To determine the quality of beef, it is usually seen using a flashlight and matching it with a predetermined color standard. However, this method is time consuming and the results are inconsistent due to human visual limitations. This study aims to identify the freshness of beef based on its color characteristics using feature extraction method with HSV and LDA method for identification. The identification process begins with the transformation process from RGB images to L∗a∗b, then image segmentation serves to separate one object from another and image identification uses the LDA method with feature extraction using HSV. The use of color feature extraction with the HSV algorithm to assist in obtaining information from the colors contained in the image for easy identification. Furthermore, the LDA algorithm has a function to obtain the maximum projection to obtain a smaller dimensional space so that the desired patterns can be separated through the boundary line of a linear equation so as to form a certain class or group. Based on the test results using the confusion matrix, it produces a precision value of 80%, recall of 84%, and accuracy of 82%. © 2022 IEEE.

BACKGROUND: Membrane technology makes it more suitable for the treatment of environmental polluted organic wastewater. Membrane fouling is one of the major concerns in commercial membranes. To overcome this issue, photocatalytic nanomaterials are embedded into the membrane to enhance its surface nature and reusability. In this investigation, polydopamine functionalized graphene oxide (PDA-RGO), graphite carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and PDA-RGO/g-C3N4 nanomaterials were incorporated within polyethersulfone membrane fabricated via a phase inversion technique. These as-prepared membranes’ functional groups and surface morphologies were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and field emission electron microscopy (FESEM). These as-prepared membranes were investigated for photocatalytic activity under visible-light-driven photodegradation by environmental pollutants such as Rhodamine B (RhB) and Norfloxacin (NOR). RESULTS: Compared with pristine PES membrane, the PDA-RGO/g-C3N4-PES nanocomposite membrane showed higher photocatalytic activity for Rhodamine B 94.6% and Norfloxacin 96.8%, also reached greater water flux 189 L m−2 h−1. Therefore, the bio-inspired nanocomposite-modified PDA-RGO/g-C3N4 photocatalytic membrane could have huge potential in processing environmentally polluted water. CONCLUSIONS: PDA-RGO/g-C3N4-PES nanocomposite membrane improved the membrane hydrophilicity, water flow, anti-fouling performance, rejection studies and photocatalytic degradation than the pristine membrane. The synergistic result of PDA-RGO and g-C3N4 exhibits better photodegradation efficiency of the membrane towards environmental pollutants. © 2024 Society of chemical Industry (SCI). © 2024 Society of chemical Industry (SCI).

Cataracts are the main factor causing blindness in Indonesia. Traditional diagnostic methods involving clinical examination by an ophthalmologist using a slit-lamp and visual tests have many challenges such as limited resources, time, and medical expertise may not be available in all locations, especially in less developed areas. Utilizing medical image technology is a wise choice because it allows early detection and monitoring of the development of this cataract disease Technology is needed to identify medical images that have valuable information so that early detection or monitoring of cataract development can be carried out. CNN as a part of deep learning has the ability to perform automatic feature extraction so that it can identify eye images. A CNN model for recognizing cataracts in eye images taken directly from Bhayangkara Hospital in Denpasar Bali has been developed in this research. The model developed is equipped with a dropout layer technique to prevent overfitting. The test results show that the CNN developed in this research produces very good performance with an average accuracy level of 92% on public dataset images, and 94% on primary dataset images. Tested using the primary dataset and public dataset, this CNN model shows very good performance because it can correctly identify an average of 94% of eye images in the primary dataset, and 92% of eye images in the public dataset..

In today’s complex global environments, it is highly challenging to achieve effective healthcare management. The critical challenges faced by healthcare management are being met by the revolution of m-health where mobile cloud computing plays a major role. The taxonomy of mobile computing comprises operational aspects, end-user issues, and service quality and mobility management. The use of smartphone technologies and applications has become a highly significant approach to improving healthcare management. Mobile health services such as mobile pathology, mobile neurosurgery, cancer treatment, and behavioral/psychological disorders are gaining significance where smartphone applications are being used. Portability, flexibility, and convenience are major characteristics of mobile computing that have helped patients and doctors to develop better relationships through coordination and communication. The relationship between smartphone technologies and applications and healthcare management can be understood in several broad aspects. This article aims to analyze the current and future implications of these technologies on healthcare and disease management systems.

This study examines Instagram influencers' social media behavior and providing suggestions for increasing engagement and purchase intentions towards endorsed products via post-effectiveness. Several objectives will be raised in this study: (1) determining the effect of content vividness on social media engagement, (2) determining the impact of social media engagement on purchase intentions, (3) determining the effect of content vividness on purchase intentions. This quantitative study utilizes Partial Least Square (PLS) software as a tool to test validity and reliability and SPSS to test the hypothesis and regression model. With the total of 199 valid respondents participating into this study's survey, the result highlights the positive effects of content vividness in enhancing purchase intentions through mediating variable, namely social media engagement. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper aims to explain the process of developing creative strategies for empowering community capabilities and local resources in managing geotourism in the Ijen Geopark development area of the Bondowoso region. The location is in the Ijen District as a depiction area for developing the Ijen Geopark. The perspective used in this study is a resource-based view with valuable, rare, imitable, non-substitutable (VRIN) analysis to identify the effectiveness of the performance of local geotourism resources. The results showed that the daily management of geoparks has collaborated with institutions in rural areas in building sustainable competitive advantages to manage geotourism oriented to VRIN criteria in the delineation area of the development of the Ijen Geopark. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

