In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, visual impairment poses significant challenges for approximately 17.5% of school-aged children, mainly due to refractive errors. These challenges extend to everyday navigation, environmental interaction, and overall life quality. Motivated by the desire to empower visually impaired individuals, who face navigational limitations, difficulties in object recognition, and inadequate assistance from traditional technologies, we propose SightAid. This innovative wearable vision system utilizes a deep learning-based framework, addressing the gaps left by current assistive solutions. Traditional methods, such as canes and GPS devices, often fail to meet the nuanced and dynamic needs of the visually impaired, especially in accurately identifying objects, understanding complex environments, and providing essential real-time feedback for independent navigation. SightAid comprises a seven-phase framework involving data collection, preprocessing, and training of a sophisticated deep neural network with multiple convolutional and fully connected layers. This system is integrated into smart glasses with augmented reality displays, enabling real-time object detection and recognition. Interaction with users is facilitated through audio or haptic feedback, informing them about the location and type of objects detected. A continuous learning mechanism, incorporating user feedback and new data, ensures the system's ongoing refinement and adaptability. For performance assessment, we utilized the MNIST dataset, and an Indoor Objects Detection dataset tailored for the visually impaired, featuring images of everyday objects crucial for safe indoor navigation. SightAid demonstrates remarkable performance with accuracy up to 0.9874, recall values between 0.98 and 0.99, F1-scores ranging from 0.98 to 0.99, and AUC-ROC values reaching as high as 0.9999. Most advanced control methods require a sufficiently accurate model of the system to be controlled. These models are becoming increasingly difficult to generate due to the increasing complexity of the underlying systems. To address this problem, data-driven models can be used. These kind of models are trained based on data of the dynamic system. They can be used for controller design and also be applied directly to control the system. In this work, a stochastic model predictive controller (SMPC) with a Gaussian process model (GP) is utilized. The main advantage of GPs is the construction of a dynamic system model with the possibility of determining the uncertainty of its own prediction. In this contribution, three different utilizations of prediction uncertainty in SMPC are compared. Additionally, two different implementations of dynamic GPs, nonlinear autoregressive exogenous GPs (GP-NARX) and a state-space model based on GPs (GP-SSM), are considered. All six test cases are compared based on an evaluation criterion that describes the resulting control performance. A simulated inverted pendulum, a benchmark for nonlinear and unstable systems, is used as test system. In this work, the combinations of different dynamic GPs and the application of their uncertainty prediction in SMPC are evaluated and compared. © 2023 ICROS.

The identification of a nonlinear system model given only measurement data is a frequently encountered task. Uncovering the structure of differential equations as system model alongside with the determination of the optimal parameters is still problem under investigation. Assuming a differentially flat system under investigation, an algorithm for single input single output systems is proposed that faces this identification task. To find a proper state space model, an iterative strategy is presented expanding an initial solution in every step. Harnessing only the measurement data and not their time derivatives a criterion is proposed to select promising extensions to the model avoiding extensive simulation studies on possible model structures. Applying a subset selection reduces the complexity of the resulting models and avoids overfitting. To show the capability of the presented approach to identify a nonlinear state space model from data, a simulation example is presented.

We introduce a method to evaluate the similarities between classes of objects based on the confusion matrices coming from the multi-class machine learning (ML) predictors that operate in the vector space generated by the classes. Operation in the confusion domain allows us to use the distance as evaluation metric of the closeness of the relevant properties carried by the classes. We applied the method to semiquantitatively evaluate the effects of X-ray and carbon ion radiation on cultured SW1353 chondrosarcoma cells with respect to the non-irradiated reference. We prove that it is possible to draw useful information on the strength of cells nuclei changes. © 2025, Politechnica University of Bucharest. All rights reserved.

Quantum computing is progressing at a fast rate and there is a real threat that classical cryptographic methods can be compromised and therefore impact the security of blockchain networks. All of the ways used to secure blockchain like Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA), Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and Secure Hash Algorithm 256-bit (SHA256) are the characteristic of the traditional cryptographic techniques vulnerable to attack by quantum algorithms: Shor’s and Grover’s algorithms: can efficiently break asymmetric encryption and speed up brute force attacks. Because of this vulnerability, there exists a need to develop an advance quantum resilient blockchain framework to protect the decentralized ledgers from the future threats of the quantum. This research proposes Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) as a formidable architectural integration, to fortify security of blockchain. Classical encryption is replaced with PQC, QKD with secure key exchange by detecting eavesdropping, and QRNG with improving cryptographic randomness to remove the predictable key vulnerability. Only with a small loss of transaction efficiency, we increase transaction encryption accuracy, key exchange security, and resistance to quantum attacks. In this quantum enhanced blockchain design, the idea is to preserve the decentralization, transparency and security and at the same time overcome the future quantum threat. By going through rigorous analysis and comparative evaluation, we demonstrate that the approach saves blockchain networks from the emerging quantum risks to make sure that the decentralized finance, smart contracts and cross chain transactions. © (2025), (science and Information Organization). Extracting parameters accurately and effectively from solar photovoltaic (PV) models is crucial for detailed simulation, evaluation, and management of PV systems. Although there has been an increase in the development of analytical, numerical, and metaheuristic methods targeting this task, accurately determining these parameters continues to be a significant challenge. This study focuses on applying Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for the extraction of key parameters of RTC France solar cells, a critical step towards enhancing PV system efficiency and reliability. Additionally, the PSO's performance is evaluated against other metaheuristic algorithms including Enhanced Chaotic JAYA (CJAYA), Performance-Guided JAYA (PGJAYA), and Enhanced Gradient-Based Optimizer (EGBO), underscoring the effectiveness of the proposed PSO-based approach. Utilizing MATLAB-SIMULINK, comprehensive analysis and results are presented, shedding light on the efficacy of PSO in addressing the intricacies of parameter extraction in PV systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In this paper we examine the well-posedness of evolutionary variational-hemivariational inequalities involving a constraint set and history-dependent operators. The strong and weak formulations of such inequalities are studied. First, the existence and uniqueness of solutions to both formulations are proved, and results on the dependence of solution on functional parameters are delivered. Next, the well-posedness is established for a general form of history-dependent variational-hemivariational inequalities with constraints by using a fixed point theorem. Finally, the results are applied to a dynamic frictional contact problem in viscoelasticity in which the contact is described by Signorini-type unilateral boundary condition with a nonmonotone Clarke’s relation. © The Author(s) 2024.
