Traditional cryptographic frameworks are seriously threatened by the quick development of quantum computing, especially those that depend on public-key cryptosystems like RSA and ECC. Post-quantum cryptography (PQC) seeks to create cryptographic methods that are impervious to quantum computer assaults in order to overcome this difficulty. The National institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which has selected and standardised quantum-resistant techniques like CRYSTALS-Kyber for key encapsulation and CRYSTALS-Dilithium for digital signatures, has sparked recent advancements in PQC. At the same time, the need for reliable PQC solutions has increased due to developments in quantum computing, such as IBM's improvements in qubit stability and Google's “quantum supremacy” assertion. In order to protect data security in the post-quantum age, PQC regulations must be adopted globally, as highlighted by the intersection of these fields. Current developments in PQC standardisation and the changing state of quantum computing technology are highlighted in this paper.

This article investigates the adaptive resource allocation scheme for digital twin (DT) synchronization optimization over dynamic wireless networks. In our considered model, a base station (BS) continuously collects factory physical object state data from wireless devices to build a real-time virtual DT system for factory event analysis. Due to continuous data transmission, maintaining DT synchronization must use extensive wireless resources. To address this issue, a subset of devices is selected to transmit their sensing data, and resource block (RB) allocation is optimized. This problem is formulated as a constrained Markov process (CMDP) problem that minimizes the long-term mismatch between the physical and virtual systems. To solve this CMDP, we first transform the problem into a dual problem that refines RB constraint impacts on device scheduling strategies. We then propose a continual reinforcement learning (CRL) algorithm to solve the dual problem. The CRL algorithm learns a stable policy across historical experiences for quick adaptation to dynamics in physical states and network capacity. Simulation results show that the CRL can adapt quickly to network capacity changes and reduce normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) between physical and virtual states by up to 55.2%, using the same RB number as traditional methods. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

Integrating antibacterial functionality directly into platforms for cell sheet engineering (CSE) would offer proactive defense against bacterial contamination and improve the safety and efficacy of CSE in cell-based therapies. This study demonstrates the potential of poly(4-vinylpyridine) polymer brushes with embedded copper nanoparticles (P4VP&Cu) as innovative CSE platforms, using the adult retinal pigment epithelial cell line (ARPE-19). The unique properties of such coatings, which combine the thermo-responsiveness of the polymer brush with the strong antibiocidal activity of copper, were traced using an interdisciplinary approach to provide information on the physicochemical properties of coatings, and confirm their cytocompatibility, and antibacterial effect through the contact- and release-killing mechanisms as a function of temperature. In particular, differentiated ARPE-19 cells cultured on P4VP coatings demonstrated spontaneous thermo-triggered detachment of intact cell sheets, which preserved their biological activity. This effect was maintained on P4VP&Cu coatings, which exhibited superior antibacterial activity without compromising cell viability in addition to resistance to protein adsorption. These findings highlight the potential of P4VP&Cu coatings as next-generation CSE platforms, combining effective antimicrobial defense with precise thermo-responsive functionality. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

The fourth industrial revolution is predicted to be one major topic in the upcoming decades, affecting nearly every industrial facility. The key enabler for the successful integration of corresponding developments are well-trained engineers with elaborated knowledge in the area of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). This paper introduces a concept enabling engineering students to gain the required skills for the upcoming challenges connected with the fourth industrial revolution. Therefore, the Smart MiniFab was developed - a demonstrator of an industrial facility primed for the implementation and the analysis of different IIoT concepts on a small scale. Due to the modular structure of the system, students can use the demonstrator to programmatically implement the functionality of an entire facility from scratch or to test only certain new concepts. The hardware can be programmed via remote access from anywhere at any time, while live feedback is provided through a webcam and different other communication possibilities directly within the remote access application. While the Smart MiniFab was already the HW environment of different student projects, a new lab course is currently under development which enables the access to the Smart MiniFab for a broad number of students. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

Epoch-based Application Collaboration for Sensing Data Analysis

The application collaboration was addressed to provide energy-efficient data services for distributed sensing applications to collaboratively interacting to achieve a desired global objective not detectable by any single cluster. An epoch-based transaction model was proposed by using the concept of sphere of control （SoC）, and a collaborative sensing application can be dynamically formed as a nested architecture composed of time-synchronized applications. By loosening the rigid constraints of ACID to adapt the requirements of sensor networks, the submission, rollback and consistency rules ware educed and a two-phrase submission protocol was designed. Finally, it was illustrated that the model is capable of providing an adaptive formal template for sensing application collaboration. Our performance evaluations show that by applying the two-phrase submission protocol, we can significantly improve the number of reported answers and response time, raise resource utilization, and reduce the energy cansumption and data loss.

