As the size of datasets and neural network models increases, automatic parallelization methods for models have become a research hotspot in recent years. The existing auto-parallel methods based on machine learning or graph algorithms still have issues with search efficiency and applicability. This paper proposes an automatic parallel method based on a dual-population genetic algorithm, TGA, which transforms model partitioning and placement into an integer linear programming problem and constructs a cost model to evaluate the solution. The solution space is built using the neural network's dataflow graph and device cluster's topology, and the dual-population genetic algorithm is used to search for the optimal model parallel strategy. Experiments with various models show that the proposed method can improve single-step execution time by up to 42% compared to the Baechi method and up to 37.7% compared to the Hierarchical method. © 2023 IEEE.

We present a condition for 1/2 degree of freedom for each user in constant K-user single-antenna interference channels. This condition is sufficient for all and necessary for almost all channel matrices. Moreover, it applies to all channel topologies, i.e., to fully-connected channels as well as channels that have individual links absent, reflected by corresponding zeros in the channel matrix. Moreover, it captures the essence of interference alignment by virtue of being expressed in terms of a generic injectivity condition that guarantees separability of signal and interference. Finally, we provide codebook constructions achieving 1/2 degree of freedom for each user for all channel matrices satisfying the condition we identified. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

The rapid development of the Internet has pushed society into the era of information explosion, and people are faced with more and more information screening and choices. A recommendation system is an effective way to process massive amounts of information, and it is also a tool that can make recommendations based on user behavior. Traditional collaborative filtering algorithms generally use the cosine similarity formula to calculate the similarity between users or items to make recommendations. Due to the popularity of the Internet, more and more popular items have appeared. The appearance of popular items not only affects the recommendation results, but also fails to reflect the real needs of users. This paper proposes an improved formula for cosine similarity with a penalty factor, which can restrain the influence of popular items on the recommendation result. Finally, the Movie Lens data set is used to verify that the recommended performance indicators have been improved to a certain extent. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Accurate classification of battery quality and prediction of battery lifetime before leaving the factory would bring economic and safety ***,we propose a data-driven approach with machine learning to classify the battery quality and predict the battery lifetime before usage only using formation *** extract three classes of features from the raw formation data,considering the statistical aspects,differential analysis,and electro-chemical *** correlation between over 100 extracted features and the battery lifetime is analysed based on the ageing *** learning models are developed to classify battery quality and predict battery lifetime by features with a high correlation with battery *** validation results show that the quality classification model achieved accuracies of 89.74% and 89.47% for the batteries aged at 25℃ and 45℃,***,the lifetime prediction model is able to predict the battery end-of-life with mean per-centage errors of 6.50% and 5.45%for the batteries aged at 25℃ and 45℃,*** work highlights the potential of battery formation data from production lines in quality classification and lifetime prediction.

Quality Diversity through Human Feedback: Towards Open-Ended Diversity-Driven Optimization

Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) has shown potential in qualitative tasks where easily defined performance measures are lacking. However, there are drawbacks when RLHF is commonly used to optimize for average human preferences, especially in generative tasks that demand diverse model responses. Meanwhile, Quality Diversity (QD) algorithms excel at identifying diverse and high-quality solutions but often rely on manually crafted diversity metrics. This paper introduces Quality Diversity through Human Feedback (QDHF), a novel approach that progressively infers diversity metrics from human judgments of similarity among solutions, thereby enhancing the applicability and effectiveness of QD algorithms in complex and open-ended domains. Empirical studies show that QDHF significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods in automatic diversity discovery and matches the efficacy of QD with manually crafted diversity metrics on standard benchmarks in robotics and reinforcement learning. Notably, in open-ended generative tasks, QDHF substantially enhances the diversity of text-to-image generation from a diffusion model and is more favorably received in user studies. We conclude by analyzing QDHF’s scalability, robustness, and quality of derived diversity metrics, emphasizing its strength in open-ended optimization tasks. This paper presents a study of the energy consumption of a full electric bus charged at a fast-charging station with pantographs in the city of Maribor. The results of simulated and real tests on the PT line 6 are compared and analysed. The partly electrified PT line 6 provides insights on comparison between simulated energy consumption and re-al-life energy consumption, charging time and reliability of charging. The results reveal that the simulation considered several important factors like real life turnaround time, driving cycle, regenerative braking, charging time, peak hour charging time, heating/cooling systems, full passenger load as important and critical to identify the appropriate concept for charging. Technical and operational errors were identified in real world, due to connectivity failures or driver errors in positioning the vehicle, which were not considered in the simulation. The real-world data and procedure for selection of the most appropriate charging technology represent a good basis for full electrified Public Transport in Maribor. © 2023 The Author(s). In autonomous driving, accurately interpreting the movements of other road users and leveraging this knowledge to forecast future trajectories is crucial. This is typically achieved through the integration of map data and tracked trajectories of various agents. Numerous methodologies combine this information into a singular embedding for each agent, which is then utilized to predict future behavior. However, these approaches have a notable drawback in that they may lose exact location information during the encoding process. The encoding still includes general map information. However, the generation of valid and consistent trajectories is not guaranteed. This can cause the predicted trajectories to stray from the actual lanes. This paper introduces a new refinement module designed to project the predicted trajectories back onto the actual map, rectifying these discrepancies and leading towards more consistent predictions. This versatile module can be readily incorporated into a wide range of architectures. Additionally, we propose a novel scene encoder that handles all relations between agents and their environment in a single unified heterogeneous graph attention network. By analyzing the attention values on the different edges in this graph, we can gain unique insights into the neural network’s inner workings leading towards a more explainable prediction.

This work presents the development and implementation of an interdisciplinary and intermedial science outreach programme designed for school students. The programme integrates biological systems and technological advancements to provide students with hands-on laboratory experiences and immersive media, including virtual reality videos and augmented reality posters. Through a co-creation process involving scientists and educators, the programme aims to enhance students understanding of bio-inspired information pathways and neurogenesis. Preliminary evaluations indicate high engagement and educational value, suggesting that such interdisciplinary approaches can significantly enrich science education.

Benefiting from high flexibility and probability of line-of-sight, deploying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV s) as aerial access points has emerged as a promising solution for ensuring reliable wireless connectivity in crowded events. This paper introduces a UAV scheduling process adaptive to dynamic mobile network demand, including three phases. In the sensing phase, the user distribution is sensed, and user number thresholds are set to determine whether UAV assistance is needed. The planning phase presents an enhanced mean shift algorithm to find suitable locations to deploy UAVs with a dynamic bandwidth derived from the user distribution, the UAV's maximum capacity, and the UAV's maximum throughput. The deploying phase dispatches and recalls UAV s based on planning results. Comprehensive simulation experiments are conducted on OMNeT ++ using real-world data. Results show that the proposed process shows great adaptivity, with an efficiency increase of 18.7% and a fairness increase of 28.9 % compared to the existing related works on average.
