The article is devoted to an implementation of the Control Plane module (responsible for the routing) for the nodes of Parallel Internet IPv6 QoS network. The mentioned network is one out of three IIP System networks, built within the Future Internet Engineering project. A characteristic feature of the PI IPv6 QoS network is to provide an appropriate quality of services. This functionality is dependent on the routing as well. Therefore, the CP module must meet the numerous criteria. A way of applying the Control Plane module for the nodes of PI IPv6 QoS network, proposed by the authors of this article, has been implemented, tested and integrated with this network. The conducted tests have proved a correctness of the named assumptions.

This paper presents the control algorithm for non-interruptive rearrangements in Log2(N,0,p) switching networks. The proposed algorithm is able to find a plane for any new connection in the rearrangeable switching network with no more than three rearrangements. Moreover, these rearrangements can be realized in the switching network without interrupting transmission for existing connections. Rearrangements are done by setting up a new connecting path before the old connecting path for the rearranged connection is disconnected. We also describe the FPGA implementation of this algorithm for the Log2(N,0,p) switching network. This FPGA controller has been tested and verified.

The present article proposes a new method for modelling multi-service packet networks with implemented traffic overflow mechanisms. The basis for the proposed method is a special convolution algorithm that enables to determine the occupancy distribution and the blocking probability in network systems in which packet streams (calls) of individual traffic classes can be serviced by both direct and alternative resources. The algorithm worked out by the authors makes it possible to model systems with any type of traffic offered to direct groups. The methods that are to be found and are described in the literature of the subject permit the researcher to model systems in which direct groups are offered either Erlang or Engset streams.

In this paper we present rearrangeable log 2 (N, 0, p) switching fabrics and the control algorithm for the case of an even number of stages. The main topic of this paper is the implementation of a hardware controller for such fabrics. The algorithm is described in VHDL code and realized in ML505 - the demo board for Virtex 5 - FGPA chip from the Xilinx Company. The implementation presented here works very fast, the controller can send out the set of actual signals just 20 nanoseconds after the request has been made.

In modern cellular networks the provision of higher priorities to Quality of Service (QoS) sensitive applications is the important task for cellular networks vendors and operators. In order to satisfy these requirements it is necessary to implement QoS mechanisms in the software and hardware used in multiservice cellular networks. QoS mechanisms in the LTE network can be implemented, for example, in the radio interface. In the article, a new analytical model for a determination of traffic characteristics of RT and NRT traffic streams serviced in the LTE radio interface is proposed. The model has been validated by a number of simulation experiments carried out by the authors. The conducted experiments have confirmed that the proposed analytical model can be used for engineering calculations.

The paper proposes an analytical approach to blocking probability calculation in the UMTS network carrying a mixture of multi-rate traffic, under the assumption that the part of resources of the interface is dedicated for servicing handoff traffic. In the proposed method, handoff connections are modeled on the basis of the fixed point methodology and dynamic reservation. The results of analytical calculation of the blocking probability in the group of cells carrying a mixture of different multi-rate traffic streams are compared with the results of the simulation experiments, which confirms a rather high accuracy of the method. The described calculation scheme is applicable for cost-effective resource management in 3G mobile networks and can be easily applied to network capacity calculations.

Within the framework of the acoowee-project we want to improve the programming of Wireless Sensor networks (WSNs) by using and adapting the expressiveness of UML2 Activity Diagrams (UADs) to specify the behavior of the WSN. We expect that our proposal can simplify the way of programming the functional behavior of a WSN and so bring the programming closer to domain experts. We develop the acoowee-framework for Sun SPOTs (spots). The user of the acoowee-framework visually programs UADs and saves them. Afterwards, these UADs are converted into scripts and deployed to the spots e.g. over the air. Finally, the interpreter that runs on the spots executes the scripts. In this demo we present the usage of the acoowee-framework by means of a network consisting of 5 spots and a host with a connected base station. We present all steps listed above. Additionally, we show a rule based manipulation of already deployed scripts and give the attendees the possibilities to try this kind of programming by themselves.

Modern enterprise applications are often designed as distributed architectures, e.g., thin client computing and thus degradations in network related Quality of Service (QoS) parameters may also negatively impact the user-perceived Quality of Experience (QoE) of the application. In this work, we create a model to predict the perceived application quality based on measurements of objective technical parameters. For this, we gathered a data set in a cooperating enterprise over a timespan of nearly three months. As the obtained data set is subject to bias that originates from seasonal effects as well as a limited and predefined set of technical parameters, we further evaluate how to identify segments of the data that lead to misclassification. Last, we quantify the trade-off between the gain in the QoE prediction accuracy and the amount of filtered data.