Efficient Evolution of Variable Ordering for Binary Decision Diagram Optimization

The hardware complexity related to the number of transistors in electronic devices used by today's society has grown considerably in the last decades because of technological progress. In order to guarantee the correct behavior of such devices and meet time-to-market constraints, there is a need to continuously develop more efficient data structures and algorithms in formal verification. The performance of verification algorithms depends in particular on the compactness of data structures. A reduced ordered binary decision diagram (BDD) is basically a suitable data structure to verify digital circuits, as it represents Boolean functions canonically respecting a variable ordering and allows direct manipulation of them. However, one of the main challenges with BDDs is to find a variable ordering so that the BDD size of a function is compact and does not become impractical due to a dramatically increasing number of BDD nodes. To address the aforementioned issue, this article presents a novel evolution strategy having an efficient evaluation of variable ordering in a divide-and-conquer manner for BDD optimization. Experiments on benchmarks of multilevel circuits show that using this strategy results in considerably smaller BDDs being found significantly faster compared to state-of-the-art optimization techniques. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Machine-learning techniques have recently been proved to be successful in various domains, especially in emerging commercial applications. As a set of machine- learning techniques, artificial neural networks （ANNs）, requiring considerable amount of computation and memory, are one of the most popular algorithms and have been applied in a broad range of applications such as speech recognition, face identification, natural language processing, ect. Conventionally, as a straightforward way, conventional CPUs and GPUs are energy-inefficient due to their excessive effort for flexibility. According to the aforementioned situation, in recent years, many researchers have proposed a number of neural network accelerators to achieve high performance and low power consumption. Thus, the main purpose of this literature is to briefly review recent related works, as well as the DianNao-family accelerators. In summary, this review can serve as a reference for hardware researchers in the area of neural networks.

Scientific evidence sustains PM_(2.5)particles’inhalation may generate harmful impacts on human beings’health;therefore,theirmonitoring in ambient air is of paramount relevance in terms of public *** to the limited number of fixed stations within the air qualitymonitoring networks,development ofmethodological frameworks tomodel ambient air PM_(2.5)particles is primordial to providing additional information on PM_(2.5)exposure and its *** this sense,this work aims to offer a global easily-applicable tool to estimate ambient air PM_(2.5)as a function of meteorological conditions using a multivariate *** PM_(2.5)data measured by 84 fixed monitoring stations and meteorological data from ERA5(ECMWF Reanalysis v5)reanalysis daily based data between 2000 and 2021 across the United Kingdom were attended to develop the suggested *** from January 2017 to December 2020 were employed to build amathematical expression that related the dependent variable(PM_(2.5))to predictor ones(sea-level pressure,planetary boundary layer height,temperature,precipitation,wind direction and speed),while 2021 data tested the *** indicators evidenced a good performance of model(maximum values of RMSE,MAE and MAPE:1.80μg/m^(3),3.24μg/m^(3),and 20.63%,respectively),compiling the current legislation’s requirements for modelling ambient air PM_(2.5)concentrations.A retrospective analysis of meteorological features allowed estimating ambient air PM_(2.5)concentrations from 2000 to *** highest PM_(2.5)concentrations relapsed in theMid-and Southlands,while Northlands sustained the lowest concentrations.

The user interface generation process is still a complex issue. The manual creation process is time consuming and complex because it requires the combination of the application developer work and the user interface designer work. Therefore, many approaches investigate the automatic user interface generation. However, currently such approaches are not able to take usability aspects into account, due to the lack of information for such a process. Thus, we propose a tool which intends to ease and enhance the automatic user interface generation process for services by introducing service annotations that are attached to services and provide additional information for the process of automatic user interface generation. © 2009: CriMiCo'2009 Organizing Committee.
