Food needs in Indonesia is increasing, including beef. Today, Indonesia has problem to do self-sufficiency in beef. The cause of the problem is the quality of local beef is still lower compared with imported beef due to the quality of livestock feed consumed. To increase the quality of livestock is through pretreatment and fermentation. Source of livestock feed that processed is solid sago waste (Arenga microcarpa), because in Indonesia that is relatively abundant and not used optimally. chemical pretreatment process for delignification is by using NaOH solution. The purposes of this research are to study NaOH pretreatment, the addition of Trichoderma sp, and fermentation time to improve the quality of sago solid waste as livestock feed through anaerobic fermentation. The variables used are addition or without addition (4%w NaOH solution and Trichoderma sp 1%w) and fermentation time (7, 14 and 21 days), with the response of crude fiber and protein. The result of this research shows that the pretreatment with soaking of NaOH solution, addition of Trichoderma sp and 14 days of fermentation was more effective to improve the quality of solid sago waste with decrease of crude fiber from 33.37% to 17.36% and increase of crude protein from 4.00% to 7.96%. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018.

Total dissolved solids (TDS) consisting of inorganic salts and organic matter are pollutants to the aquatic and water systems for human use. This paper studied the effect of ceramic adsorbent composition on improving the quality of the produced water (PW) by decreasing TDS before entering reverse osmosis (RO). Manufacturing ceramic adsorbents use a mixture of spent catalysts of residues catalytic cracking (RCC) and natural clay in various compositions. Experiments were performed using the PW from one oil and gas company in South Sumatra, Indonesia. The initial characterization of produced water contains total dissolved solids of 14,556 mg/L. The flow rate of PW into the ceramic adsorbent column were varied from 6 to 8 L/min at a contact time of 15 to 120 min. The results showed that ceramic adsorbent A (diameter 10 mm and thickness 10 mm, 70% clay, and 30% RCC) reduced TDS by 74.58%. Adsorbent B (diameter of 20 mm and thickness of 10 mm, 70% RCC and 30% clay) lowers TDS by 56.68% at a flow rate of 6 L/min and a contact time of 60 min. Adsorbent C (diameter of 10 mm and thickness of 10 mm, 30% clay, and 70% RCC) reduced TDS by 59.40% at a flow rate of 6 L/min and a flow time of 60 min. Adsorbent D (diameter of 20 mm, thickness of 10 mm, 30% clay, and 70% RCC) lowers TDS by 54.38% at a flow rate of 6 L/ min and a contact time of 60 min. After being transferred into the adsorption column, their filtrates were sent into the Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane. The final permeates of RO have TDS values between 1,720 mg/L to 3,930 mg/L that met water standards for oil and gas exploration wastewater in Indonesia. © 2023 The Authors. All rights reserved.

Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) poses significant environmental challenges to water resource management. This review explores the potential of waste materials in developing nanocomposites for AMD treatment. The study highlights the benefits of using agricultural residues, industrial byproducts, and municipal solid waste as components in nanocomposites. These waste-based nanocomposites offer cost-effectiveness, resource conservation, and transformation of waste into valuable assets. The mechanisms of pollutant removal, recent trends, and advancements in nanocomposites for AMD treatment are discussed. Unlike previous studies, this work provides a pioneering comprehensive assessment of waste-derived nanocomposites, systematically synthesizing state-of-the-art advancements while critically evaluating their practical application and ecological impact. Recommendations for optimizing nanocomposites include material selection, property tailoring, and field implementation. Future research directions are proposed, such as advanced characterization techniques, novel waste material exploration, and ecological impact evaluation. Harnessing waste material potential can promote sustainable water and waste management, restoring AMD-affected environments and protecting water resources.

This study investigated how the addition of hydrophilic TiO2to a porous asymmetric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane altered its properties and performance. The hydrophilicity and flux of PVDF and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) combinations will be lower, and TiO2will significantly impact raising those values. By mixing titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles with a pore-forming agent in a dope solution, PVDF-TiO2-PVP membranes were prepared via non-solvent-induced phase inversion method. Experiments using PVDF membranes with varying concentrations of TiO2(0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2% wt) were applied to evaluate pure water flux and Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) flux. The functional group composition of membranes was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The wettability of porous membranes was determined by measuring contact angles. Results demonstrated that membranes constructed from PVDF/PVP/TiO2with a lower loading of TiO2nanoparticles had a smaller mean pore size, more apertures inside the membrane, and better membrane hydrophilicity. The highest flux of pure water (121 L/m2h) was achieved by the PVDF-TiO2-PVP mixed-matrix membrane at a TiO2concentration of 2 wt%. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

As it starts at the end of the year 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic has already disturbed the condition of human life, socio-culture, and economics globally. As the virus is spreading from human to human, the need for a respirator mask is critical. One very well-known respirator mask is N95. The huge demand and high price of the N95 respirator effect create a bogus mask. This study proposes using blockchain in a global implementation of supply chain management of N95 respirator supply chain activity. Blockchain systems may help to reduce people's worldwide anxiety about the spread of N95 respirator counterfeits. The method used in this research is a systematic literature review and proposing a blockchain framework base on blockchain components. The implementation can use RFID at the level of manufacturers, distributors, and sellers. Using QR code or RFID stickers are possible in the level of customers or buyers. The result of this research is a proposal of blockchain technology for N95 respirator supply chain management systems, N95 respirator supply chain activities workflow, and a use case diagram. © 2021 IEEE.

