The proliferation of IoT devices is primarily responsible for the data deluge that has engulfed multiple industries. Nevertheless, due to the high dimensionality and complexity of IoT data streams, anomaly detection remains a significant challenge. This suggests that an unsupervised deep learning strategy could be used to identify anomalies in IoT data streams. Instead of relying on labeled data, this method employs deep neural networks, which can be trained to recognize anomalies and comprehend complex patterns. Experiments are conducted on a real-world IoT dataset to evaluate the efficacy and accuracy of the proposed method. The results demonstrate its proficiency in detecting anomalies in IoT data streams, paving the way for a safer, more reliable Internet of Things. Using unsupervised deep learning techniques, the method provides a practicable solution to the age-old problem of IoT anomaly identification. © 2023 IEEE.

Reproducible Domain-Specific Knowledge Graphs in the Life sciences: a Systematic Literature Review

Knowledge graphs (KGs) are widely used for representing and organizing structured knowledge in diverse domains. However, the creation and upkeep of KGs pose substantial challenges. Developing a KG demands extensive expertise in data modeling, ontology design, and data curation. Furthermore, KGs are dynamic, requiring continuous updates and quality control to ensure accuracy and relevance. These intricacies contribute to the considerable effort required for their development and maintenance. One critical dimension of KGs that warrants attention is reproducibility. The ability to replicate and validate KGs is fundamental for ensuring the trustworthiness and sustainability of the knowledge they represent. Reproducible KGs not only support open science by allowing others to build upon existing knowledge but also enhance transparency and reliability in disseminating information. Despite the growing number of domain-specific KGs, a comprehensive analysis concerning their reproducibility has been lacking. This paper addresses this gap by offering a general overview of domain-specific KGs and comparing them based on various reproducibility criteria. Our study over 19 different domains shows only eight out of 250 domain-specific KGs (3.2%) provide publicly available source code. Among these, only one system could successfully pass our reproducibility assessment (14.3%). These findings highlight the challenges and gaps in achieving reproducibility across domain-specific KGs. Our finding that only 0.4% of published domain-specific KGs are reproducible shows a clear need for further research and a shift in cultural practices. © 2023, CC BY.

The collaborative decision-making technology of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) is critical in today’s autonomous driving. Recently, graph reinforcement learning (GRL)-based methods have demonstrated exemplary performance in solving decision-making problems by implementing graphic technologies. However, current GRL-based research faces the challenge of modeling the interaction completely and extracting driving features efficiently. To address these issues, this paper proposes a social interaction force (SIF) spatial-temporal graph dynamic attention network (SIF-STGDAN) to solve the decision-making of CAVs. First, a SIF model is established to better represent the mutual effect between vehicles; an on-ramp merging scenario is then constructed and modeled by graph representation. Then, the SIF-STGDAN is proposed by combining the temporal convolutional network (TCN) and graph dynamic attention network to extract the graphic features of the on-ramp scenario efficiently, and the double deep q-learning (DDQN) algorithm is utilized to generate the optimized driving strategies for CAVs. Finally, experiments are conducted, and results show that our proposed SIF-STGDAN outperforms the baselines in terms of safety, efficiency, and model stability.

Traditional cryptographic frameworks are seriously threatened by the quick development of quantum computing, especially those that depend on public-key cryptosystems like RSA and ECC. Post-quantum cryptography (PQC) seeks to create cryptographic methods that are impervious to quantum computer assaults in order to overcome this difficulty. The National institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which has selected and standardised quantum-resistant techniques like CRYSTALS-Kyber for key encapsulation and CRYSTALS-Dilithium for digital signatures, has sparked recent advancements in PQC. At the same time, the need for reliable PQC solutions has increased due to developments in quantum computing, such as IBM's improvements in qubit stability and Google's 'quantum supremacy' assertion. In order to protect data security in the post-quantum age, PQC regulations must be adopted globally, as highlighted by the intersection of these fields. Current developments in PQC standardisation and the changing state of quantum computing technology are highlighted in this paper. © 2025 IEEE.

