The energy of wireless sensor networks is limited and the energy consumption of wireless communication takes most of the total energy consumption of sensor nodes. This paper proposes an energy-efficient data aggregation transfer protocol based on clustering and data prediction called DACP. In the initialization phase sensor network nodes send messages to sink node, then sink node divides entire networks into several clusters and elects cluster head nodes for each cluster. In the prediction phase sensor member nodes receive predicted data and compare it with sensed data to decide whether send it or not. In the data aggregation phase cluster head nodes aggregate sensed data received from cluster member nodes and decide to send it to sink node or not according to receiving predicted data. It is effective to reduce data transmission and improve the efficiency of data aggregation by data prediction. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protocol can significantly provide longer lifetime and prolong the life of every node to survive.

In wireless sensor networks, prolonging the life time is an important research topic. Based on the study of LEACH protocol and EEUC protocol, a novel zone-divided and energy-balanced clustering routing protocol for wireless sensor networks (ZECR) is brought up. The protocol divides the area into several zones according to the distance, and uses the unequal clustering method among these zones to solve the hot spots problem caused by multi-hop mechanism. In the cluster head election phase, only the nodes that meet the energy standard can participate in the competition;in the inter-cluster multi-hop routing phase, the cluster heads with high residual energy in high energy region will be selected as the relay node based on the advantages of zone-divided. Simulation results show that the protocol can effectively balance the energy consumption of each part of the network, solve the hot spots problem, apply to the energy heterogeneous network and prolong the network life time obviously.

We present a fully self-organizing approach for creating and maintaining a reference coordinate system for self-localization in Sensor and Actor Networks (SANETs). GPS technology has become a de facto standard for outdoor localization, however, self-localization in GPS denied scenarios is still extremely challenging. Typically, anchor nodes or global state information are used to update the nodes' location information. In contrast, we present a fully self-organizing strategy to generate a distributed reference coordinate system. In particular, we use autonomous robot systems to span and maintain this coordinate system. In particular, we investigated the capabilities of the Mass-Spring-Relaxation (MSR) algorithm, which is frequently used for fault-tolerant and robust localization. Unfortunately, this algorithm needs certain globally valid state information. We extended the MSR algorithm in two ways: First, we made the algorithm independent of a priori global knowledge, and, secondly, we provide extensions that make the algorithm more reliable and robust, and to reduce the number of necessary information exchanges between the nodes. As can be seen from the simulation results, our advanced MSR is very accurate and clearly outperforms the classical MSR for increasing network sizes. We also validated the simulations in an experimental setting. The obtained results confirm the very high localization accuracy.
