Eco-friendly freight operations are crucial for decarbonizing the transportation sector. Systematic analysis of policy measures requires a principled modeling approach. While the commonly used model referred to as routing game considers the congestible nature of transportation facilities, exiting models fail to account for environmental factors. This paper aims at providing a mathematical framework to study strategic interaction between owners of mixed fleets comprising of both internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV) and electric vehicle (EV) trucks. This study introduces a "green"routing game with incomplete information that models strategic interaction among multiple logistic operators. These players face a pollution tax imposed on ICEVs and a potential delayed delivery cost due to EV charging requirements with uncertainty. In contrast to existing models, this novel model captures the players' trade-off between lengthier congestion delay at charging stations as the share of EV trucks increases and higher pollution costs with increased ICEVs usage, with uncertainty determined by a latent state. We first provide equilibrium characterization and present a condition for essential uniqueness. We show that this equilibrium can be computed in a distributed manner using a gradient projection method. We then introduce a public information system that broadcasts real-time information about the latent state. Importantly, we analyze value of information for providing a condition for the public information to be beneficial. Finally, we present numerical examples to illustrate settings where environmental taxation and information dissemination can improve social welfare. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

To reach carbon neutrality in the middle of this century, smart controls for building energy systems are urgently required. Model predictive control (MPC) demonstrates great potential in improving the performance of heating ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, whereas its wide application in the building sector is impeded by the considerable manual efforts involved in setting up the control-oriented model. To facilitate the system identification (SI) of the building envelope as well as the configuration of the MPC algorithms with less human intervention, a semantic-assisted control framework is proposed in this paper. We first integrate different data sources required by the MPC algorithms such as the building topology, HVAC systems, sensor data stream and control settings in the form of a knowledge graph and then employ the data to set up the MPC algorithm automatically. Moreover, an event-triggered SI scheme is designed, to ensure the computational efficiency and accuracy of the MPC algorithm simultaneously. The proposed method is validated via simulations. The results demonstrate the practical relevance and effectiveness of the proposed semantics-assisted MPC framework with event-triggered learning of system dynamics. © 2023 *** rights reserved.

The increasing need for simulation-based analysis along the life-cycle of modern process plants introduces new requirements and limitations in the development of simulation models. In the context of modular plants, according to VDI 2776, the distributed knowledge arises as a challenge in enabling system simulations. Co-simulation can enable a provider-independent simulation of chemical processes, but the co-simulation interfaces need further standardization to be efficiently integrated in the modular plant life-cycle. This paper works toward the usability of process models for co-simulation to support standardization efforts and make simulation models more usable and re-usable. To increase the usability of co-simulation in the process industry by working towards a common standard, two co-simulation standards, namely the Functional Mock-Up Interface and the CAPE-OPEN standard, are semantically linked. A use-case for a co-simulation-based operability analysis of a heterogeneous electrolysis plant is presented and necessary model requirements and interfaces are defined. Criteria to assess the compatibility of the model interfaces as a first step of a usability analysis are collected and presented. With the available requirements and interface specifications Functional Mock-Up Units can be created and the shown use-case can be carried out. Challenges regarding the potential integration of varying thermophysical properties have been pointed out and methods to overcome these challenges in the context of usability have been outlined.

The effective takeover of ship control, particularly in complex navigation environments, is of critical importance to the safety and efficiency of shipping. In this context, extending a previous work in which human takeover times for the operation of automated vessels were determined for the first time, this article discusses further details of the problem based mainly on the differences between a simple takeover (as a reaction) and the discussed case of a cognitive-based takeover within a complex dynamic situation. The unsurprising but nevertheless astonishingly long takeover time for the considered example of an automated/assisted inland vessel has consequences in terms of a long preparation time to be considered for takeover situations to be successful. This means that situation-specific, complexity-oriented ship management is necessary to take into account the possible human preparation for the takeover. The contribution introduces into the topic, illustrates the problem based on experimental results and describes a possible strategy to define the required time as preparation time. The analysis is based on a simulator-based experimental study using inland vessels interacting in a highly interactive environment.

