Simulating the dynamics of complex quantum systems is a central application of quantum devices. Here, we propose leveraging the power of measurements to simulate short-time quantum dynamics of physically prepared quantum states in classical post-processing using a truncated Taylor series approach. While limited to short simulation times, our hybrid quantum-classical method is equipped with rigorous error bounds. It is extendable to estimate low-order Taylor approximations of smooth, time-dependent functions of tractable linear combinations of measurable operators. These insights can be made use of in the context of Hamiltonian learning and device verification, short-time imaginary time evolution, or the application of intractable operations to sub-universal quantum simulators in classical post-processing. © 2024, CC BY.

As artificial intelligence (AI) advances, it is essential to continuously comprehend its limitations to optimise the integration of AI into autonomous systems that empower humans. The first objective of this study is to highlight the key capabilities of both humans and AI, focusing on the differences and identifying limitations of AI from the literature. Through discrepancy analysis, this study uses a Venn diagram to visualise the remaining limitations of AI into five key domains: (i) emotional intelligence, (ii) consciousness and awareness, (iii) creative imagination, (iv) communication, and (v) ethical decision-making. Furthermore, this study employs thematic bibliometric analysis to provide a more detailed examination of each AI limitation as the second objective. This study has identified underdeveloped and emerging research themes with potential for future development, such as emotion recognition, human-computer interaction, digital health, and situational awareness, which may require further research. Additionally, this study commends the ongoing efforts to harness AI’s computational power and algorithmic innovations to enhance AI’s overall performance and applicability.

The integration of solar and gas turbine technologies through hybridization emerges as a promising approach to enhance the sustainability of power generation systems. However, the design process for such hybrid systems is challenging, particularly in terms of optimization and decision-making strategies. In this research, a case study of redesigning of an existing 7.2MWe gas power plant by integrating a heliostat field and a central air receiver for preheating purposes has been presented. To accurately adjust the critical parameters of the hybrid solar gas power plant, a tri-objectives optimization approach was employed using two advanced optimization methods: Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm III and Multi-Objective Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm. Furthermore, the hybrid Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process and The Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution decision-making method has been employed to help select the optimal design points from various scenarios and priorities. The chosen design for the hybrid solar-gas power plant showcases an efficient heliostat field footprint, a competitive LCOE of 78USD/MWh, achieves an annual reduction in natural gas consumption by 13.8%, and mitigates CO2 emissions by 81.6gCO2/kWh (≈715tCO2/MWe,).Thus, this study presents a persuasive example of a low-carbon technological solution, offering a promising strategy for the ongoing energy transition in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. © 2025 International Solar Energy Society

Microorganisms, such as bacteria and algae, thrive in complex environments and their behavior in fluids holds significant importance for various medical and industrial applications. By conducting Lattice Boltzmann (LB) simulations, the transport and rotational properties of a generic squirmer are investigated in solutions embedded with flexible polymer chains at different Reynolds numbers. The interplay of activity and heterogeneously distributed polymers have profound influences on these properties. Remarkable enhancements of up to three orders of magnitude in the rotational motion, along with apparent decays in self-propelling velocities, are observed for squirmers with nonzero active stresses. These extraordinary phenomena stem from the squirmer-polymer mechanical and hydrodynamic interactions. Specifically, polymer wrapping occurs in front of a pusher, while numerous polymers are absorbed in the rear of a puller. Both mechanisms enhance the rotational motion and simultaneously impede translations through forces and torques arising from direct contacts or asymmetric local flows induced by polymers. The source dipole flow fields generated by a neutral swimmer rapidly advect polymers to the rear, leaving no apparent impacts on its rotational and transport properties. The influences of Reynolds number Re (Re=0.8 and 0.04) and squirmer-polymer boundary conditions (no-slip and repulsive) on the dynamics are addressed. In short, the no-slip boundary condition results in more profound effects on both rotational and translational properties at Re = 0.8. However, at Re = 0.04, the disparity between the two boundary conditions diminishes due to the heightened fluid viscous drag, which impedes direct contacts between squirmers and polymers. Our results reveal the relevance of system heterogeneity and highlight the essential role of squirmer-polymer mechanical and hydrodynamic interactions in shaping the behavior of swimmers in viscoelastic fluids. Bladder cancer (BC) remains a significant global health challenge, requiring the development of accurate predictive models for diagnosis. In this study, a new Binary Modified White Whale Optimization (B-MBWO) algorithm is proposed to address the BC problem. The proposed method utilizes circular transitivity optimization and the Probabilistic State Mutation Algorithm (PSMA) to enhance its optimization performance. The new method is called the BBWORCPS algorithm. High-dimensional and complex medical datasets pose challenges to the original optimization algorithms in addressing the BC problem, motivating the proposed modifications to the original Beluga Whale Optimization algorithm. These enhancements, including quantum-inspired mutation and circular crossing, aim to improve solution space exploration and enhance the algorithm's effectiveness in handling intricate feature spaces. Through comprehensive experiments on BC datasets, the superiority of the BBWORCPS algorithm in terms of feature selection accuracy and computational efficiency is demonstrated compared to existing optimization methods. The obtained findings suggest that BBWORCPS offers a promising approach for developing more precise and reliable predictive models for bladder cancer analysis. © 2024 The Author(s)

