This research focuses on the study of biocomposite nanoparticles of Eleocharis dulcis (ED) as potentials biosorbent to reduce the concentration of lead (II) ion containing Sasirangan textile industry wastewater. Eleocharis dulcis, locally named as Purun Tikus, has been developing becomes the biocomposites nanomaterial and valuables material in this research. Batch experiments were carried out to considering the kinetic of biosorption of lead onto the adsorbent, evaluating the effects of lead ion equilibrium concentration, equilibrium pH, and temperature on the adsorption of lead (II). Kinetic data of lead (II) biosorption onto EDB and EDB-MH revealed that equilibrium time was reached within 2 h, and the isotherm data showed that the Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity of the EDB-M and EDB-MH at pHe of 6±0.2, room temperature were 150.43 mg/g and 180.92 mg/g, respectively. The thermodynamic of lead (II) biosorption onto the adsorbent implied the biosorption was spontaneous and endothermic indicating by increased in temperature would increased in adsorption capacity. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018.

In order to overcome the disadvantages of conventional method, innovations on how to produce coconut oil were applied with the technique of PENDAWA (Pendayagunaan Asam Jawa). Coconut oil comes from coconut milk which is the substance between oil and water (emulsion). So to get coconut oil, acid is needed as an emulgator to break down emulsifying substances. In this case, Tamarind is used because it is cheap, available, contains a lot of antioxidants, and is efficacious. Coconut oil contains medium chain saturated fatty acids, namely MCT (Medium-chain triglycerides) where MCT provides extraordinary health enhancing properties. We compared three types of coconut oil, namely coconut oil in the traditional way, coconut oil with the addition of tamarind, and packaging oil on the market. The result was coconut oil with the Pendawa method very good in quality and quality with FFA 0.0067% and peroxide number of 1.5 mg ek/kg. In conclusion, this oil production with the PENDAWA method is very effective, efficient, high in quality, and provides high profit for the industry that wants to produce it. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO₂) is a suitable medium for separating phytochemical compounds from various materials. Here, it was employed for crude palm oil (CPO) deacidification to concentrate the β-carotene component. In the semibatch process, SCCO₂ was introduced to CPO feed material at various operating temperatures (40−60 °C) and pressures (15−25 MPa) with a CO₂ flow rate of 3 mL min⁻¹ for 120 min. The results indicate that the extraction yield was significantly affected by varying the operating temperature and/or pressure, and the highest extraction yield was 4.59 % (40 °C, 25 MPa). Under the same operating conditions, the addition of an ethanol entrainer improved the extraction yield to 9.31 %. However, due to the β-carotene enrichment in the raffinate product, the presence of an ethanol solvent in this process introduced challenges. © 2025 The Authors

Citric acid is an organic acid catalyst and content carbon that is templated into silica network. The mixture between these materials is gratefully useful to tailor pore size of silica-carbon mixtures in the form of silica-carbon sols which robust and good hydrostability properties. This fabricated materials is applied for coated membrane layers (thin film) coated onto membrane substrates for water desalination. This study was aimed to utilize sol gel process to synthesize the functionalization of organic catalyst in silica matrices. Silica xerogels was prepared from TEOS (Tetraethyl orthosilicate) with a two-step organic acid and base catalyst via sol gel method. This study presents an investigation of chemical and physical characterization, green process analysis, techno-economic considerations, and carbon emissions for synthesizing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) from plastic and can waste using microwave-assisted synthesis. The microwave-assisted synthesis proves to be more cost-effective, with a reduction in CO₂ emissions by up to 80%. The synthesized material (MIL-Mw-U) demonstrates excellent performance in methylene blue (MB) removal, achieving 98.41% removal, with 97.87% removal although the catalyst is used in the third cycle. The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) onto MIL-Mw-U achieved a maximum capacity of 295.26 mgg⁻¹ at pH 3 and decreased to 258.68 mgg⁻¹ at pH 11 due to OH⁻ competition. The Langmuir isotherm (R² = 0.9381) and pseudo-second-order kinetics (R² = 0.999) confirmed monolayer chemisorption as the dominant mechanism. This innovative approach supports circular economy principles by converting can and plastic bottle waste into functional material for dye removal, offering sustainable solutions for environmental challenges. © 2025 The Authors

Indonesia is the third largest country on the global paddy rice production and also considered as a rice importer. Even, Indonesia has the biggest per capita consumption of paddy rice (140 kg of paddy rice per person per year). Product diversification using local commodities. Artificial rice is potential to be developed as a new value product using different types of grains. It is one of appropriate solutions for reducing imported rice rate. Artificial rice was produced using high nutrition composite flours (modified cassava starch, corn, Canavalian ensiformis, and Dioscorea esculenta). This study consists of three main stages, preparation of composite flour, formulation, and artificial rice production using hot extruder capacity 10 kg/day. The objectives of this studies were to investigate some formulation in compare with commercial paddy rice. Artificial rice has been successfully conducted using prototype of hot extruder with the temperature 95°C. Physical analyses (color and water absorption) were carried out to artificial rice product and commercial paddy rice. chemical analyses (nutrition and amylose content) of product will be also presented in this study. The best formulation of artificial rice was achieved in 80% modified cassava starch, 10% Canavalian ensiformis, and 10% Dioscorea esculenta, respectively. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

