technology enhanced learning can be improvised to great extent. In this article, we highlight the need of service oriented interoperable learning platform and propose an overlay network architecture combining grid and peer-to-peer technologies for building a collaborative education platform. © 2009 IADIS.