Nutmeg oil has an important function as natural tropical biomedicine activity which commonly found in Batang region. This essential oil is one of the dominant traditional export product from Batang instead of patchouli oil, Clove oil, and lemongrass oil. The objective of the research was to analyze chemical compound of essential oil of nutmeg leaves from Batang region produced by traditional destillation. Research methods was conducted by GCMS method. The biomedical activity against some tropical diseases was analysed in-silico. The results showed that essential oil from nutmeg leaves showed potential antimicroabial activities in silico againts several tropical diseases in skin. The GCMS result showed 2-.BETA.-PINENE and .gamma.-Terpinene as the major compound with values 34,46% and 30,28%. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Wastewater produced by batik industry in Cibelok Village, Pemalang that is disposed straight into the sewage will increase the concentration of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), ammonia (NH3), chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), watercolour, acidity (pH), and dissolved oxygen (DO). Disposed batik wastewater without treatment will contaminate the environment, mainly its water and soil. The main purpose of this research is to reduce the concentration of chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), ammonia (NH3), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), watercolour, acidity, and dissolved oxygen (DO) by treating batik Cibelok's waste and not contaminate the surrounding environment. Laboratory test results on batik waste in COD, BOD, DO, ammonia, chromium, lead, colour, and acidity (pH). These results are not in accordance with the 2014 Waste Water Quality Standard Number 5 by the Regulation of the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia. Alternatives that have been done to treat Cibelok Village's batik waste is to lower dangerous substances concentration through electrocoagulation and filtration. The processes could lower COD level around 57.6%, ammonia 98%, chromium 85%, and BOD 67%. Reducing the concentration of the substance makes the batik waste safer and environmentally friendly when it's finally disposed to the sewage. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Bioenergy is one of the renewable energies which is predicted to be a main energy in the next few years. It can play the important role to change the current fossil fuel-based energy into a green energy which has a low carbon footprint. A research about how to develop a bioenergy have been done by a lot of reseacher. However, especially in Indonesia, there is just few research to study about bioenergy from societal aspects poin of view such as the understanding and awarness of bioenergy among citizens. In this research, we have investigated senior high school students' knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes interconected to bioenergy with online survery. The survey instrument used in the study was adopted from P. Halder's study. The data was collected from students at senior high school th (SMAN 10) Jambi City. The results showed that the students awareness of bioenergy perceived from school, home, and social media have significant effects on their knowledge, perceptions and attitudes related to bioenergy. Among 211 students as respondent (N), we found 70.62% believe that they understand well the concept about bioenergy, 5.21% believe that they understand it very well, and the rest believe that they do not understand it. This understanding reflects to their willingness to use a bioenergy in their daily life, in which 71.70% respondents agree to use bioenergy, 25.47% respondents can not decide, and only 2.83% do not want to use it. To find the relationship among the variables, a multiple regression was conducted. A statistical analysis showed that the model for knowledge as a function of attitudes and perception does not fit the data therefore this model is rejected. However, both model for attitudes as function of perception and knowledge, and also perception as function of attitudes and knowldeges fit the data hence the models are accepted. Globalization had increased global economic activity, including production, trade and distribution activities in developing countries, especially in Asia. The increasing of trade traffic and cargo transportation in archipelago country like Indonesia, requires the utilization of sea lanes. This study was aimed to present the suitability of ship design to be passengers transportation in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The proposed design should be in accordance with the conditions of Berau which has 6 districts crossed by the river which still lack of transportation facilities. This research proposed an optimal ship design that can be used as a reference for renewable ships in Berau waters. This study produced a watershed design analysis concept as part of the reference and boundary dimensions of the ship. The obtained main size of the ship using linear regression method was total length of 12.5 meters, 3 meters wide, 1.5 meters high, and 0.6 meters full of water. Resistance analysis using the Savitsky method showed the engine capacity of 2x150 pk with a service speed of 25 knots. Maximum speed of 30 knots with a distance of 57.32 mill can be reached with 2 hours service speed and 1 hour 40 minutes at a maximum speed of 30 knots with the resistance value 12.8 kN. The total estimated budget for the production of this ship was Rp 1.773.656.800. This design may be adopted as an integrated reference for the procurement of transportation facilities for passenger ships, especially in the Berau river. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
