The presence of wind farms rose significant problems in the radar community, principally for meteorological and air traffic control radar. The presence of active wind turbines can affect also radar imaging systems that monitor ground and sea areas where windmills are often present. The blade motion introduces Doppler effect on the returned echoes to the SAR platform that can introduce undesirable effects in the final image. In this paper the effect of active wind turbines in focussed SAR images is modelled and the effect for different aspect angles and rotating blade velocities are analysed through simulations.

However the presence of stationary target and noise in the scene makes the extraction of the micro-Doppler signature a difficult challenge. In this paper a micro-Doppler signature extraction method based on the Singular Value Decomposition is applied to extract the target micro-Doppler features from the received SAR signal. Micro-Doppler signatures can be a useful source of information for target classification. The exploitation of these signatures is difficult because of the presence of stationary target and noise that enters the receiver antenna beam. Of particular interest in this work is micro-Doppler signatures of helicopters rotor blades observed from systems with relatively large wavelength and illuminators of opportunity [4]. In this paper a micro-Doppler signature extraction method based on the Singular Value Decomposition is applied to extract the target micro-Doppler features from the signal received from a passive bistatic radar. The Fractional Fourier transform (FrFT), which is a generalized form of the well-known Fourier transform, has opened up the possibility of a new range of potentially promising and useful applications including radar involving the use and detection of chirp signals, pattern recognition and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imageprocessing. In this paper the Fractional Fourier transform is applied to the Range Doppler Algorithm in order to obtain a better result in terms of resolution. The proposed technique takes advantage from the property of the FrFT to resolve with high precision chirp signals. Preliminary results are encouraging and confirms that the FrFT can be useful to perform high resolution SAR processing.

Motions and micro-motions of objects in an illuminated scene introduces Doppler and micro-Doppler effects in the received echoes. Combining the advantages introduced by the bistatic SAR (BSAR) configuration and the usefulness of the micro-Doppler signature characterization will provide a powerful tool for military and civil applications such as target recognition and classification. In this paper a vibrating micro-Doppler signature for a BSAR system with fixed receiver is analyzed and compared to the signature obtained in a monostatic SAR system. The micro-Doppler effect in a Bistatic SAR system for vibrating targets is analyzed and the derived mathematical model is confirmed with simulations.

The effectiveness of frequency domain processing algorithms in bistatic SAR depends on the accuracy of approximations used for the derivation of the bistatic point target spectrum. This paper presents a modified bistatic point target spectrum based on the 2 dimensional principle of stationary phase with the accuracy improved by the use of a Chebyshev polynomial approximation. The performance of the new method is compared to the conventional Taylor series approximation approach in the approximation of the range-azimuth frequencies coupling variable. The new approach is shown to provide a more accurate approximation reducing the phase error. The accuracy improvement is shown to yield a more accurate spectrum that can be exploited in bistatic SAR focusing algorithms, improving their accuracy and efficiency.
