Limited quantum advantage for stellar interferometry via continuous-variable teleportation

We consider stellar interferometry in the continuous-variable (CV) quantum information formalism and use the quantum Fisher information (QFI) to characterize the performance of three key strategies: direct interferometry (DI), local heterodyne measurement, and a CV teleportation-based strategy. In the lossless regime, we show that a squeezing parameter of r≈2 (18 dB) is required to reach ∼95% of the QFI achievable with DI; such a squeezing level is beyond what has been achieved experimentally. In the low-loss regime, the CV teleportation strategy becomes inferior to DI, and the performance gap widens as loss increases. Curiously, in the high-loss regime, a small region of loss exists where the CV teleportation strategy slightly outperforms both DI and local heterodyne, representing a transition in the optimal strategy. We describe this advantage as limited because it occurs for a small region of loss, and the magnitude of the advantage is also small. We argue that practical difficulties further impede achieving any quantum advantage, limiting the merits of a CV teleportation-based strategy for stellar interferometry.

Combinatorial test suite generation is a critical aspect of software testing, particularly for systems with variable-strength interactions. Traditional optimization algorithms often struggle to efficiently generate minimal test suites while maintaining coverage. This research introduces the Fuzzy Adaptive Sine Cosine Algorithm (FASCA), a variant of the Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA), tailored specifically for optimizing variable-strength combinatorial test suite generation. FASCA incorporates fuzzy adaptation mechanisms to dynamically balance exploration and exploitation, addressing the limitations of standard SCA in handling diverse interaction strengths. Experimental evaluations demonstrate that FASCA significantly reduces test suite size and execution time compared to the original SCA, offering a more efficient solution for combinatorial test optimization. These results highlight FASCA's potential as a robust tool for enhancing the efficiency of software testing processes. © 2024 IEEE.

The quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) is promising for achieving quantum computational advantage with near-term quantum devices. It was numerically shown that the QAOA cost functions exhibit a phenomenon called reachability deficit (RD), where the success probability cannot reach unity until the circuit depth exceeds a certain critical value. However, an in-depth theoretical understanding of RD remains lacking. Here we focus on a variational variant of Grover search on multiple marked solutions as a prototype for analyzing the RD problem, where we further relax the criterion of reachability by tolerating a certain probability of failure. Specifically, we obtain a general analytical expression relating the critical depth of the quantum circuit to the solution density. In the dilute limit, the critical depth is consistent with the Grover bound, exhibiting a robust quadratic scaling that is insensitive to the failure probability. Moreover, we also find that the projective mixing Hamiltonian performs significantly better than the traditional mixing Hamiltonian in the QAOA, although it is less favorable in terms of physical implementation. However, by taking into account two-body interactions in the mixing Hamiltonian, the performance becomes on par with the projective mixing Hamiltonian at the cost of O(n2) additional terms. These results represent a simplified but insightful model of the QAOA, fully addressing the dependence of required circuit depth over the ground-state degeneracy.

This research explores the use of Fuzzy K-Nearest Neighbor(F-KNN)and Artificial Neural Networks(ANN)for predicting heart stroke incidents,focusing on the impact of feature selection methods,specifically Chi-Square and Best First Search(BFS).The study demonstrates that BFS significantly enhances the performance of both *** BFS preprocessing,the ANN model achieved an impressive accuracy of 97.5%,precision and recall of 97.5%,and an Receiver Operating Characteristics(ROC)area of 97.9%,outperforming the Chi-Square-based ANN,which recorded an accuracy of 91.4%.Similarly,the F-KNN model with BFS achieved an accuracy of 96.3%,precision and recall of 96.3%,and a Receiver Operating Characteristics(ROC)area of 96.2%,surpassing the performance of the Chi-Square F-KNN model,which showed an accuracy of 95%.These results highlight that BFS improves the ability to select the most relevant features,contributing to more reliable and accurate stroke *** findings underscore the importance of using advanced feature selection methods like BFS to enhance the performance of machine learning models in healthcare applications,leading to better stroke risk management and improved patient outcomes.

