Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a frequent neurodevelopmental disorder in children that is commonly diagnosed subjectively. The objective detection of ADHD based on neuroimaging data has been a complex problem with low ranges of accuracy, possibly due to (among others) complex diagnostic processes, the high number of features considered and imperfect measurements in data collection. Hence, reliable neuroimaging biomarkers for detecting ADHD have been elusive. To address this problem we consider a recently proposed multi-model selection method called Sparse Wrapper AlGorithm (SWAG), which is a greedy algorithm that combines screening and wrapper approaches to create a set of low-dimensional models with good predictive power. While preserving the previous levels of accuracy, SWAG provides a measure of importance of brain regions for identifying ADHD. Our approach also provides a set of equally-performing and simple models which highlight the main feature combinations to be analyzed and the interactions between them. Taking advantage of the network of models resulting from this approach, we confirm the relevance of the frontal and temporal lobes as well as highlight how the different regions interact to detect the presence of ADHD. In particular, these results are fairly consistent across different learning mechanisms employed within the SWAG (i.e. logistic regression, linear and radial-kernel support vector machines) thereby providing population-level insights, as well as delivering feature combinations that are smaller and often perform better than those that would be used if employing their original versions directly. © 2024 The Author(s).

Technology-mediated learning (TML) and workplace learning (WPL) are major priorities for universities. TML is core to the dynamic growth and modernization of university education, and WPL is an essential strategy used by universities to prepare students for future work. In Australia, both are rapidly changing practices, providing new possibilities and challenges. Though these two areas have largely remained separate in educational literature and practice, the integration of TML and WPL can provide important opportunities to bridge university and the workplace as well as build students' digital capacities and online professional identities. This poster presents a mobile resource for students, named the "GPS for WPL", aimed at helping students, academics and workplace educators to improve professional learning experiences by making better use of mobile technology. The fields of music, health, and technology have seen significant interactions in recent years in developing music technology for health care and well-being. In an effort to strengthen the collaboration between the involved disciplines, the workshop “Music, Computing, and Health” was held to discuss best practices and state-of-the-art at the intersection of these areas with researchers from music psychology and neuroscience, music therapy, music information retrieval, music technology, medical technology (medtech), and robotics. Following the discussions at the workshop, this article provides an overview of the different methods of the involved disciplines and their potential contributions to developing music technology for health and well-being. Furthermore, the article summarizes the state of the art in music technology that can be applied in various health scenarios and provides a perspective on challenges and opportunities for developing music technology that (1) supports person-centered care and evidence-based treatments, and (2) contributes to developing standardized, large-scale research on music-based interventions in an interdisciplinary manner. The article provides a resource for those seeking to engage in interdisciplinary research using music-based computational methods to develop technology for health care, and aims to inspire future research directions by evaluating the state of the art with respect to the challenges facing each field. © The Author(s) 2021.

This paper investigates three groups of three postgraduate students who completed the same collaborative design task. Each group was given a different scaffold focused on the design process, assigned roles, or tool use. An analysis of the coded discourse using First Order Markov models showed differences between the groups’ decisions related to the scaffolds. Implications for assessment of group progress, and recommendations for the use of scaffolds for collaborative computer-supported design tasks are discussed. © ISLS

