In five-axis computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining of sculptured surface parts, the application of high surface quality machining is recognized as an economically viable manufacturing technology. Compared with the traditional CNC machining, high surface quality machining can effectively improve the surface quality. To meet the demands of high surface quality machining, this paper presents a toolpath generation strategy. Based on the constant scallop height and the interference detection, the initial smallest-posture-changes tool path is firstly created. Then, the other tool paths is generated as a kind of the diagonal curve between the offset curves by the initial tool path. At last, the tool path smoothing technology is applied to the generated tool path. This path strategy can ensure higher level of quality of the surface being machined, and less tool path sharp corners. Therefore, the high surface quality tool path can maintain the needs of machining. Based on these techniques, experimental results are given to verify the proposed approach. © 2012 IEEE.

Traditional CNC (computer numerical control) system which Based on ISO 6983 [1] is separated from the CAM module, so some important information such as 3D geometry, tolerance information and surface roughness is lost that information can not be completely transferred between CNC system and CAM. In order to improve the functionality and expansibility of the existing CNC interpretation technique, a new model of NC program interpreter is proposed which is divided into three modules. Based on the control of the central management module, the modularized CNC interpreter module can call the tool path planning module directly. A prototype system which verified the validity of the proposed method was proposed and the experimental result shows that the new CNC interpreter system can improve the interpretation efficiency significantly. © 2012 IEEE.

Web services have become more and more important in these years, and BPEL4WS (BPEL) is the OASIS standard for web services composition and orchestration. It contains several distinct features, including scope-based compensation and fault handling mechanism. This paper focuses on the verification of BPEL programs, especially the verification of concurrent BPEL programs. The rely/guarantee approach is applied. Firstly, we present the operational semantics for BPEL programs. Secondly we apply the rely/guarantee method in the design of the verification rules. The rules can handle the features of BPEL programs, including compensation, fault handling and concurrency. Finally, the whole proof system is proved to be sound based on our operational semantics. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

One of the key issues that should be considered when addressing reliable evolution is to place a software system in a consistent status before and after change. This issue becomes more critical at runtime because it may lead to the failure on running mission-critical systems. In order to place the affected elements in a safe state before dynamic changes take place, the notion of tranquility has been proposed to make quiescence criterion less disruptive and easier to obtain. However, it only ensures consistency in applications with restrictive black-box design. In this paper, an architecture-based approach is proposed to preserve global consistency during runtime reconfiguration of component-based systems in distributed contexts. An initial evaluation through a prototypical implementation shows that this approach not only enables tranquility to be applicable for distributed transactions, but also significantly reduces required time to achieve a safe state and increases system availability during runtime evolution. Activity recognition focuses on inferring current user activities by leveraging sensory data available on today's sensor rich environment. Supervised learning has been applied pervasively for activity recognition. Typical activity recognition techniques process sensory data based on point-by-point approaches. In this paper, we propose a novel Cluster Based Classification for Activity Recognition Systems, CBARS. The novel approach processes activities as clusters to build a robust classification framework. CBARS integrates supervised, unsupervised and active learning and applies hybrid similarity measures technique for recognising activities. Extensive experimental results using real activity recognition dataset have evidenced that our new approach shows improved performance over other existing state-of-the-art learning methods. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

This paper proposes hybrid feature selection algorithms to build the efficient diagnostic models based on a new accuracy criterion, generalized F-score (GF) and SVM. The hybrid algorithms adopt Sequential Forward Search (SFS), and Sequential Forward Floating Search (SFFS), and Sequential Backward Floating Search (SBFS), respectively, with SVM to accomplish hybrid feature selection with the new accuracy criterion to guide the procedure. We call them as modified GFSFS, GFSFFS and GFSBFS, respectively. These hybrid methods combine the advantages of filters and wrappers to select the optimal feature subset from the original feature set to build the efficient classifiers. To get the best and statistically meaningful classifiers, we not only conduct 10-fold cross validation experiments on training subset, but also on the whole erythemato-squamous diseases datasets. Experimental results show that our proposed hybrid methods construct efficient diagnosis classifiers with high average accuracy when compared with traditional algorithms. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

A concept hierarchy created from a document collection can be used for query recommendation on Intranets by ranking terms according to the strength of their links to the query within the hierarchy. A major limitation is that this model produces the same recommendations for identical queries and rebuilding it from scratch periodically can be extremely inefficient due to the high computational costs. We propose to adapt the model by incorporating query refinements from search logs. Our intuition is that the concept hierarchy built from the collection and the search logs provide complementary conceptual views on the same search domain, and their integration should continually improve the effectiveness of recommended terms. Two adaptation approaches using query logs with and without click information are compared. We evaluate the concept hierarchy models (static and adapted versions) built from the Intranet collections of two academic institutions and compare them with a state-of-the-art log-based query recommender, the Query Flow Graph, built from the same logs. Our adaptive model significantly outperforms its static version and the query flow graph when tested over a period of time on data (documents and search logs) from two institutions' Intranets. © 2012 ACM.

Combining CCG parsing and DL for Chinese question answering

This paper presents a novel Web Question Answering(WQA) approach based on the combination of Combinatory Categorial Grammar (CCG), Description Logic (DL) ontology and Web Service (WS), in order to promote semantic-level accuracy through deep text understanding and improve the solutions for non-WH questions. Our framework transforms a question answering problem into a service planning problem for which HTN planner-SHOP2 is used. It addresses transition from natural language to semantic expression and dynamical composition of web services via planning, and execution of the web services planning. We propose to take DL based semantic modeling, i.e., translating lambda-expression encoding of question meaning into DL based semantic representations. The advantage of such approach is a seamless exploitation of existing semantic resource coded as DL ontology, which is widespread in such areas as Semantic Web and conceptual modeling. The experiments are conducted with a repository of complex Chinese questions which involves the satisfaction of some object property restrictions. The experimental results show that producing the semantic representations with the combination of CCG parsing and DL reasoning is an effective approach for question understanding at semantic level, in terms of both understanding accuracy promotion and semantic resource exploitation.

Constraint Dependency Grammar (CDG) is a well known formalism which represents the grammatical rules as constraints on dependency relations. It reduces the structural ambiguities via constraint-propagation instead of generating individual parse trees as the conventional works. In our previous work, we have successfully adopted CDG in Chinese [5]. In this paper, we tend to further explore the nature of the constraints for Chinese CDG. We propose to develop a schema of three hierarchies for the constraints, namely in-the-phrase, between-the-phrase and between-the-simple-sentence, which is based on a study of constraints in corpus with a prior knowledge. With this proposed schema, we could further diminish the ambiguities caused by the originally defined constraints which is lack of hierarchical grammar information considered, The experiments are conducted and the results support our claims.
