This paper presents a Park transform-based method for preprocessing stator current data from a motor and transforming it into a form that is useful for fault detection and diagnostics. The proposed method generates power signatures that are invariant to the initial electrical angle of the voltage when the motor is connected to the utility, and can also adapt to variations in the electrical angle of the supply voltage over time. A modified nonlinear least squares algorithm identifies and tracks the parameters of the supply voltage over time, ensuring that the supply voltage and the argument of the Park transformation remain synchronized. Experimental results are presented that illustrate the method's effectiveness for identifying changes in the mechanical load on a 3/4 HP refrigeration compressor.

The network model bases upon the energy hub concept, which was developed by the Vision of Future Energy Networks” (VoFEN) research group at ETH Zurich in the last years. Keynote of the concept is a combined optimization of different energy carrier. Synergetic effects are expected to give unusual optimization results, when allowing any possible energy conversion inside a specific area that constitute the hub. Costs for the energy consumption or production are generally used as the optimization criteria. Any technologies for conversion and storage are integrated in a coupling matrix, which links input and output. This paper deals with an extension to the optimization part by merging the network flows with the pricing of grid costs. The impact of network flow pricing is at first derived from theory, then translated into the energy hub concept and finally illustrated in an example.

A gyroscope-free inertial measurement unit (GF IMU) utilizes only accelerometers to determine the relative movement of a body. We consider the problem of merging the individual accelerometer measurements using an Unscented Kalman filter (UKF) to estimate the body motion. Conventionally, this is realized by a parametric observation model, which gives the expected sensor measurements. In this paper, we replace this model by a Gaussian process (GP). GPs are a state-of-the art non-parametric Bayesian regression framework. Thereby, the measurements are determined based on a sampled set of training data. No physical principles of the system must be described. In addition, we apply sparse GPs using pseudo-inputs to reduce computation time, while the estimation accuracy remains nearly constant. As a result, the filter cycle time decreases by a factor of 1.92. We present accuracy measurements obtained on a 3D rotation table and compare the results to estimates generated with a parametric model.

This paper presents a middleware and an application scenario for communication in a pervasive community which is characterized by the use of different network and service technologies. To achieve the required cross-technology communication, we organize devices and applications as members of cells with homogeneous network interfaces, and we combine these cells to a heterogeneous ensemble by a General Purpose Access Point (GPAP). The GPAP enables and organizes a flexible service-based communication between members of different cells. This paper focuses an interconnection between Bluetooth and IP-based networks using service proxying between Bluetooth SDP (Service Discovery Protocol) and Web Services. However, it can be used as a base for service proxying with a variety of other network and SOA technologies. Furthermore, we combine several ensembles by our service-oriented middleware to build a community and enable the communication between devices of different ensembles. Moreover, we look forward to explore and allow seamless roaming for mobile devices as well as their provided services inside the community. For evaluation of our middleware we use cross-technology messaging as an application scenario for a general cross-technology video and audio communication.

The project of E-Simulator is under way at Hyogo Earthquake Engineering Research Center (E-Defense) of National Research institute of Earth science and Disaster Prevention (NIED), Japan, which facilitates the world's largest shaking table. The E-Simulator uses the parallel finite element (FE) analysis software package called ADVENTYRECluster (ADVC) as a platform. In this study, we report the results of high-precision FE-analysis for simulation of collapse behavior of the 4-story steel building frame that is the specimen of the full-scale total collapse shaking-table test conducted in September 2007 at E-Defense. It is shown that elastoplastic dynamic responses can be estimated with good accuracy using a high-precision FE-analysis without resort to macro models such as plastic hinge and composite beam effect.

The generating rule method is presented for incompatible and incomplete information of test data based on Bayesian theory. Firstly, the rule's conditional probability is calculated when the certainty (reliability) of the test data is the prior probability and the samples (supportability) is posterior probability. Then, Those rules whose conditional probability is bigger than a given threshold value should be preserved. Lastly, the rule is generated by logic conjunction and disjunction of all the preserved rules. The example and application analysis indicate that the algorithm is clear, the calculating process is simple and it can be easily applied to computer programs, moreover, this method can avoid the knowledge distortion and the rule losing to the maximum for generating rule.

This paper addresses the problem of ensuring the integrity and the authenticity of H.264/AVC video. It is achieved by authenticating each Group Of pictures (GOP) within the video separately. The proposed technique uses content based digital signature generated from robust features extracted from transform domain as fragile watermark and then embeds it in motion vectors belonging to the GOPs with the best partition mode in tree-structured motion compensation.