Today’s forest-based sector has been perceived as an industrial branch that slowly accommodates digital transformation toward Industry 4.0. The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in this sector offers numerous benefits and opportunities for enhanced efficiency, sustainability, and decision-making processes. In Forestry 4.0, which is characterized by its decentralized and heterogeneous nature, enabling transparent, secure, and self-sovereign interconnection and data exchange becomes especially crucial. In this context, authentication and authorization have become vital pillars for ensuring the security of IoT systems. Self-sovereign identities (SSI) enable individuals to have full control over their identities and related information. They can be created, managed, and verified without dependency on a centralized authority. The integration of SSIs into authentication and authorization systems has proven to be robust and secure for communication in various domains such as smart cities and health care. The adoption of SSIs is hypothesized to be the crucial factor in establishing decentralized communication while maintaining tamper-evident and trustworthy systems. From this perspective, we propose our SSI-based generic access control management system in this paper. Concretely, we structure the system based on XACML and integrate DIDs/VCs to enable authentication and authorization processes in a formalized way. Finally, a proof-of-concept prototype is implemented to demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed system in Forestry 4.0 with the passability use case.

Real-time vital signs (breathing and heartbeat) monitoring is essential for patient care and sleep disease prevention. Current solutions are mostly based on wearable sensors or cameras, the former affects the quality of sleep, while the latter is not conducive to privacy protection, and the cost of these methods is usually expensive. In this paper, we propose Wital, a real-time vital signs monitoring system based on the low-cost and widespread COTS WiFi device. Most of the existing WiFi-based vital signs monitoring solutions utilize the line of sight (LOS) WiFi signals to achieve powerful performance. However, in our daily environments, NLOS sensing is more common. In this article, we first model the relationship between the energy ratio of LOS/NLOS signals and the ability to monitor vital signs based on the Ricean-K theory and theoretically prove that blocking LOS signals in NLOS sensing is more beneficial. We have also established a real-time vital signs monitoring system to verify our method, and the experimental results prove the effectiveness of our method. © 2021 IEEE.

In ophthalmology, early fundus screening is an economic and effective way to prevent blindness caused by ophthalmic diseases. Clinically, due to the lack of medical resources, manual diagnosis is time-consuming and may delay the condition. With the development of deep learning, some researches on ophthalmic diseases have achieved good results, however, most of them are just based on one disease. During fundus screening, ophthalmologists usually give diagnoses of multi-disease on binocular fundus image, so we release a dataset with 8 diseases to meet the real medical scene, which contains 10,000 fundus images from both eyes of 5,000 patients. We did some benchmark experiments on it through some state-of-the-art deep neural networks. We found simply increasing the scale of network cannot bring good results for multi-disease classification, and a well-structured feature fusion method combines characteristics of multi-disease is needed. Through this work, we hope to advance the research of related fields. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) enables developers and operations teams to automatically deploy and manage an IT infrastructure via software. Among other uses, IaC is widely used in the context of continuously released deployments such as those of microservice and other cloud-based systems. Although IaC-based deployments have been utilized by many companies, there are no approaches on checking their conformance to architectural aspects yet. In this paper, we focus on security-related practices including observability, access control, and traffic control in IaC-based deployments. While best practices for this topic have been documented in some gray literature sources such as practitioners’ blogs and public repositories, approaches enabling automated checking of conformance to such best practices do not yet exist. We propose a model-based approach based on generic, technology-independent metrics, tied to typical architectural design decisions on IaC-based deployments. With this approach, we can measure conformance to security-related practices. We demonstrate and assess the validity and appropriateness of these metrics in assessing a system’s conformance to practices through regression analysis.

Fossil fuels and air pollution are significant problems nowadays, causing many countries to increase their investments in renewable energy development. As the world's energy demand grows, governments are looking into and developing alternative energy sources like solar energy. Solar energy is one of the most promising solutions to address the above problem. In addition, the development of sustainable design in architecture has become a crucial factor in the construction industry as the world faces the challenges of climate change and diminishing fossil fuel reserves. Architects are now seeking innovative ways to incorporate sustainable and renewable energy sources into their designs. Solar energy, as a sustainable and clean energy source, has gained significant attention in recent years. It offers an opportunity to reduce the dependence on non-renewable energy sources and lower carbon emissions. Additionally, the use of solar technology in architectural designs can enhance the aesthetic appeal of buildings while providing energy efficiency. Building-integrated photovoltaic systems have emerged as a popular solution that allows for the integration of photovoltaic cells into the structure of buildings. In this paper, a new architectural design for a building in Tehran is proposed, which leads to the increase of generated solar energy. Needless to say, the designs must be beautiful to look at, functional, and good for the environment. Grasshopper and rhino are utilized to demonstrate the design. In addition, System Advisor Model (SAM) is implemented to study the economic analysis of the solar photovoltaic system planted on the building. The simulation result indicates that with the new design, the power production is increased from 21437 kWh to 69484 kWh. In addition, by using the proposed system in comparison with fossil fuel power plants, a huge amount of air pollution is will be removed from the air.
