The ExaNeSt Prototype: Evaluation of Efficient HPC Communication Hardware in an ARM-based Multi-FPGA Rack

We present and evaluate the ExaNeSt Prototype, which compactly packages 128 Xilinx ZU9EG MPSoCs, 2 TBytes of DRAM, and 8 TBytes of SSD into a liquid-cooled rack, using a custom interconnection hardware based on 10 Gbps links. We developed this testbed in 2016-2019 in order to leverage the flexibility of FPGAs for experimenting with efficient hardware support for HPC communication among tens of thousands of processors and accelerators in the quest towards Exascale systems and beyond. In the years since then, we carefully studied this system, and we present our key design choices and insights resulting from our measurement and *** developed this testbed, from architecture to the PCBs and the runtime software, within the ExaNeSt project. It is fully operational in configurations with up to 8x4x4 MPSoC nodes. It achieves high density through tight board design, while also leveraging state-of-the-art liquid cooling technology. In this paper, we present a thorough architectural analysis, along with important aspects of our infrastructure development. Our custom interconnect includes a low-cost low-latency network interface, offering user-level, zero-copy RDMA, which we coupled with the ARMv8 processors in the MPSoCs. We further developed the corresponding runtimes that allow us to test real MPI applications on the large-scale *** evaluated our platform through MPI microbenchmarks, mini, and full MPI applications. Single hop, one way latency is \(1.3\) \(\mu\)s; approximately \(0.47\) \(\mu\)s out of these are attributed to network interface and the user-space library that exposes its functionality to the runtime. Latency over longer paths increases as expected, reaching \(2.55\) \(\mu\)s for a five-hop path. Bandwidth tests show that, for single hop, link utilization reaches \(82\%\) of the theoretical capacity. Microbenchmarks based on MPI collectives reveal that broadcast latency scales as expected when the number of participating ranks increases. We also

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short noncoding RNAs that can regulate all steps of gene expression (induction, transcription, and translation). Several virus families, primarily double-stranded DNA viruses, encode small RNAs (sRNAs), including miRNAs. These virus-derived miRNAs (v-miRNAs) help the virus evade the host's innate and adaptive immune system and maintain an environment of chronic latent infection. In this review, the functions of the sRNA-mediated virus–host interactions are highlighted, delineating their implication in chronic stress, inflammation, immunopathology, and disease. We provide insights into the latest viral RNA–based research—in silico approaches for functional characterization of v-miRNAs and other RNA types. The latest research can assist toward the identification of therapeutic targets to combat viral infections.

The advances in wireless communication technologies and the proliferation of mobile devices have enabled the realization of intelligent environments for people to c- municate with each other, interact with information-processing devices, and receive a wide range of mobile wireless services through various types of networks and systems everywhere, anytime. A key enabler of this pervasive and ubiquitous connectivity environments is the advancement of software technology in various communication sectors, ranging from communication middleware and operating systems to networking protocols and applications. The international conference series on Mobile Wireless Middleware, Operating Systems, and Applications (MOBILWARE) is dedicated to address emerging topics and challenges in various mobile wireless software-related areas. The scope of the conference includes the design, implementation, deployment, and evaluation of middleware, operating systems, and applications for computing and communications in mobile wireless systems. MOBILWARE 2010 was the third edition of this conference, which was made p- sible thanks to the sponsorship of ICST and Create-Net and most importantly the hard work of the TPC and reviewers. Similar to the last successful editions, we had 35 submissions from 23 different countries this year, reflecting the international interest for the conference topics. After a thorough review process, we finalized an excellent technical program including 18 regular papers and 4 short papers.

After two decades, data processing has finally, and probably forever, found its niche among civil engineering and construction (CEC) professionnals, through word processors, digitizing tables, management software, and increasingly via drawing software and computer-aided design (CAD), recently, robots have even started invading work sites. What are the main trends of CAD and robotics in the field of architecture and civil enginee ring? What type of R&D effort do university and industrial laboratories undertake to devise the professional software that will be on the market in the next three to five years? These are the issues which will be addressed during this symposium. To this effect, we have planned concurrently an equipment and software show, as well as a twofold conference. Robotic is just starting in the field of civil engineering and construction. A pioneer, the Civil Engineering Departement of Carnegie-Mellon University, in the United States, organized the first two international symposia, in 1984 and 1985 in Pittsburgh. This is the third meeting on the subject (this year, however, we have also included CAD). It constitutes the first large international symposium where CAD experts, specialists in architecture and CEC robotics will meet. From this standpoint, it should be an ideal forum for exchanging views and expe riences on a wide range of topics, and we hope it will give rise to novel applications and new syntheses. This symposium is intented for scientists, teachers, students and also for manufacturers and all CEC professionals.

This volume contains a selection of revised papers that were presented at the Software Aspects of Robotic Systems, SARS 2011 Workshop and the Machine Learning for System Construction, MLSC 2011 Workshop, held during October 17-18 in Vienna, Austria, under the auspices of the International Symposium Series on Leveraging Applications of Formal Methods, Verification, and Validation, ISoLA. The topics covered by the papers of the SARS and the MLSC workshop demonstrate the breadth and the richness of the respective fields of the two workshops stretching from robot programming to languages and compilation techniques, to real-time and fault tolerance, to dependability, software architectures, computer vision, cognitive robotics, multi-robot-coordination, and simulation to bio-inspired algorithms, and from machine learning for anomaly detection, to model construction in software product lines to classification of web service interfaces. In addition the SARS workshop hosted a special session on the recently launched KOROS project on collaborating robot systems that is borne by a consortium of researchers of the faculties of architecture and planning, computer science, electrical engineering and information technology, and mechanical and industrial engineering at the Vienna University of Technology. The four papers devoted to this session highlight important research directions pursued in this interdisciplinary research project.

The series of International Conferences on Extending Database Technology (EDBT) is an established and prestigious forum for the exchange of the latest research results in data management. It provides unique opportunities for database researchers, practitioners, developers, and users to explore new ideas, techniques, and tools, and to exchange experiences. This volume contains the proceedings of the 10th EDBT Conference, held in Munich, Germany, March 27-29, 2006. The conference included 3 keynote talks, 56 full-size and 4 half-size research papers in 20 sessions, 8 industrial presentations in 3 sessions, 1 panel session, 5 tutorials in 7 sessions, and 20 demonstrations in 4 sessions. All of the research papers as well as papers and abstracts from most of the other sessions are included here. Distinguished members of the database and information-retrieval communities delivered the three keynotes, which were all in the spirit of the banner theme chosen for EDBT 2006: “From Database Systems to Universal Data Management. ” Martin Kersten, a pioneer in the area of database support for ambient application environments and the investigator of several kernel database architectures, discussed various hard issues that arise in organic database systems, i. e. , systems that can be embedded in several hardware applications and have autonomic behavior. Alan Smeaton, a leader in content-based retrieval of information in a wide variety of media, introduced us to the world of digital video libraries and challenged us with several open problems associated with their effective management.
