Re-ranking models refine item recommendation lists generated by the prior global ranking model, which have demonstrated their effectiveness in improving the recommendation quality. However, most existing re-ranking solutions only learn from implicit feedback with a shared prediction model, which regrettably ignore inter-item relationships under diverse user intentions. In this paper, we propose a novel Intention-aware Re-ranking Model with Dynamic Transformer Encoder (RAISE), aiming to perform user-specific prediction for each individual user based on her intentions. Specifically, we first propose to mine latent user intentions from text reviews with an intention discovering module (IDM). By differentiating the importance of review information with a co-attention network, the latent user intention can be explicitly modeled for each user-item pair. We then introduce a dynamic transformer encoder (DTE) to capture user-specific inter-item relationships among item candidates by seamlessly accommodating the learned latent user intentions via IDM. As such, one can not only achieve more personalized recommendations but also obtain corresponding explanations by constructing RAISE upon existing recommendation engines. Empirical study on four public datasets shows the superiority of our proposed RAISE, with up to 13.95%, 9.60%, and 13.03% relative improvements evaluated by Precision@5, MAP@5, and NDCG@5 respectively. In this article potential of Information Technology (IT) in the improvement of organizational performance and innovation is discussed. It uses both quantitative questionnaires and qualitative case investigations to determine how different IT tools enhance operational and organisational innovation solutions. The research findings show that introduced IT solutions, including ERP systems, cloud technologies, and real-time analytics, increase efficiency by improving the effectiveness of processes; by decreasing expenses; and by increasing the speed of making decisions. Furthermore, lately, better technological support from IT technologies, including the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Machine Learning (ML), serves as enablers of innovation through new product development and into new markets. However, the study reveals the following various limitations: integration problems, organizational opposition, IT security threats, security threats of personal data, and technological life cycle. To overcome these challenges, change management, strong security solution, and regular IT assessment are the key factors to consider. It further underlines the significance of IT in organisational performance and offers guidelines for future studies to detect the sustainable impact of IT implementation and the contribution of new technologies in sustaining the competitive advantage in the future.

The death rate from skin cancer has radically grown due to a lack of understanding about the indications and prevention measures. It is one of the most lethal types of cancers, and the mortality rate due to skin cancer has risen sharply. Cancer must be diagnosed as early as possible to halt its growth and prevent metastasis. Even though there are numerous varieties of skin cancer, melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma are considered the three most dangerous types of skin cancer. This research, using the CNN image-processing technology and machine learning, tries to detect and classify into the many kinds of skin cancer. Artificial intelligence (AI) based algorithms for automated skin cancer classification have consistently outperformed human professionals in several clinical studies, laying the groundwork for a future in which AI will be widely used.

Over the past six decades, the computing systems field has experienced significant transformations, profoundly impacting society with transformational developments, such as the Internet and the commodification of computing. Underpinned by technological advancements, computer systems, far from being static, have been continuously evolving and adapting to cover multifaceted societal niches. This has led to new paradigms such as cloud, fog, edge computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), which offer fresh economic and creative opportunities. Nevertheless, this rapid change poses complex research challenges, especially in maximizing potential and enhancing functionality. As such, to maintain an economical level of performance that meets ever-tighter requirements, one must understand the drivers of new model emergence and expansion, and how contemporary challenges differ from past ones. To that end, this article investigates and assesses the factors influencing the evolution of computing systems, covering established systems and architectures as well as newer developments, such as serverless computing, quantum computing, and on-device AI on edge devices. Trends emerge when one traces technological trajectory, which includes the rapid obsolescence of frameworks due to business and technical constraints, a move towards specialized systems and models, and varying approaches to centralized and decentralized control. This comprehensive review of modern computing systems looks ahead to the future of research in the field, highlighting key challenges and emerging trends, and underscoring their importance in cost-effectively driving technological progress. © 2024, CC BY.