Quantification of cerebral white matter hyperintensities (WMH) of presumed vascular origin is of key importance in many neurological research studies. Currently, measurements are often still obtained from manual segmentations on brain MR images, which is a laborious procedure. Automatic WMH segmentation methods exist, but a standardized comparison of the performance of such methods is lacking. We organized a scientific challenge, in which developers could evaluate their method on a standardized multi-center/-scanner image dataset, giving an objective comparison: the WMH Segmentation Challenge (https://***/).Sixty T1+FLAIR images from three MR scanners were released with manual WMH segmentations for training. A test set of 110 images from five MR scanners was used for evaluation. Segmentation methods had to be containerized and submitted to the challenge organizers. Five evaluation metrics were used to rank the methods: (1) Dice similarity coefficient, (2) modified Hausdorff distance (95th percentile), (3) absolute log-transformed volume difference, (4) sensitivity for detecting individual lesions, and (5) F1-score for individual lesions. Additionally, methods were ranked on their inter-scanner *** participants submitted their method for evaluation. This paper provides a detailed analysis of the results. In brief, there is a cluster of four methods that rank significantly better than the other methods, with one clear winner. The inter-scanner robustness ranking shows that not all methods generalize to unseen *** challenge remains open for future submissions and provides a public platform for method evaluation. Changing collective behaviour and supporting non-pharmaceutical interventions is an important component in mitigating virus transmission during a pandemic. In a large international collaboration (Study 1, N = 49,968 across 67 countries), we investigated self-reported factors associated with public health behaviours (e.g., spatial distancing and stricter hygiene) and endorsed public policy interventions (e.g., closing bars and restaurants) during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic (April-May 2020). Respondents who reported identifying more strongly with their nation consistently reported greater engagement in public health behaviours and support for public health policies. Results were similar for representative and non-representative national samples. Study 2 (N = 42 countries) conceptually replicated the central finding using aggregate indices of national identity (obtained using the World Values Survey) and a measure of actual behaviour change during the pandemic (obtained from Google mobility reports). Higher levels of national identification prior to the pandemic predicted lower mobility during the early stage of the pandemic (r = −0.40). We discuss the potential implications of links between national identity, leadership, and public health for managing COVID-19 and future pandemics. Understanding collective behaviour is an important aspect of managing the pandemic response. Here the authors show in a large global study that participants that reported identifying more strongly with their nation reported greater engagement in public health behaviours and support for public health policies in the context of the pandemic.

Emerging Trends of Using Open Source Technology for Sustainable Teacher Training Programme in Bangladesh

Open Source Technology (OST) is now a powerful platform that has aptitudes in different extents. It provides many in-built software applications (e.g., Google Drive, One Drive, Dropbox etc.) at no cost which can be linked to different educational applications. These applications have some features along with synchronizing documents in multiple electronic devices like desktop, laptop, tabs, and mobile phones that are not even available in many of the paid software. Moreover, these technologies have pedagogical, technological and financial affordances especially for the developing countries, like Bangladesh that have budget constrains which results in the issue of sustainability. Considering these aspects, OST could be a suitable alternative for the users of educational institutions in Bangladesh that might evolve many added benefits. For example, OST does not require any additional maintenance cost like annual software updating, domain and hosting charges and so on. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to provide a detailed guideline of using this emerging technology for teacher training programme where trainers are the teachers and trainee teachers are the students. This conceptual paper shows the thorough procedures of how the users (teacher and student) can accomplish their specific tasks like producing, storing, sharing during the training programme by using OST. At the end of the training, the trainee teachers will be competent enough to use these applications to their own education settings. Thus teacher training would be a means to introduce these emerging technologies in many educational institutions within a short time. Moreover, using these technologies will not demand any cost other than the internet charge and hence the programme will be sustainable. An empirical research could be done in order to explore more potentiality in this emerging concept.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all domains of human life, including the economic and social fabric of societies. One of the central strategies for managing public health throughout the pandemic has been through persuasive messaging and collective behaviour change. To help scholars better understand the social and moral psychology behind public health behaviour, we present a dataset comprising of 51,404 individuals from 69 countries. This dataset was collected for the International Collaboration on Social & Moral Psychology of COVID-19 project (ICSMP COVID-19). This social science survey invited participants around the world to complete a series of moral and psychological measures and public health attitudes about COVID-19 during an early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic (between April and June 2020). The survey included seven broad categories of questions: COVID-19 beliefs and compliance behaviours; identity and social attitudes; ideology; health and well-being; moral beliefs and motivation; personality traits; and demographic variables. We report both raw and cleaned data, along with all survey materials, data visualisations, and psychometric evaluations of key variables.
