The Influence of Ethylene Gas Concentration on LDPE/C2H4 Hybrid Explosion process and its Severity

The influence of ethylene (C2H4) gas concentration on the LDPE dust hybrid explosion in a 20-L spherical vessel, equipped with a chemical ignitor was analysed for the determination of maximum explosion overpressure, Pmax and deflagration index, KG. The LDPEC2H4 dust hybrid explosibility was evaluated based on the Pmax development, measured by the Kistler piezoelectric pressure transducer. The adiabatic flame temperature was calculated based on ideal gas law. It is speculated that the LDPE/C2H4 explosion undergoes three-phase process, starting with the ignition, followed by flame growth and flame regression. The highest Pmax (17.9 bar) and flame temperature (5200 K) was obtained at flame growth phase, recorded at C2H4 concentration of 3 vol/vol%. It was found that the Pmax and flame temperature is dependent on C2H4 concentration. The calculated KG values in a range of 14 – 60 bar.m/ms obtained in this study, suggesting that the LDPE/C2H4 dust hybrid explosion might subject to an extreme explosion characteristic.

This paper discusses non-linear model predictive control (NMPC) for preventing premature aging in a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The BESS can be used in both residential and commercial buildings in order to reduce the cost of energy consumption. Apart from maintaining the BESS's life expectancy, the NMPC is also responsible for securing the maximum possible economic profit. The implementation of the NMPC requires the modeling of the BESS, the modeling of an aging prediction mechanism for the 15-Lithium Ion batteries stack and the identification of the needs and requirements for energy management in a dynamic pricing environment where the GRID is the unique source of power to the building and to the BESS. The NMPC utilizes forecasted profiles for the energy demand and the energy prices which are retrieved from a data knowledge warehouse in order to propose an optimal discharge profile for the BESS. Furthermore, the intra-day alternations of the energy prices and the uncertainty that the day-ahead energy demand profile will match the actual demand profile, makes the necessity of the controller to update the proposed discharge profile during the day inevitable. Indicative results of the proposed method are presented in order to demonstrate the ability of the NMPC to provide an optimal solution for achieving a specific capacity loss target for the batteries stack and simultaneously ensuring high financial profit.

The success of microalgae immobilized in gel beads for lipid production heavily relies on the characteristics of the matrices employed. This study aims to determine cell density and characteristics of immobilized Chlorella vulgaris cells that contributed to the viability of the cells within beads. The new combined matrices with volumetric ratios (Matrices:Microalgae) namely, (1) mixed matrices, SACMCCA (0.3:1) (2) SACA (0.3:1) (3) SACMC (1:1) were proposed in this study and (4) SA (1:1) (sodium alginate, SA; calcium alginate, CA; sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, CMC) as a control experiment. The size of the beads, membrane thickness and chemical compound of these beads were examined. The cell density demonstrated that SACMCCA beads presented the highest value of 1.72 ± 0.5 × 109 cells/mL and lipid yield (30.43 ± 0.30 %) compared to SACA (24.29 ± 0.50 %), SACMC (13.00 ± 0.60 %) and SA (6.71 ± 0.50 %). The characterization had provided important characteristics for a successful entrapment of Chlorella vulgaris. In addition, the combination of single matrices had improved the cell density and lipid production for future applications in the biofuel industry.

Tracking performance limitations of mimo networked control systems with multiple communication constraints

In this paper, the tracking performance limitation of networked control systems (NCSs) is studied. The NCSs is considered as continuous-time linear multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems with random reference noises. The controlled plants include unstable poles and non-minimum phase (NMP) zeros. The output feedback path is affected by multiple communication constraints. We focus on some basic communication constraints, including additive white noise (AWN), quantization noise, bandwidth, as well as encoder-decoder. The system performance is evaluated with the tracking error energy, and used a two-degree of freedom (2DOF) controller. The explicit representation of the tracking performance is given in this paper. The results indicate the tracking performance limitations rely to internal characteristics of the plant (unstable poles and NMP zeros), reference noises (the reference noise power distribution (RNPD) and its directions) and the characteristics of communication constraints. The characteristics of communication constraints include communication noise power distribution (CNPD), quantization noise power distribution (QNPD), and their distribution directions, transform bandwidth allocation (TBA), transform encoder-decoder allocation (TEA), and their allocation directions, and NMP zeros and MP part of bandwidth. Moreover, the tracking performance limitations are also affected by the angles between the each transform NMP zero direction and RNPD direction, and these angles between each transform unstable poles direction and the direction of communication constraint distribution/allocation. In addition, for MIMO NCSs, bandwidth (there are not identical two channels) always can affects the direction of unstable poles, and the channel allocation of bandwidth and encode-decode may be used for a feasible method for the performance allocation of each channels. This paper is concerned with the problem of distributed state estimation for linear discrete system with packet loss.A state prediction consensus mechanism is introduced to promote the estimation *** applying matrix theory,a sufficient condition for the convergence of the estimation error system is ***,a numerical example is given to show the algorithm proposed in this paper has better consensus performance compared with a classical Kalman consensus filtering（KCF） by some simulations in real and packet-dropping cases,***,the influence of consensus coefficient and prediction consensus coefficient on the estimation error covariance are presented by simulation.

