Exhausters are very crucial components in sinter plant of steel manufacturing industries. Problems in fan or motor side of the exhausters lead to machine stoppages or reduced speed, resulting in stoppage of the system and decreased sinter production. Common issues include imbalance, misalignments, looseness, eccentricity, and motor bearing failure. The proposed IoT-based system aims to continuously analyze vibration signals, predict issues, and prevent sudden stoppages and exhauster tripping, thereby enhancing overall plant efficiency. This study focuses on online monitoring and health prediction of industrial exhausters by selection of statistical features extracted from triaxial time-series vibration data by using multiple optimizers, followed by implementation of machine learning classifiers. By incorporating a novel feature selection process based on nature-inspired optimizers, this methodology aims to enhance the overall generalization performance of classification. The retrained models with cross-validation were evaluated with real-time industrial data, which shows 99.5% cross-validation accuracy and 95.83% real-time prediction accuracy. The proposed methodology holds great potential for detecting machine faults in industrial applications.

The differences in the structure and composition materials of landslide dams often lead to great dissimilarity in dam stability, which often depend on the dynamic accumulation process of landslide dam. In order to investigate the response of dynamic characteristics of landslide to the composition material distribution of landslide dams, the migration and accumulation process of rock slopes with two weathering degrees was simulated by bonded particles and micro-cracks based on discrete element modelling. A new reconstructed distribution identification method was proposed in this paper to quantify the grain size distribution of dam. The results showed that the composition materials of dam, formed by weakly weathered slope, was poorly sorted, with medium particles located in surface layer, coarse particles located in middle and fine particles located in bottom of the valley. The material composition of dam, formed by strongly weathered slope, was well sorted, which spatial distribution showed well reverse segregation structure. It was found that the differences in particle size distribution between two kinds of landslide dams were mainly manifested in fine particles and coarse particles. The kinetic disintegration in weakly weathered slope was weakened, due to the accumulation of force coupling below hard rock at substrate, which occurred because of the fragmentation of particles aside it. As a result, there are more coarse particles and fewer fine particles in grain size distribution of its accumulation dam. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the structure and materials distribution of landslide dams, and assists the prediction of the stability of landslide dams. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Additive robotic construction of building-scale discrete bar structures, such as trusses and space frames, is increasingly attractive due to the potential improvements in efficiency, safety, and design possibilities. However, programming complex robots, such as manipulators with seven degrees of freedom, to successfully complete construction tasks can be tedious, challenging, or impossible for a human to do manually. Namely, the structure must be constructed in a sequence that preserves structural properties, such as stiffness, at each step. At the same time, this sequence must allow for the robot to precisely manipulate elements within the in-progress structure while respecting geometric constraints that, for example, ensure the robot does not collide with what it has built. In this work, we present an automated and newly generalized planning approach for jointly finding a construction sequence and robot motion plan for additive construction that satisfies these requirements. Our approach can be applied in a variety of additive construction processes, and we demonstrate it specifically on spatial extrusion and discrete bar assembly in this paper. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on several simulated and real-world extrusion and assembly tasks, including a human-scale physical prototype, for which our algorithm is deployed for the first time to plan the assembly of a complicated double tangent bar system design.

Optimal mapping for near-term quantum architectures based on rydberg atoms

—Quantum algorithms promise quadratic or exponential speedups for applications in cryptography, chemistry and material sciences. The topologies of today’s quantum computers offer limited connectivity, leading to significant overheads for implementing such quantum algorithms. One-dimensional topology displacements that remedy these limits have been recently demonstrated for architectures based on Rydberg atoms, and they are possible in principle in photonic and ion trap architectures. We present the first optimal quantum circuit-to-architecture mapping algorithm that exploits such one-dimensional topology displacements. We benchmark our method on quantum circuits with up to 15 qubits and investigate the improvements compared with conventional mapping based on inserting swap gates into the quantum circuits. Depending on underlying technology parameters, our approach can decrease the quantum circuit depth by up to 58% and increase the fidelity by up to 29%. We also study runtime and fidelity requirements on one-dimensional displacements and swap gates to derive conditions under which one-dimensional topology displacements provide benefits. Traditional cryptographic frameworks are seriously threatened by the quick development of quantum computing, especially those that depend on public-key cryptosystems like RSA and ECC. Post-quantum cryptography (PQC) seeks to create cryptographic methods that are impervious to quantum computer assaults in order to overcome this difficulty. The National institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which has selected and standardised quantum-resistant techniques like CRYSTALS-Kyber for key encapsulation and CRYSTALS-Dilithium for digital signatures, has sparked recent advancements in PQC. At the same time, the need for reliable PQC solutions has increased due to developments in quantum computing, such as IBM's improvements in qubit stability and Google's “quantum supremacy” assertion. In order to protect data security in the post-quantum age, PQC regulations must be adopted globally, as highlighted by the intersection of these fields. Current developments in PQC standardisation and the changing state of quantum computing technology are highlighted in this paper.