Foaming agents for fire suppression on peatland were formulated from the saponification product of palm oil fatty acids, namely sodium laurate and potassium palmitate. This study aimed to obtain the best formulation of sodium laurate and potassium palmitate as raw material for foaming agent concentrate through formula selection based on physical parameters foaming ability, foam stability, and surface tension. In addition to obtaining the best formula, foam liquid performance test for the foaming agent was also conducted on the peat fire suppression applications. Formulation of sodium laurate and potassium palmitate that produce the best foaming agent concentrate was 20% sodium laurate, 5.58% potassium palmitate, and 74.42% water, which produced a foaming response of 393.58%, foam stability of 69.59%, and surface tension of 31.11 dyne/cm. Foam performance test for the mixture of water and foaming agent showed that peat fire could be extinguished in 3 h 50 min 42 s using 4.56 L/m2 extinguishing solution. Meanwhile, fire suppression with water requires 5 h 31 min 59 s, with the application of 9.72 L/m2 solution. Water mixed with a foaming agent concentrate can extinguish peat fires faster than using water alone, besides being faster the application of foaming agents can reduce water consumption. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Natural antimicrobial properties of liquid smoke derived from cocoa pod shells in meatball preservation

The liquid smoke, which is produced by pyrolyzing wood materials containing cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, can be used to preserve food. Phenolic, acetic, and carbonyl compounds found in liquid smoke can serve as a natural preservative. This study aimed to determine meatball preservation ability of liquid smoke from cocoa pod shells. Specifically, cocoa pod shells were converted to liquid smoke using slow pyrolysis at three different temperatures, 300 °C, 340 °C and 380 °C. Prior to its use, liquid smoke was purified using distillation at 190 °C. Liquid smoke at concentrations of 0.5%–3.0% was then used to preserve meatballs using an immersion method. Total volatile base-nitrogen (TVB-N), total plate count (TPC), and most probable number (MPN) analyses were used to evaluate preservation performance of liquid smoke. The statistical methods for MPN using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's tests. The SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) threshold to test whether meatballs remained fresh (TVB-N <20 mg N/g). TPC test results indicated that beef meatballs stay fresh at room temperature for 42 h or 48 h of storage using 0.5% or 1%–3% liquid smoke concentrations, respectively. Based on MPN tests showed meatballs could last for 48 h for all samples. Liquid smoke produced from cocoa pod shells can be used as a natural preservative for beef meatballs;however, liquid smoke concentrations influence the maximum preservation period for meatballs. © 2023 The Author(s)

Titanium dioxide with suitable band edges is one of promising photocatalysts for water splitting. Nanotubes with one-dimensional structure can induce efficient charge transfers and hollow centers can provide large surface area for surface reactions. Modifying Ti foils for anodization can enhance light utilization of TiO2 nanotube photoelectrodes. In this work, it is firstly to fabricate TiO2 nanotube photoelectrodes on acid-etched Ti foils by anodization (MNT) for photoelectrochemical catalyzing water splitting. Different acid-etching durations are applied on Ti foils to induce various rugged surfaces. The resulting photoelectrodes present largely enhanced light utilization than that fabricated by the pristine Ti foil. The anodization duration is also optimized to find suitable lengths of MNT. The smallest overpotential of 524.7 mV at 10 mA/cm2 and Tafel slope of 167 mV/dec are obtained for the optimal MNT photoelectrode. The TiO2 nanotubes grown on the pristine Ti foil shows the overpotential of 679.3 mV at 10 mA/cm2 and Tafel slope of 285 mV/dec. This result opens a blueprint for raising the photocatalytic ability by simply modifying the surface property of the conductive substrate. Other modifications may be applicable to enhance the roughness of Ti foils for growing more efficient MNT array as photocatalysis of water splitting. © 2023 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

The development of telematics technology is increasing rapidly and this capability is supported by multimedia devices or even telematics that supports the development of multimedia itself. For instance, in the configuration of telematics with websites to control air traffic with a voice communication system, multimedia applications serve as devices for monitoring the use of this technology. Consider the research trends, this study aims to evaluate the current development and trends of research on telematics and its multimedia applications through bibliometric analysis over the last two decades and a half (1999-2023). Several publication characteristics were analyzed, including the most cited articles in this field. This study uses data from the Scopus database to evaluate the productivity, impact, countries, research institutions, authors, and research performance of journals based on the impact factor, citation counts, and h-index. According to the result, the annual number of publications on this topic fluctuates but tends to increase, with Germany being the most prolific country producing articles in this field. Additionally, the most researched telematics and its multimedia applications and most cited lists offer insight into the future. This is the first study to use bibliometric analysis to evaluate research on telematics and its multimedia applications and is expected to be useful for telematics researchers by identifying potential research directions. In addition, this research serves as a valuable resource for future researchers and practitioners. However, improvements can be made by incorporating additional analysis, such as content analysis. © 2023 IEEE.