The importance of proper data normalization for deep neural networks is well known. However, in continuous-time state-space model estimation, it has been observed that improper normalization of either the hidden state or hidden state derivative of the model estimate, or even of the time interval can lead to numerical and optimization challenges with deep learning based methods. This results in a reduced model quality. In this contribution, we show that these three normalization tasks are inherently coupled. Due to the existence of this coupling, we propose a solution to all three normalization challenges by introducing a normalization constant at the state derivative level. We show that the appropriate choice of the normalization constant is related to the dynamics of the to-be-identified system and we derive multiple methods of obtaining an effective normalization constant. We compare and discuss all the normalization strategies on a benchmark problem based on experimental data from a cascaded tanks system and compare our results with other methods of the identification literature. © 2024, CC BY-SA.

The article presents the concept of a hybrid network topology in the enterprises with the use of a solar power plant and energy storage as well as a drive frequency converter for charging of transportation battery of wheels vehicles and powering of electric caterpillar mining machines. Two important functionalities of the drive frequency converter as a unidirectional EV battery charger and for powering electric motors are presented. The obtained results of the simulation and experimental tests of the presented model confirm the possibility of controlling the DC current value of connected to drive frequency converter of the diode rectifier unit charging the EV battery. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper analyzes two synchronverters connected in parallel to a common capacitive-resistive load through resistive-inductive power lines. This system is conceptualized as a microgrid with two renewable energy sources controlled using the synchronverter algorithm. It is modeled as an interconnection of three port-Hamiltonian systems, and the dq-coordinates model is derived by averaging the frequencies. Applying the recent Leonov function theory, sufficient conditions to guarantee the global boundedness of the whole system’s trajectories are provided. This is necessary to reach the global synchronization of microgrids. Additionally, a numerical example illustrates the potential resonance behavior of the microgrid.

The task of detecting sunflower plants in the field of UAV image to estimate an important agrotechnical parameter - the density of seedlings - is being solved in this work. The networks of YOLOv5 family were used as a detector model. The question of learning the quality in small samples is raised. The best result was obtained by the YOLOv5m network in an augmented sample of 363 photos. When the recognized images are being noised with weeds, the detection quality decreases. On the whole, the YOLOv5m model copes with the task, and further improvement of the detection quality is related to the expansion of the training data corresponding to different growth conditions of sunflower plants. © 2022 IEEE.

Distributed-parameter systems represented by linear one-dimensional 2 × 2 hyperbolic PDEs with nonlinear finite-dimensional differentially flat dynamics at one boundary and control acting linearly via the opposite boundary are considered. Flatness of the overall system, deduced from the flatness of the boundary system, allows for the parametrization of the systems solutions by the trajectory of a flat output. The state associated with this parametrization corresponds to the restriction of the flat-output trajectory to a compact interval. This state is intrinsically linked to a nonlinear hyperbolic controller form and associated with the original system variables by an invertible transformation. Moreover, it allows for immediate and constructive reachability analysis. State feedback for tracking a desired reference trajectory is achieved by choosing arbitrary stable closed-loop dynamics. A numerical example illustrates the control performance for different choices of the closed-loop dynamics.

This paper is devoted to the construction of continuous and periodic controllers for ISS or iISS stabilization of a class of multistable state periodic systems. For this purpose, the concepts of practical ISS-, ISS- and iISS-control Leonov functions are introduced. Then, it is proven that the existence of these functions is a sufficient condition to ensure that the system under study is ISS- or iISS stabilizable, and explicit feedback control laws can be obtained by means of a mild adaptation of Sontag's universal formula. The proposed method is illustrated by the design of an excitation controller for a synchronous generator ensuring ISS of the closed-loop system.
