In this paper, we share our experience of designing a Trapezoidal Monopole Antenna with truncated ground plane for 2.5 GHz Band. Trapezoidal monopole antenna has an omnidirectional radiation pattern. Point-to Multi-Point WiFi system requires an omnidirectional common main antenna to distribute signal to wireless devices and computers. The proposed antenna uses a relatively cheap substrate FR-4 with permittivity ɛ r = 4.4 and loss tangent tanδ = 0.02. The size of the antenna is 12×12 cm 2 . The ground plate is defected to achieve good impedance matching over the desired frequency band. A 50 Ohm microstrip transmission line acts as the feed for the proposed antenna. The antenna has a Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) less than 2 in the frequency band 2.4 GHz to 2.75 GHz. The fractional bandwidth is about 13.5% with respect to the center frequency 2.52 GHz. The design and simulation results are presented in this paper.

Wavelet theory has become an essential and significant tool for signal and image processing applied in the analysis of various real time signals. It is thus necessary to include wavelet transform and its application in multifractal analysis as a part of the engineering curriculum. In this paper, we present simple and effective way of computing Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) using Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet which serves as an user friendly mathematical tool for beginners. The motivation of this paper is to prove the computational power of excel, using which students can have better understanding of the basic concept behind the computation of Continuous Wavelet Transform. The plot of Continuous Wavelet Transform of Brownian signal computation in Excel is compared with that of the result in the Matlab Toolbox. The singularities present in the signal can be inferred from the wavelet modulus maxima plot. The visual interpretation proves that Excel tool provides computational power comparable to that of the Matlab software. This paper is an attempt to reveal the untapped immense power of the GNU Radio - an open source software, in control and monitoring systems, both real time applications and class-room demonstrations. GNU Radio has already gained wide acceptance and glory in communication and signal processing. As a novel attempt to bring the controlling capability of GNU Radio to limelight, an experiment for temperature control, out of its innumerable applications, and the possibility of a revolution by this free open source software is predicted and explained through this paper. Large Scale Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks require effective tools for monitoring and managing the network. In this paper, we discuss about the design and implementation of an application framework in order to monitor and manage a wireless sensor deployment, where the motes exchange IPv6 encapsulated information packets. The application framework is based on a three tier architecture with the nesC / TinyOS based firmware using 'blip' components forming the bottom layer, a middle layer implemented in Python and top layer which is a web interface created using Adobe Flex 4. The implemented features of the application framework include - sensor data acquisition and display, network activity detection of deployed motes, over-the-air programming for software re-visioning, as well as node localization and mapping. The application framework also extends to incorporate the software defined radio based gateway deployed using GNU Radio platform and Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) which enables the testbed to bridge to other heterogeneous systems.

The paper proposes the design of linear phase filters using the optimization techniques based on methods for sparse signal restoration. The filter response is treated as weighted sum of the phase shifted versions of the signal. The filter design problem is converted into form Ax ≈ b, where A has rows given by [1 cos(-ω) cos(-2ω) ...], corresponding to a given frequency ω. x corresponds to the filter coefficients and b = R(ω) cos φ (ω), where R stands for the magnitude and φ the phase of the desired response. The problem is formulated into an L1 term and and L2 term and solved iteratively using ISTA (Iterative Soft Thresholding Algorithm [1]) to get the filter coefficients. The visible outcome of the approach is the considerable reduction in the non-zero coefficients.
