Developing a prototype concurrent design tool for composite topside structures

作者: Dirlik, S Hambric, S Azarm, S Marquardt, M Hellman, A Bartlett, S Castelli, V Steve Dirlik:began his career at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division in 1981 as an aerospace engineer co-op student. He completed his bachelor of science degree in aeropace and ocean engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1985 and his master of science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland in 1990. Mr. Dirlik recently completed a master of science program in applied physics at The Johns Hopins University and currently works in the Radar Cross Section and Target Physics Branch of the Signatures Directorate at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Corderoke Division. He has worked on Navy low observable programs since 1990. Stephen Hambric:is a research associate at the Applied Research Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University. He received his B. S. and M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his D. Sc. in mechnical engineering from the George Washington University. He has worked on several computer aided multidiscikplinary design and optimization projects over the years including an automated propeller design system and a structural acoustic optimization capability. Dr. Shpour Azarm:is currently working as an associate professor with the Design and Manufacturing Group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of maryland at College Park. Dr Azarm's expertise is in the areas of optimization-based designed and concurrent design and optimization of multidisciplinary systems. He was a consultant at Black & Decker Corporation (summer 1996) and worked as a Navy senior summer faculty fellow (summer 1995) and a NASA summer faculty fellow (summer 1994). He was a visiting scientist at NASA Langley Research Center for Multidisciplinary Analysis and Applied Structural Optimzatiom at the University of Siegen in Germany (spring 1992) and the Design Institute of the Technical University of Denmark (summer 1990). Kazantzakii was born in Athens Greece in 1962. He received both the Diploma and Ph.D. Degree from the Electrical Engineering Department of the National Technical University of Athens in 1986 and 1992 respectively. During the period 1992–1993 he was a member of the Staff of the Hellenic Navy Research Centre working in the area of underwater acoustics. Since 1994 he has been a researcher at the National Technical University of Athens Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Telecommunications Laboratory. His interests include data mobile and integrated services networks. Panagiotis P. Demestichas was born in Athens Greece in 1967. He received the Diploma in electrical engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) Athens in 1993. At present he is a research assistant at NTUA working towards his Ph.D. dissertation. He participated in the BRITE/EURAM-EURATN and in the RACE-TOMQAT and MONET projects. His research interests are in the areas of broadband and mobile networks queueing theory algorithms and complexity theory. He is a Member of the Technical Chamber of Greece. Miltiades E. Anagnostou was born in Athens in 1958. He received the Electrical Engineers Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 1981. During the period 1981–1987 he was a teaching assistant at NTUA. In 1987 he received his Ph.D. in the area of computer networks. In 1987–1989 he served the Greek army in the Air Force Research and Development Center. In 1989–1991 he was a Lecturer and since 1991 he has been an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Division Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the NTUA. He is currently a Research Fellow at the Centre for Satellite Research University of Surrey U.K. His research interests include multiple access protocols for VSAT networks voice/data integration in low-bit-rate networks and the use of satellites for the provision of BISDN services. Obtained a B.Sc. in Pure and Applied Physics with Electronics in 1983 and an M.Sc. in Modern Electronics in 1984 from the University of Nottingham U.K. He was a project engineer on the Corporate Data Network for the Central Electricity Generating Board U.K. and then a senior lecturer in communication systems at the University of Greenwich UK. At present he is working on his Ph.D. at the Centre for Satellite Engineering Research (CSER) University of Surrey on the performance of communication systems. Has been Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering University of Surrey since 1984. She is the author (or joint author) of more than 80 research papers. Currently she teaches courses in Telecommunication Networks and Computer Architecture. Her research interests include on-board processing for satellites protocols and performance issues. Received the BSc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Microwave Systems from the University of Leeds in 1965/1968. He was British Telecom Lecturer-Reader in Telecommunications Systems at the University of Essex from 1969–1983. In 1983 he was appointed to the Alec Harley Reeves Chair of Information Systems Engineering at the University of Surrey and in 1990 became the first Director of the post-graduate centre for Satellite Engineering Research which houses some 100 researchers.