This research investigates the complex relationships between social media, body image, and bullying among adolescent boarding school students, with an emphasis on the Malaysian context. Utilizing science fiction as a conceptual lens, the study presents hypothetical future scenarios to investigate how technological advancements could impact these interconnected issues. The paper seeks to provide nuanced insights into the ethical and policy implications of social media use in boarding schools by drawing on key theories such as Social Comparison Theory, Social-Ecological Model and Uses and Gratifications Theory. Through comparative analysis of hypothetical scenarios, this study aims to provide educators, policymakers, and technologists with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities at this intersection. The ultimate objective is to contribute to the ongoing discourse concerning adolescent mental health and to propose actionable strategies for mitigating negative outcomes in the unique context of Malaysian boarding schools. © 2024 IEEE.

The complexity of the entire process of supply chain management (SCM) is quite cumbersome and traditional way of handling it is devoid of proper authentication and security and very often suffers from human errors in dealing with flaws in quality control process of SCM. While it may have started with shipment tracking, the outcome of using IoT on supply chains has spread to every link in the chain. For instance, manufacturers are employing Internet-enabled sensors in production to find product faults, resulting in higher-quality production runs. Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) is a defense countermeasure that exploits the exclusive, unrepeatable features of hardware components to generate distinct cryptographic keys or identifiers, typically for a semiconductor device like an Internet of Things (IoT) device. The distinctive proof of identity of IoT devices in the supply chain is employed by means of PUFs as inviolable IDs. Blockchain, the distributed, immutable ledger, on the other hand is the disruptive technology that provides higher security as compared to traditional centralized systems. The integration of PUF and blockchain proves to be quite interesting while handling the above issues of authentication. A smart contract on the blockchain is a software code that executes spontaneously as and when the conditions of the contract or agreement are satisfied. Hence after authentication process the results are fed to blockchain smart contract for the final validation. This paper presents a novel permissioned blockchain smart contract-based lightweight authentication scheme for SCM using PUF of IoT known as SPUFChain. Informal and formal security analysis (using AVISPA and BAN logic) of the proposed framework show its efficiency to resist several threat scenarios like man-in-the middle, non-repudiation, impersonation, replay attacks and many other security features as compared to other related schemes. Recently we introduced a local photon approach for modeling the quantized electromagnetic field in position space. Using this approach, we define the momentum of light in this paper as in quantum mechanics as the generator for spatial translation. Afterward, we analyze the momentum dynamics of photonic wave packets which transition from air into a denser dielectric medium. Our analysis shines new light onto the Abraham-Minkowski controversy, which highlights the intricacies involved in the characterization of the momentum of the electromagnetic field. Although our results align with Minkowski's theory and with the definition of the canonical momentum of light in quantum electrodynamics, there are also some crucial differences.

A Graph-Theoretic Framework for Free-Parafermion Solvability

We show that a quantum spin system has an exact free-parafermion solution if its frustration graph is an oriented indifference graph. Further, we show that if the frustration graph of a model can be dipath oriented via switching operations, then the model is integrable in the sense that there is a family of commuting independent set charges. Additionally, we establish an efficient algorithm for deciding whether this is possible. Our characterisation extends that given for free-fermion solvability. Bosonic Gaussian thermal states form a fundamental class of states in quantum information science. This paper explores the information geometry of these states, focusing on characterizing the distance between two nearby states and the geometry induced by a parameterization in terms of their mean vectors and Hamiltonian matrices. In particular, for the family of bosonic Gaussian thermal states, we derive expressions for their Fisher–Bures and Kubo–Mori information matrices with respect to their mean vectors and Hamiltonian matrices. An important application of our formulas consists of fundamental limits on how well one can estimate these parameters. We additionally establish formulas for the derivatives and the symmetric logarithmic derivatives of bosonic Gaussian thermal states. The former could have applications in gradient descent algorithms for quantum machine learning when using bosonic Gaussian thermal states as an ansatz, and the latter in formulating optimal strategies for single parameter estimation of bosonic Gaussian thermal states. Finally, the expressions for the aforementioned information matrices could have additional applications in natural gradient descent algorithms when using bosonic Gaussian thermal states as an ansatz.