Semiconductor photocatalysis technology for environmental remediation faces primary challenges, such as charge-carrier recombination and interfacial charge transfer inhibition, which affect its degradation efficiency in removing organic contaminants. In this work, we successfully synthesized a unique Z-scheme KNbO3/ZnIn2S4 hollow core-shell microsphere via combined hard template, thermal treatment, and hydrothermal processes as the photocatalyst for ciprofloxacin (CIP) remediation under sunlight irradiation. Compared to the pure KNbO3 and ZnIn2S4, our optimized 15-KNbO3/ZnIn2S4 composite exhibited enhanced photodegradation performance with up to 97.8% CIP removal within 1.5 h. At the KNbO3/ZnIn2S4 heterojunction interface, the composite developed its internal electric field and enhanced its photoabsorption under visible light region, thus boosting its charge separation. Subsequently, we systematically investigated the Z-scheme charge migration process within the heterojunction with a series of experiments. Our results indicated that the hydroxyl and superoxide radicals were the dominant active species during photocatalysis. The composite also could achieve excellent stability and adaptability. We also managed to identify the CIP-degraded intermediates and deduce their possible degradation pathways. Lastly, our toxicity analysis revealed that CIP toxicity could decrease gradually during photocatalysis. In this work, we presented a unique method for preparing inexpensive and highly efficient Z-scheme hollow core-shell structure photocatalysts with excellent antibiotic remediation in water under simulated sunlight illumination. © 2023, The Authors. Social media is used to categorise products or services, but analysing vast comments is time-consuming. Researchers use sentiment analysis via natural language processing, evaluating methods and results conventionally through literature reviews and assessments. However, our approach diverges by offering a thorough analytical perspective with critical analysis, research findings, identified gaps, limitations, challenges and future prospects specific to deep learning-based sentiment analysis in recent times. Furthermore, we provide in-depth investigation into sentiment analysis, categorizing prevalent data, pre-processing methods, text representations, learning models, and applications. We conduct a thorough evaluation of recent advances in deep learning architectures, assessing their pros and cons. Additionally, we offer a meticulous analysis of deep learning methodologies, integrating insights on applied tools, strengths, weaknesses, performance results, research gaps, and a detailed feature-based examination. Furthermore, we present in a thorough discussion of the challenges, drawbacks, and factors contributing to the successful enhancement of accuracy within the realm of sentiment analysis. A critical comparative analysis of our article clearly shows that capsule-based RNN approaches give the best results with an accuracy of 98.02% which is the CNN or RNN-based models. We implemented various advanced deep-learning models across four benchmarks to identify the top performers. Additionally, we introduced the innovative CRDC (Capsule with Deep CNN and Bi structured RNN) model, which demonstrated superior performance compared to other methods. Our proposed approach achieved remarkable accuracy across different databases: IMDB (88.15%), Toxic (98.28%), CrowdFlower (92.34%), and ER (95.48%). Hence, this method holds promise for automated sentiment analysis and potential deployment. © The Author(s) 2024.

Novel hybrid reactive-extractive distillation for separation of tetrahydrofuran, ethanol, and water azeotropic system with rigorous side reactions consideration

This study builds upon our previous research work (Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 2023, 62, 27, 10,601–10,610), which investigated the impact of considering the side reactions in the hybrid reactive-extractive distillation (RED). Our prior investigation revealed a significant challenge, as the inclusion of side reactions led to staggering spikes in energy consumption and total annual cost (TAC), seemingly rendering the performance of RED impractical. In this study, we present another possible scenario for considering side reactions in RED and highlight that RED with side reactions can still be a superior alternative to conventional distillation methods, even when side reactions are considered. This work was exemplified by using the recovering tetrahydrofuran (THF) and ethanol (EtOH) from waste effluent. We explore two different cases: Case 1 involves a side-reaction-free RED configuration reproduced as the base case, while the introduction of side reactions resulted in an increase in TAC by about 79.2% and a rise in total energy consumption by about 69%. Implementing a vacuum system (Case 2) substantially reduced the TAC by about 39% and energy consumption by about 20.5%. Although Case 2 outperformed Case 1 economically, it fell short of the base case due to additional capital costs. In contrast, Case 2 exhibited a lower TAC by 58% relative to the conventional pressure swing distillation. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Real-time systems can be classified into three categories, based on the “seriousness” of deadline misses either by hard, soft, or weakly hard real-time tasks. The consequences of deadlines miss for a hard real-time task cannot be tolerated because some failure can affect the system performance whereas some deadline misses can be tolerated for soft real-time tasks. Meanwhile, in a weakly hard real-time task, the distribution of its met and missed deadlines is stated and specified precisely. Due to the complexity and significantly increased functionality in system computation, attention has been given to multiprocessor scheduling. Studies have shown that current multiprocessor scheduling of weakly hard real-time tasks used imprecise computation model based on iterative algorithms. This algorithm decomposed into two parts; mandatory and optional parts, unfortunately, the result analysis is precise only if its mandatory and optional parts are both executed. Even, the use of hierarchical scheduling algorithm, such as two-level scheduling under PFair algorithm may cause high overhead due to frequent preemptions and migrations. Furthermore, this algorithm incurs significant run-time overhead due to their quantum-based scheduling. In order to cater for the limitations and stated problems, an alternative multiprocessor scheduling approach, called global scheduling is proposed. The proposed scheduling approach aims to improve the probability of deadline satisfactions as much as possible and at the same time achieve a higher utilization of the task sets, with less task migrations. Thus, in this paper, performance measurement parameters are used as performance evaluation of the proposed scheduling approach.

In this paper, we concentrate on the investment problem of fixed deposit (FD). Our problem is to allocate the amount invested to a suitable tenure and obtain the optimal investment. There are two types of maturity that need to be considered which are short-term and long-term. Our objective is to maximize the total return of the total amount invested with a different percentage of annual return. A linear programming (LP) model is proposed to solve this investment problem using scheduling methodology. We conduct a computational experiment of a real case study for one company located in Kuala Lumpur with RM 20.6 million of investment to see the performance of the model by using the Excel Solver Parameter package. The results show that a significant improvement obtains by our model compared to the original investment practice by the company. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
