This article proposes an application of a mini-malistic Real Time Operating System (RTOS) for a construction of a device that works in the Internet of Things. The solution described in the article is an effective and feasible alternative to minicomputers with the Linux and Python language interpreter. The application of RTOS reduces significantly the required hardware resources, which results in a decrease of the cost of the device and an increase in its energy saving efficiency and reliability. The paper presents the design of an access server that makes remote operation of 16 serial ports possible and that controls 16 power lines via the Ethernet. The device has been developed on the basis of an 8-bit micro-controller equipped with 64 kB of external memory for data and simple power-saving ethernet driver without dedicated processor. Thanks to the application of the operating system the software is composed of a number of tasks running in parallel and being in close communication with one another. With the approach that is compatible with the philosophy of the Internet of Things, there is no need to implement an advanced management panel on the device. This functionality can be implemented in the cloud - on a virtual server.

This paper proposes an analytical calculation method for determining occupancy distribution and blocking probability in multi-threshold state-dependent systems that simultaneously service multi-rate PCT1 and PCT2 traffic streams. The proposed analytical model is applied to calculate traffic characteristics in UMTS networks with streaming, adaptive and elastic services. The results of analytical calculations of blocking probability in the UMTS cell are compared with simulation data in order to evaluate accuracy of the proposed analytical model.

In this paper, we address the problem of the strict-sense nonblocking operation of an elastic optical switch. Elastic optical switches are used as nodes in elastic optical networks (EONs), where fine granular frequency slots or flexible grids are used in opposite to the traditional optical networks, where fixed grids are used. The switch architecture considered in this paper consists of waveband converting switches in input and output stages, while in the center stage there is only one wavelength selective space switch without wavelength conversion capabilities. We derive the number of frequency channels k needed in interstage links to ensure the nonblocking operation of the switch when input and output links have n frequency channels and a frequency slot of one connection is not greater than m frequency channels. Both, necessity and sufficient conditions are proved.

communications networks routing is not a new subject. However, with a growth of packet networks and the increase of their range and importance, the task of conveying information over the web has grown beyond its original shape and has become far more sophisticated. It is no longer computer scientists and the military that make use of the global network exclusively; it can be stated that almost every possible group from the global population has numerous representatives among Internet users. This fact is coupled with a decrease in the popularity of the original communication media such as the telephone and the e-mail. This is mainly due to them being assimilated into packet networks along with the process of network convergence. A number of different types of information streams in packet networks has been observed and classified. It turns out that careful resources management itself may lead to an increase in the information transporting efficiency. In this paper, an approach is explored - the Lagrangian relaxation - that enables incorporating multiple criteria into the routing problem solution. At the same time, the low computation complexity is maintained that enables further consideration of the technique also in practical scenarios.

Mobile networks are among the fastest-developing areas of ICT. The increasing number of network users and the number of services offered by the network makes it necessary to develop new methods of network modeling and analysis. These methods also need to take into account the influence of complex traffic management mechanisms on network efficiency. An important group of traffic management mechanisms are used for the handover functionality. The paper proposes a new analytical model of a handover mechanism employed in the UMTS network.

The paper proposes a new analytical approach to blocking probability calculation in wireless mobile networks with bandwidth reservation and connection handoff mechanisms, carrying a mixture of different traffic streams. This mixture can be composed of an arbitrary number of traffic classes, generated by a finite as well as an infinite population of traffic sources. The appropriate bandwidth reservation algorithm for a group of cells, exploiting the effects of connection handoff between cells, is also proposed. The results of analytical calculations of blocking probability in a group of UMTS cells with bandwidth reservation are compared with simulation data.

This article proposes a new method for a determination of the two-dimensional distribution in systems with overflow traffic. The method proposed in the article offers a significant reduction of computational complexity as compared to two-dimensional convolution methods hitherto proposed. The proposed method is based on a determination of the two-dimensional distribution in the system with traffic overflow on the basis of the one-dimensional distribution. The accuracy of the proposed method, verified and validated in the course of relevant simulation experiments, supports its wider applicability in engineering practice to analyse and dimension multiservice networks with traffic overflow. The algorithm developed by the authors allows researchers to model systems with any type of traffic offered to primary resources.

The general case of multiplane wide-sense nonblocking multicast switching networks which are based on the baseline network are considered in this paper. Up to now, wide-sense nonblocking (WSNB) log 2 (N, 0, p), log 2 (N, m, p) and log d (N, 0, p) switching networks have been considered for multicast connections. A control algorithm under which these networks are WSNB is called the variable-size blocking window algorithm. In this paper, the path-searching algorithm is adopted for log d (N, m, p) networks with m extra stages and for general case d ¿ 2. The WSNB multicast conditions for log d (N, m, p) networks are presented (without proofs) and the optimal multicast switching networks are investigated.

In this article we present the new algorithm Maximal Size Matching with Permanent Selection (MSMPS). This algorithm offers high efficiency with minimal MTD (Mean Time Delay). This algorithm based on permanent connections between inputs and outputs. When at least two connections without packets to send are found (empty connections), algorithm tries to convert them into better matching with the longest VOQ from the available. Simulations confirm that for large load our algorithm provides better efficiency than other algorithms.

In this paper, we propose the new architecture of the optical switching fabric which is based on the baseline switching network. Traditional baseline switching networks are composed of 2 × 2 (or d × d) switches. The new architecture considered in this paper is constructed from 2 × 2, 3 × 3, 2 × 3 and 3 × 2 switching elements. We show, that the proposed architecture requires less crosspoints than the traditional baseline architecture. We assumed an optical application, where semiconductor optical amplifiers are used as the optical switching elements. The proposed structure requires less number of active elements as well as passive optical splitters and combiners than the traditional baseline switching fabric. It also contains one stage fewer than the banyan network (therefore we called it the log 2 N - 1 switching fabric), which results in lower signal losses, distortions, and crosstalk.
