Instruction queues consume a significant amount of power in a high-performance processor. The wakeup logic delay is also a critical timing parameter. This paper compares a commonly used CAM-based instruction queue organization with a new pointer-based design for delay and energy efficiency. A design and pre-layout of all critical structures in 70nm technology is performed for both organizations. The pointer-based design is shown to use 10 to 15 times less power than the CAM-based design, depending on queue size, for a 4-wide issue, 5GHz processor. The results also demonstrate the importance of evaluating all steps of instruction queue access: allocation, issue and wakeup rather than wakeup alone, especially for power consumption.

Whilst the performance gap between main memory and secondary storage of computer systems increased rapidly during the last years, especially the analysis of secondary storage performance becomes very important. For that purpose this paper introduces a plugin-based framework providing an integrated execution environment for new benchmarks and offering analysis tools for the complex result output of particularly I/O measurements. As an example of this environment we describe the PRIOmark, an I/O benchmark that characterizes file system performance of single and distributed systems by means of two different file system interfaces. Additionally, the I/O performance of three file systems, two file system interfaces as well as different I/O workloads are compared to show the flexibility of the presented PRIOmark.

Currently, there is no distributed data management system for computational grids that provides transparent data distribution and replication. This paper introduces three methods to enhance an algorithm for data distribution and replication from the field of peer-to-peer computing named "content-addressable network". They enable this algorithm to being a basis for a fully transparent distributed data management system for grids. The first enhancement provides multiple dataset queries which allow the user to search for all datasets matching a given combination of key and mask. Another optimization reduces existing query latencies by introducing a system of specifically selected short cuts. The third enhancement enables the algorithm to keep the amount of data stored on a certain node more equally balanced and as a result optimizes the algorithms stability while working with high data fill-levels

The theory of the concept lattice is an efficient tool for knowledge representation and knowledge discovery, and is applied to many fields successfully. One focus of knowledge discovery is knowledge reduction. This paper proposes the theory of attribute reduction in the concept lattice, which extends the theory of the concept lattice. In this paper, the judgment theorems of consistent sets are examined, and the discernibility matrix of a formal context is introduced, by which we present an approach to attribute reduction in the concept lattice. The characteristics of three types of attributes are analyzed.

This paper demonstrates a novel car-following model based on driver or passengers' comfort. As we know, rapid deceleration during emergency brake will make passengers feel uncomfortable, according to the relationship between brake acceleration and people's comfortable feeling, the comfortable model of car following is being setup. The model calculates the following car's acceleration by measuring the distance between the following car and the preceding car, and the velocity of the following car, to keep drive and passengers feel comfortable by controlling the car's acceleration. The friction coefficient of the car and road surface are also considered, the experiments show that the model fits the real cases very well.

This article consists of a collection of slides from the author's conference presentation. The following slides give a brief overview of the scientific environment of the application for the MIMD Processor. One goal of the experiments under construction is the generation of a quark/gluon plasma, which can only be created by colliding nuclei at very high kinetic energies. The slides show a schematic overview of an appropriate experiment, capable of detecting the reaction products of such collisions. The photos show the experiment at its current state. It is scheduled to take first experimental data in Q2 2007.