In recent years, large-scale deep models have achieved great success, but the huge computational complexity and massive storage requirements make it a great challenge to deploy them in resource-limited devices. As a model compression and acceleration method, knowledge distillation effectively improves the performance of small models by transferring the dark knowledge from the teacher detector. However, most of the existing distillation-based detection methods mainly imitating features near bounding boxes, which suffer from two limitations. First, they ignore the beneficial features outside the bounding boxes. Second, these methods imitate some features which are mistakenly regarded as the background by the teacher detector. To address the above issues, we propose a novel Feature-Richness Score (FRS) method to choose important features that improve generalized detectability during distilling. The proposed method effectively retrieves the important features outside the bounding boxes and removes the detrimental features within the bounding boxes. Extensive experiments show that our methods achieve excellent performance on both anchor-based and anchor-free detectors. For example, RetinaNet with ResNet-50 achieves 39.7% in mAP on the COCO2017 dataset, which even surpasses the ResNet-101 based teacher detector 38.9% by 0.8%.

This study focuses on the application of the YOLOv3 (You Only Look Once version 3) object detection algorithm for the analysis of concrete cracks and fatigue within Smart Cities. Concrete infrastructure plays a crucial role in urban environments, and its structural integrity is paramount for ensuring public safety and sustainable development. The proposed approach utilizes YOLOv3 to identify and localize instances of concrete cracks and signs of fatigue in images and videos captured from various urban settings. By leveraging deep learning techniques, this research aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of monitoring and maintaining concrete structures, contributing to the overall resilience and longevity of Smart Cities. Compared to natural images, hyperspectral images (HSIs) consist of a large number of bands, with each band capturing different spectral information from a certain wavelength, even some beyond the visible spectrum. These characteristics of HSIs make them highly effective for remote sensing applications. That said, the existing hyperspectral imaging devices introduce severe degradation in HSIs. Hence, hyperspectral image denoising has attracted lots of attention by the community lately. While recent deep HSI denoising methods have provided effective solutions, their performance under real-life complex noise remains suboptimal, as they lack adaptability to new data. To overcome these limitations, in our work, we introduce a self-modulating convolutional neural network which we refer to as SM-CNN, which utilizes correlated spectral and spatial information. At the core of the model lies a novel block, which we call spectral self-modulating residual block (SSMRB), that allows the network to transform the features in an adaptive manner based on the adjacent spectral data, enhancing the network’s ability to handle complex noise. In particular, the introduction of SSMRB transforms our denoising network into a dynamic network that adapts its predicted features while denoising every input HSI with respect to its spatio-spectral characteristics. Experimental analysis on both synthetic and real data shows that the proposed SM-CNN outperforms other state-of-the-art HSI denoising methods both quantitatively and qualitatively on public benchmark datasets. In this study we address the complex practical problem of multiple heterogeneous container loading with a simple genetic algorithm. We demonstrate that with a well-chosen representation including a heuristic and a suitable fitness function the other aspects of the genetic algorithm do not need extensive work for good results. Cross-layer Protocols for proper resource Allocation in Mobile Networks are a singular technique to enhance the efficiency of wireless networks. The method utilizes multiple layers of the radio protocol stack better to coordinate cell node scheduling and resource allocation. Using combining communication, routing, and scheduling functionalities in an unmarried protocol, pass-Layer Protocols for proper resource Allocation can offer a sizable will increase in the number of facts that may be transferred and the overall latency and throughput of the community. This technique can also enhance the radio interface’s operation by lowering interference and encouraging collaborative communications. Eventually, by using facts and managing records from the communique and routing layers, go-Layer Protocols for proper resource Allocation can reduce the complexity of the community, even offering greater scalability. This paper affords unique cross-Layer Protocols for resource Allocation in Cellular Networks. The proposed protocol permits integrated resource allocation in the cell network environment, considering communication and computation layers.