Cytokines mediate and control immune and inflammatory responses. Complex interactions exist between cytokines, inflammation and the adaptive responses in maintaining homeostasis, health, and well being. On-demand, local delivery of anti-inflammatory drug molecules to target tissues provides a means for effective drug dosing while reducing the adverse effects of systemic drug delivery. This work demonstrates a proof-of-concept theranostic approach for inflammation based on analyte-kissing induced signaling, whereby a drug (in this report, aspirin) can be released upon detection of a target level of a proinfammatory cytokine(i.e. Interferon-γ (IFN-γ)) in real time. The structure-switching aptamer based biosensor described here is capable of quantitatively and dynamically detecting IFN-γ both in vitro and in vivo with a sensitivity of 10 pg mL-1. Moreover, the released aspirin triggered by the inflammatory cytokine IFN-γ is able to inhibit inflammation in the inflammatory rat model, and the releasing of aspirin can be quantitatively controlled. Herein research provides a novel and promising strategy for in vivo detection of proinflammatory cytokines and the subsequent therapeutic delivery of anti-inflammatory molecules. This universal theranostic platform is expected to achieve great potentials on personalized medicine towards treatment of various of diseases and health conditions. © 2019, The Authors. chemical reaction rate, also known as the reaction flux involved in chemical reactors, plays a central role as the source generating the abnormal dynamics characteristics. This paper proposes a structural approach for the stabilization of such systems through the control of the reaction flux by considering the Lyapunov stability theory within a standard thermodynamic framework. More precisely, the reaction flux is structurally considered as a nonlinear function of conjugated reaction force. The thermodynamic constraint of such a relationship is that the inherent non-negative definiteness property of the irreversible entropy production due to chemical reaction has to be fulfilled. Consequently, it allows to reexpress a large class of reaction rates described by the mass-action-law and more interestingly, the operation of the reaction system at a desired set-point consists in controlling the reaction force on the basis of an affinity-related storage function. Numerical simulations for a non isothermal continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) involving one reversible reaction operated with multiple steady states illustrate the application of the theoretical developments. © 2017

Nowadays, the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) getting worse and increasing year by year due to the open burning, transportation, deforestation, use of synthetic fertilizer and industrial process. The concentration of CO2 has reached 406.99ppm since August 2018. This can cause global warming, rising sea level, climate change and etc. Therefore, an intensive research was done to control this issues on hydrogenation of CO2 reaction by using composite catalyst. A series of X/Fe-Zeolite (X=Co, Cu, Pd and Ni) were synthesized by sol-gel method that using oxalic acid and precursors of nitrate. The Fe-Zeolite act as both a support and a co-catalyst while bi-metal served as promoter for CO2 hydrogenation. Parameters that involved for synthesized the composite which are fixed weight ratio of X:Fe:Zeolite (0.1:1.25:2), the polyethylene glycol (PEG) of 2 mL and calcine temperature of 500°C. Then, the composite was evaluated on CO2 hydrogenation at temperature reaction of 130°C, pressure CO2:H2 of 1:3.5 bar, weight catalyst of 0.2g and time reaction of 6 hours in liquid 1,4-dioxane solvent. Formic acid (FA) was the major product in this research. The effectiveness of composite was studied after addition of bi-metal onto the surface area Fe-Zeolite can boosted the production of FA or not. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) determined the morphological and textural properties of the synthesized catalysts and X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) while the formation of FA from CO2 hydrogenation reaction was evaluated using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). By this way it can reduced the concentration of CO2 at atmosphere and getting value-added product from the reaction.

Min-max differential inequalities (DIs) can be used to characterize robust forward invariant tubes with convex cross-section for a large class of nonlinear control systems. The advantage of using set-propagation over other existing approaches for tube MPC is that they avoid the discretization of control policies. Instead, the conservatism of min-max DIs in tube MPC arises from the discretization of sets in the state-space, while the control law is never discretized and remains defined implicitly via the solution of a min-max optimization problem. The contribution of this paper is the development of a practical implementation of min-max DIs for tube MPC using ellipsoidal-tube enclosures. We illustrate these developments with a spring-mass-damper system. © 2017