The study aims to analyze the effectiveness of wastewater treatment by using Carica papaya seeds as bio coagulants to diminish total suspended solids (TSS) and excess phosphate. This method has some advantages because it does not use chemical materials, is simple to apply, and is safe for the environment and human health. The wastewater samples were taken from an active laundry site in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province of Indonesia. The study found that the best dosage of coagulant was 3 g for the wastewater samples. The pH and BOD parameters showed slight changes after treatment, with pH 7.63–7.19 and 33–27 mg/L values, respectively. The TSS removal efficiency ranged from 9.3 to 15.6%, while the COD and phosphate removals were obtained from 11.7 to 39.3% and 56.3 to 68.4%, respectively. The treated TSS, COD, and phosphate concentrations have met the Indonesian domestic wastewater quality standard and environmental protection organization (EPO) guidelines. Interfacial reactions in the Sn-9.0 wt.% Zn/Cu-Ti alloy (C1990 HP) couple

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of adding a small amount of Ti to a Cu-based alloy, specifically the commercial Hyper Titanium Copper alloy (C1990 HP), which contains Cu-3.28 wt.% Ti, on its interfacial reaction with Sn-9.0 wt.% Zn (SnZn) solder, using the liquid/solid reaction couple technique. Design/methodology/approach: The SnZn/C1990 HP couples were subjected to a reaction temperature of 240–270°C for a duration of 0.5–5 h. The resulting reaction couple was characterized using a scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectrometer, electron probe microanalyzer and X-ray diffractometer. Findings: It was observed that the scallop-shaped CuZn5 and planar Cu5Zn8 phases were formed in almost all SnZn/C1990 HP couples. With increased reaction duration and temperature, the Cu-rich intermetallic compound (IMC)-Cu5Zn8 phase became a dominant IMC formed at the interface. The total thickness of the IMCs was increased with the increase in the reaction duration and temperature. The IMC growth obeyed the parabolic law, and the IMC growth mechanism was diffusion controlled. The activation energy of the SnZn/C1990 HP couple was 64.71 kJ/mol. Originality/value: This article presents an analysis of the IMC thickness in each sample using ImageJ software, followed by kinetic analysis using Origin software at various reaction temperatures of SnZn/C1990 HP in liquid/solid couples. The study also includes detailed reports on the morphology, interface composition and X-ray diffraction analysis, as well as the activation energy. The findings can serve as a valuable reference for electronic packaging companies that utilize C1990 HP substrates. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Electricity is essential for modern society. Coal power plants offer affordable electricity to meet global electricity demand. Understanding the environmental impact of the coal power plants is crucial for minimizing negative consequences. This study presents a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of a subcritical 2 × 100 MW coal power plant using circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. The boundary of LCA was gate-to-gate which covers the following equipment: condenser, heater, boiler and turbine. The LCA was conducted on the primary data from 2022 to mid-2024. Detailed assessments reveal an average coal requirement of ~7×10 –4 tons/kWh and water consumption of 3.6×10 –5 tons/kWh, with the global warming, acidification, eutrophication and ozone depletion potentials of 1.29 kg CO 2 -eq/kWh, 2.21×10 –3 kg SO 2 -eq/kWh, 1.31×10 –2 kg PO 4 -eq/kWh, and 3.04×10⁻⁸ kg-CFC-11 eq /kWh respectively. The LCA identifies the boiler as the primary hotspot of global warming and acidification potentials. The innovative use of CaCO 3 treatment successfully mitigate the acidification potential. Additionally, the ongoing exploration of solar photovoltaics as a potential coal substitute reflects the plant’s commitment to sustainability and proactive energy transition. This study adds to the expanding literature on LCA for coal-fired power plants in Southeast Asia and highlights the critical role of minimizing environmental impacts.

The problem of environmental pollution especially urban water pollution becomes major issue in Indonesia. The cause of water pollution is not only from industrial factory waste disposal but also other causes which become pollution factor. One cause of water pollution is the existence of agricultural activities with the use of the amount of pesticides that exceed the threshold. As regulated in Government Regulation No. 82/2001 on Water Quality Management and Water Pollution Control, it is necessary to manage water quality and control water pollution wisely by taking into account the interests of current and future generations as well as the ecological balance. To overcome the problem of water pollution due to agricultural activities, it is necessary to conduct research on phytoremediation technique by utilizing eceng gondok plant. It is excepted that using this phytoremediation technique can reduce the problem of water pollution due to the use of pesticides on agricultural activities. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.
