Electric vehicles (EV s) boast zero tailpipe emissions, directly improving air quality and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Despite the promise of EVs for sustainable transportation, their limited range is a key challenge. Regenerative braking is a promising approach for enhancing the driving range. This research proposes a study of Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Logic (IT2FL) control to improve regenerative braking efficiency in an electric trike. Employing IT2FL control for regenerative braking recovers 35.84% of energy, translating to a 91.053 km increase in driving range. The IT2FL method achieved a range of 50 km/kWh, representing a significant 41.7% improvement. Furthermore, utilizing the Nie-Tan Method reducer within the IT2FL framework could extend the range by an additional 2.3 km, resulting in a 3 % increase in energy recovery. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of IT2FL control in enhancing regenerative braking efficiency for the electric trike. © 2024 IEEE.

The importance of smart garments is increasing day by day for entertainment, sports, medical and military fields. Both hard electronics and textile based soft electronics find application in these areas. In our previous study, we focused on crew loss detection system that was applicable for team sports such as sailing. We designed a two pieces electronic system in which a master system was fixed on the boat and a slave system was implemented in the sailing garments. This study brought a new requirement;the need of a waterproof case that would protect the electronic slave system from sea water in case the sailors fall overboard. As a result of this need, in this study, we have designed and tested waterproof pockets that could serve as waterproof carriers for the slave system of sailing garments. For this purpose, studies were carried out using two different approaches. In the first approach, 15 types of pockets were developed by using three different fabric materials and 5 different seam sealing techniques. These pocket prototypes were tested by exposing them to the water for 12 h. In the second approach, an electronic circuit was developed by using a humidity sensor to test the pocket samples those were immersed to water. According to the results of the first approach, samples containing polyester base fabric, polyurethane and polyester membrane and double-sided sealing tape gave the best results. By converting the best pocket design into a garment sleeve, the humidity sensor containing test apparatus was tested and measurements were taken successfully from the system © 2022. This article presents an alternative approach to reduce the switching frequency in switching elements within power electronic converters. The aim is to address the challenges of conventional semiconductor devices in high-frequency switching, such as switch transition times and high-frequency pulse generation. With the proposed configuration, the semiconductor switch components and pulse generator operate at a lower frequency than the output frequency of the converter. Simulations to verify the approach will be conducted using PLECS software. © 2023 IEEE.

For many small and medium-sized companies in Germany, maintaining best practices on the shopfloor is essential for competitiveness. Due to the impending wave of retirements and the changing employment patterns of the younger generations, there is a risk that knowledge will be lost when employees leave. This calls for innovative solutions for the digital capture, storage and provision of knowledge. This article presents a method that uses machine learning to capture hand movements and thus generate event logs for evaluation based on process mining. Using an example from manual assembly, it is shown how this system can be used to record the actions of different employees and analyze them from an efficiency and ergonomic point of view in order to gain an insight into the individual strategies, routines and tricks of the employees during assembly and make them usable for everyone.

FASR-Net: Unsupervised Shadow Removal Leveraging Inherent Frequency Priors

Shadow removal is challenging due to the complex interaction of geometry, lighting, and environmental factors. Existing unsupervised methods often overlook shadow-specific priors, leading to incomplete shadow recovery. To address this issue, we propose a novel unsupervised Frequency Aware Shadow Removal Network (FASR-Net), which leverages the inherent frequency characteristics of shadow regions. Specifically, the proposed Wavelet Attention Downsampling Module (WADM) integrates wavelet-based image decomposition and deformable attention, effectively breaking down the image into frequency components to enhance shadow details within specific frequency bands. We also introduce several new loss functions for precise shadow-free image reproduction: a frequency loss to capture image component details, a brightness-chromaticity loss that references the chromaticity of shadow-free regions, and an alignment loss to ensure smooth transitions between shadowed and shadow-free regions. Experimental results on the AISTD and SRD datasets demonstrate that our method achieves superior shadow removal performance. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The main focus of this research is on improving the performance of dynamic systems with actuator non-linearities and time-varying disturbances. To this end, using the concept of finite-time stability, a novel observer is presented to estimate the disturbances in systems with input non-linearities. Then, introducing an innovative sliding manifold, a robust observer-based technique is derived to guarantee the finite-time stability of the sliding surface. Hence, the closed-loop system would be stable in the presence of hard non-linearities and time-varying disturbances. The performance of the proposed approach was assessed in using a simulation study of two numerical examples. The obtained results and comparison with a conventional method confirmed the benefits of the suggested approach. © 2022 The Authors. Research on twistor-based complex collisions of a quadrotor UAV suspension system

The disturbances of wind fields and collisions introduce additional uncertain disturbance during the collision deicing process of UAV suspended load. The UAV suspension system’s position and attitude models are established separately based on traditional method such as Newton–Euler. Consequently, the introduction of multiple algebraic methods, including position vector and Euler angle, increases computational complexity. Accordingly, the system response delays and the control accuracy cannot meet the mission requirements. Therefore, it is essential to find a method for integrated position–attitude modeling and control. To address this problem, this paper proposes a collision dynamic model for a quadrotor UAV suspension system based on twistor. This twistor provides a unified description of translational and rotational motion. In addition, the introduction of twistor avoids the normalization constraints and parameter redundancy in dual quaternion. The stability of the UAV cannot be ensured due to the uncertain disturbances introduced by the wind field and collisions. As a result, there is a need to design a strong disturbance rejection controller. To mitigate impacts of these disturbances, a fuzzy sliding mode controller within the twistor framework is presented. Lyapunov theory and LaSalle invariance principles are used to prove the stability of the system. The simulation demonstrates that the fuzzy sliding mode controller within the twistor framework effectively ensures the stability and adaptability of the quadrotor UAV suspended system under the disturbances of wind fields and collisions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

A Fractional-Order Nonlinear Backstepping controller Design for Current-controlled Maglev System

The magnetic levitation system (Maglev) is a nonlinear system by which an object is suspended with no support other than magnetic fields. The main control perspective of the Maglev system is to levitate a steel ball in air by the electromagnetic force. However, the Maglev system has highly nonlinear dynamics which is inconvenient in the sense of sensitive control/regulation of its nonlinear dynamics. In this paper, the nonlinear backstepping controller based on the fractional-order derivative is proposed for the control of the nonlinear current-controlled Maglev system. After, the system dynamics and fractional-order backstepping controller design are given, the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is proved by employing the Lyapunov theory. Some computer-based numerical experiments are carried out to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller for the control of Maglev system. © 2025, CC BY.

In frequency domain, wavelet coefficient is one of the characteristics of ERG signal which is hidden in frequency-domain. This paper aims to develop a tool for analyzing the constituent frequencies and time of interest in the dog's ERG signal using wavelet analysis. We design a lowpass filter to reduce noise during the measurement of ERG response. ERG dataset was obtained for the light intensity series and their constituent frequencies are analyzed by using the continuous wavelet transform (CWT). The results show that, in time-domain, as light intensity increases, both amplitudes of a-wave and b-wave are higher. We can visualize the noise interference in the ERG signals. Then a lowpass filter is designed to attenuate the noise effect. The filtered signals have lower a-, and b-waves' amplitude which affect the important characteristics in time domain. Therefore, we choose to filter signal from 26ms onward, the main components are recovered, and the filtered signal becomes smoother. In frequency-domain, the peak magnitude of wavelet coefficients is increased as light intensity increases. © 2023 IEEE.