The rise of connected and autonomous vehicles signifies an era of intelligent transportation systems, where robust and continued network connectivity is essential for critical applications and enhanced in-vehicle Consumer Electronics (CE) experiences. Slicing at the network's edge offers tailored and dedicated logical networks for diverse and low-latency vehicular demands, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and in-car infotainment. However, seamless migration of network slices as vehicles traverse coverage areas of different network operators presents formidable challenges, such as ensuring continuous connectivity and uninterrupted service for both safety-critical systems and consumer-oriented services. In this paper, we introduced dynamic network slicing for continuous connectivity in connected vehicles and onboard CE using the Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) framework in a highly dynamic and mobile environment. We implemented an xAPP within O-RAN that enables Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) agent to learn optimal policies through interaction with the network, guiding intelligent decisions on slice migration, resource allocation, and handover optimization. We conducted simulations and evaluations to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed xAPP in maintaining optimal Quality of Service (QoS), ensuring efficient RAN resource utilization, minimizing service interruptions, and prioritizing safety-critical slices, all while supporting seamless operation of CE within vehicles during mobility. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting the quality of life of over 10 million individuals worldwide. Early diagnosis is crucial for timely intervention and better patient outcomes. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are commonly used for early PD diagnosis due to their potential in monitoring disease progression. But traditional EEG-based methods lack exploration of brain regions that provide essential information about PD, and their performance falls short for real-time applications. To address these limitations, this study proposes a novel approach using a Time-Frequency Representation (TFR) based AlexNet Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model to explore EEG channel-based analysis and identify critical brain regions efficiently diagnosing PD from EEG data. The Wavelet Scattering Transform (WST) is employed to capture distinct temporal and spectral characteristics, while AlexNet CNN is utilized to detect complex spatial patterns at different scales, accurately identifying intricate EEG patterns associated with PD. The experiment results on two real-time EEG PD datasets: San Diego dataset and the Iowa dataset demonstrate that frontal and central brain regions, including AF4 and AFz electrodes, contribute significantly to providing more representative features compared to other regions for PD detection. The proposed architecture achieves an impressive accuracy of 99.84% for the San Diego dataset and 95.79% for the Iowa dataset, outperforming existing EEG-based PD detection methods. The findings of this research will assist to create an essential technology for efficient PD diagnosis, enhancing patient care and quality of life. © 2024 The Authors

$k$k-TEVS: A $ k$k-Times E-Voting Scheme on Blockchain With Supervision

The e-vote is regarded as a way to express the opinion that the voters ask for. Actually, the e-vote could be applied wildly like questionnaire, survey and feedback. Moreover, the coexistences of efficiency and security as well as transparency and privacy could be considered as building blocks in the e-vote system. The blockchain could provide a public access board to reduce the storage costs for the field consisted of the vote group manager (GM) with its vote assistants (VA). Particularly the $k$ -times anonymous authentication ( $k$ -TAA) could also be a practical approach to preserve voters’ privacy and reduce the computation costs during the vote process. However, the e-vote scheme with pure $k$ -TAA strategy could damage either the supervision of voting or the efficiency and consistency of authentication process. What’s more, the impacts of dishonest voters couldn’t be stopped until the vote end. To tackle these problems, we apply the accumulator technology to add or revoke the voters at any time and extend the framework of $k$ -TAA with the update process for the e-vote on blockchain for supervision ( $ k$ -TEVS). In our scheme, the voter updates his membership witness and proves the fact that he is still a valid member with respective VA under the latest accumulator value. What’s more, this witness update operation is not contained in the authentication process, which means that the authentication process is still constant and efficient. Moreover, our add or delete update process with signature of knowledge needs only one pairing operation. For the security, we prove that the relaxed anonymity still holds in the $ k$ -TEVS framework. Finally, We implement $ k$ -TEVS scheme, the Emura’s work [1] and the Huang’s work [2] for comparison. Then we make time cost and communication cost experiments, which present the feasibility and practicality of this scheme.

Unsupervised learning of quantum many-body scars using intrinsic dimension

Quantum many-body scarred systems contain both thermal and non-thermal scar eigenstates in their spectra. When these systems are quenched from special initial states which share high overlap with scar eigenstates, the system undergoes dynamics with atypically slow relaxation and periodic revival. This scarring phenomenon poses a potential avenue for circumventing decoherence in various quantum engineering applications. Given access to an unknown scar system, current approaches for identification of special states leading to nonthermal dynamics rely on costly measures such as entanglement entropy. In this work, we show how two dimensionality reduction techniques, multidimensional scaling and intrinsic dimension estimation, can be used to learn structural properties of dynamics in the PXP model and distinguish between thermal and scar initial states. The latter method is shown to be robust against limited sample sizes and experimental measurement errors. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
