Multimedia content dissemination is a complex problem because of the multitude of policy types that providers may wish to associate with their content. There have been quite a few efforts at defining security policies and models which can cater to these types of requirements. Usage control models are the new breed of access control models that allow description of comprehensive policies for usage of protected content. In this paradigm, decisions regarding access to objects is not limited to request time only. It is coupled with the usage of the protected objects and becomes a continuous process carried out in parallel to the usage. The realization of usage control has been a long standing research problem to overcome the issue of loss of control in secure document dissemination. With the emergence of cloud computing, documents are stored in the cloud, the document viewers and editors themselves reside in the cloud and are accessed from thin clients such as browsers. We note that such scenarios provide an ideal opportunity for the realization of usage control for securing the usage of documents based on the stakeholders' policies. In this paper, we argue for a better realization of different features of the UCON model in the cloud based applications. We propose a robust architecture to provide fine-grained control over usage of protected objects through the use of emerging cloud computing paradigm. We present the design principles for this realization and discuss our prototype implementation of the proposed architecture.

This paper analyzes the problem of the design of envelopes for high-rise isolated residential buildings. The phenomenon of envelope creation appears in the early stages of the architectural design. Variables that influence the final shape and size of such envelopes are then identified. This paper presents the state-of-the-art tools for the current solutions at the commercial and academic/scientific level. The variables identified in this research are the client's needs, the urban code and architectural practice, and their specific components for the final creation of a new decision support system tool based on the building information modeling (BIM) software platform, to facilitate the work in the project development and drawing production stages. This tool generates several options for building envelopes according to the parameters required by the city Zoning Planning Commission. These options then lead to deliver reliable data and a geometry that can be analyzed in a timely fashion by the engineers, builders, architects, government, and clients in the early stages of the building's design. The results show that use of specific information and communication technologies (ICT) tools in the early stages of a building design helps reduce the working time, increases confidence in the generated solution, and contributes to the exploration of alternatives in a short period of time.

Apparent Spectral properties (AOPs) of phytoplankton pigment concentration were analyzed in Shitoukoumen Reservoir, the Changchun city drinking water resource, in order to investigate the feasibility of the using remote sensing to monitor chlorophyll a (Chl-a) concentration in Northeast China. 225 samples were collected for laboratory Chl-a analysis during 12 field campaigns from 2006 to 2008. Correlation analysis between Chl-a and spectra and derivative spectral reflectance revealed that derivative at spectral band between 420 to 700 nm is more sensitive to Chl-a concentration, however correlation coefficient on reflectance is relatively low as Chl-a is not the dominating optical active component in the reservoir. A combination of Genetic Algorithms and Partial Least Square (GA-PLS) model was established for Chl-a estimation in this study. A preprocessing procedure was conducted to selected the comparatively high correlated spectral variable by application of correlation analysis between Chl-a with each spectral band, reflectance derivative ranging from 350 to 1000 nm and all possible band ratios (101, 250 combinations all together). 100 sensitive spectral variables were selected for GA-PLS modeling with above mentioned preprocessing procedure. A number of 2/3 samples were selected to train the GA-PLS model, and the rest was utilized to validate the performance of the model. It is found that the relationship between the most sensitive reflectance band, reflectance derivative and band ratio and Chl-a concentration agreed well with linear function with R-Square range from 0.45 to 0.78. However, the GA-PLS model for Chl-a estimation performs much better, with model validation R-Square of 0.81. As our results were derived from large number of ground truth samples, representing a spatio-temporal variation of pigment conditions, so the GA-PLS model has great potential for Chl-a estimation for inland water bodies with similar background.

In web service computing, a business transaction is integrated by web services provided by multiple enterprises, therefore the transaction is deployed in a loose-coupled, heterogeneous and autonomous environment. When failures or exceptions occur, the traditional rolling back technique is inappropriate for recovery since locking is inapplicable. Current solutions, including forward recovery and backward recovery, didn't take into consideration enough business logic of the business transaction and thus were lack of flexibility and efficiency. In this paper, we introduce the conception-constraint rule, which express the business logic of a business transaction. A better control of recovery is achieved based on the constraint rules. A detailed description of our algorithms for recovery is given and a travel agency case study is illustrated. In addition, we compare our recovery mechanism with some existing solutions and the simulation results show that our method has both better success rate and efficiency.

The network model bases upon the energy hub concept, which was developed by the Vision of Future Energy Networks” (VoFEN) research group at ETH Zurich in the last years. Keynote of the concept is a combined optimization of different energy carrier. Synergetic effects are expected to give unusual optimization results, when allowing any possible energy conversion inside a specific area that constitute the hub. Costs for the energy consumption or production are generally used as the optimization criteria. Any technologies for conversion and storage are integrated in a coupling matrix, which links input and output. This paper deals with an extension to the optimization part by merging the network flows with the pricing of grid costs. The impact of network flow pricing is at first derived from theory, then translated into the energy hub concept and finally illustrated in an example.

This paper presents a Park transform-based method for preprocessing stator current data from a motor and transforming it into a form that is useful for fault detection and diagnostics. The proposed method generates power signatures that are invariant to the initial electrical angle of the voltage when the motor is connected to the utility, and can also adapt to variations in the electrical angle of the supply voltage over time. A modified nonlinear least squares algorithm identifies and tracks the parameters of the supply voltage over time, ensuring that the supply voltage and the argument of the Park transformation remain synchronized. Experimental results are presented that illustrate the method's effectiveness for identifying changes in the mechanical load on a 3/4 HP refrigeration compressor.

A gyroscope-free inertial measurement unit (GF IMU) utilizes only accelerometers to determine the relative movement of a body. We consider the problem of merging the individual accelerometer measurements using an Unscented Kalman filter (UKF) to estimate the body motion. Conventionally, this is realized by a parametric observation model, which gives the expected sensor measurements. In this paper, we replace this model by a Gaussian process (GP). GPs are a state-of-the art non-parametric Bayesian regression framework. Thereby, the measurements are determined based on a sampled set of training data. No physical principles of the system must be described. In addition, we apply sparse GPs using pseudo-inputs to reduce computation time, while the estimation accuracy remains nearly constant. As a result, the filter cycle time decreases by a factor of 1.92. We present accuracy measurements obtained on a 3D rotation table and compare the results to estimates generated with a parametric model.
