A new scheme for adaptive neural networks for nonlinear dynamic system identification is proposed in this paper. The network of structure multi-layer perceptron with external recurrence is trained offline at first to get the initial network parameters. The parameters of the network are classified into short-term memory part and long-term memory part. The short-term memory part includes the parameters which are linear to the network output. In the implementation, the network is validated in each sampling time using a set of new measurement data. Training procedure will be executed if the model error exceeds a specified value and the short-term memory part will be adjusted. The application in modelling of room thermal behaviour demonstrates the performance of the proposed scheme. © 2013 IEEE.

A stable light intensity level of a classroom can actually be obtained by integrating automatic lamp brightness controller with automatic blind system. A brightness controller of the lamp, especially incandescent type can be developed by adopting the principle of phase firing angle. It should be implemented in such a way so that the firing angle is set precisely to keep the classroom's light intensity stays in a steady level. Next, the opening and closing process of the blind can also be done using stepper motor which will be controlled automatically by a microcontroller through a hardware driver. This is intended to take the advantage of light contribution from the outside instead of directly switching on or brightening the lamp. © 2013 IEEE.

Salinity contamination of brine to natural groundwater affecting from the local salt productions is investigated to assess the distribution of chemical speciation and behaviors related to groundwater flow in Sakon Nakhon Basin, northeast of Thailand. Hydrochemical species are applied to study the variation of chemical stability involved and the source and flow paths of groundwater transporting in salt-dissolution region. Hydraulic head relationship and chemical constituents indicate that groundwater flows from the southern highland to the west-eastern lowland. Groundwater dissolving rock salts and gypsum (or evaporites) flows downward to the lowland following the flow direction influenced by topography, where is located as the salt evaporating fields. Hydrogeological cross-section model is designed for evaluating the salt-dissolution zones depending on the range of the total dissolved solids.

Secondary migration of a petroleum reservoir relates to the petroleum production in the gas production plant of a gas reservoir in the northeast of Thailand. Petroleum migration affects to buoyancy and capillary force with emphasis upon the relationship between condensate and other fluid hydrocarbons. Dynamic migration of petroleum is calculated within a gas reservoir. Pore-throat radius of mudstone is varied in the range of 0.55 to 2.10 μm, and the throat radius of carbonate reservoir rocks is in the variety of 0.49 to 8.65 μm. The capillary pressures and column height are decreasing inversely proportional to the throat radius. Petroleum migration with small throat radius resists the fluid migration in the column due to low buoyancy to generate its movement. The defined criteria for carbonate rocks can correlate to the reservoir rocks and also geological barriers. This outcome is able to conclude for the criteria that the throat radius should be more than 7.65 μm and column height for capillary pressure is less than 9.39 meters. Therefore, this secondary migration is appropriate for the petroleum reservoirs.

Reactivity of Palm Fatty Acids for the Non-catalytic Esterification in a Bubble Column Reactor at Atmospheric Pressure

A bubble column reactor has been developed to produce fatty acids methyl esters by blowing superheated methanol continuously into triglycerides or fatty acids without using any catalysts at atmospheric pressure. In this paper, reactivity of variety fatty acids in non-catalytic methyl esterification using a bubble column reactor was investigated. Five kinds of fatty acids in palm oil (palm fatty acids), namely myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid were used as substrates. The reactivity of palm fatty acids was studied at 533 K in a semi-batch reactor system to produce variety of fatty acid methyl esters namely methyl myristate, methyl palmitate, methyl stearate, methyl oleate and methyl linoleate. The initial mass of fatty acid in the reactor was 200 g. The reaction started by blowing superheated methanol vapour continuously into the reactor at 4 g/min of methanol. After 60 min of reaction time, conversion of myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid at 523 K was 29, 38, 43, 48 and 47 (% mol/mol), respectively. While, the pseudo first order rate constant ( k ’) of myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid was 0.0065, 0.0080, 0.0081, 0.0090 and 0.0095 min -1 , respectively. In methyl esterification of palm fatty acids, reactivity of saturated fatty acids (myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid) is lower than unsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid and linoleic acid), meanwhile in the saturated fatty acids, reactivity increased with the length of fatty acids alkyl chains.

Process optimization for treatment of methyltin mercaptide effluents using modified semi-coke

The central composite process optimization was performed by response surface methodology technique using a design for the treatment of methyltin mercaptide with modified semi-coke. The semi-coke from the coal industry was suitably modified by treating it with phosphoric acid, with a thermal activation process. The objective of the process optimization is to reduce the chemical oxygen demand （COD） and NH4＋-N in the methyltin mercaptide industrial effluent. The process variables considered for process optimization are the semi-coke dosage, adsorption time and effluent pH. The optimized process conditions are identified to be a semi-coke dosage of 80 g/L, adsorption time of 90 min and a pH value of 8.34. The ANOVA results indicate that the adsorbent dosage and pH are the significant parameters, while the adsorption time is insignificant, possibly owing to the large range of adsorption time chosen. The textural characteristics of modified semi-coke were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption isotherm. The average BET surface area of modified semi-coke is estimated to be 915 mE/g, with the average pore volume of 0.71 cm3/g and a average pore diameter of 3.09 nm, with micropore volume contributing to 52.36%.

Technological developments change the way of life of all people in interacting with each other, regardless of distance and time. One such interaction is the activity of the exchange of information through communication networks, which are either one-way or two-way with a variety of information, such as voices, images, and data, with the desire to have a fast and reliable delivery. If G(V, E) represents a graph or a network with a number of nodes, V = n, and the number of links, E = e, then assume the nodes are reliable and the links can fail. We investigate new parameter of connectivity called 'k-component order edge-connectivity' or 'component order edge-connectivity', denoted by λ (k)c, in which within each type of topology is then compared such as in the topology of path, cycle, star, complete, and wheel networks, then choose the best selection in vulnerability and economic point of views. © 2013 IEEE.

This research aimed to compare the physico-chemical properties of the same metal M (M = iron, cobalt, nickel) supported on aluminas with different morphology and pore size as Fischer-Tropsch catalyst. The aluminas applied as support were alumina synthesized through hydrothermal process, alumina formed by pretreatment of catapal and commercial alumina which named as Ahy, Aca, and Aco respectively. Ahy has uniform morphology of nanotubes while Aca and Aco showed non-uniform morphology of particle lumps. The particle lumps of Aca were larger than those of Aco. Ahy, Aca, and Aco respectively has average pore diameter of 2.75, 2.86 and 2.9 nm. Metals were deposited on the supports by incipient-wetness impregnation method. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, H2-TPR, and H2 chemisorption. Catalyst acitivity test for Fischer-Tropsch reaction was carried out in a micro reactor at 200 °C and 1 atm, and molar ratio of H2/CO = 2:1. The metal oxide particle size increased in the order M/Aco < M/Aca < M/Ahy. The catalysts reducibility also increased according to the order M/Aco < M/Aca < M/Ahy suggesting that the larger metal oxide particles are more reducible. The number of active site was not proportional to the reducibility because during the reduction, larger metal oxide particles were converted into larger metal particles. On the other hand, the number of active sites was inversely proportional to the particle sizes. The number of active site increased in the order M/Ahy < M/Aco < M/Aca. The catalytic activity also increased in the following order M/Ahy < M/Aco < M/Aca. The activity per active site increased according to the order M/Aca < M/Aco < M/Ahy meaning that for M/Ahy, a little increase in active site will lead to a significance increase in catalytic activity. It showed that Ahy has potential for the better support.

West Papua region has fairly high of seismicity activities due to tectonic setting and many inland faults. In addition, the region has a unique and complex tectonic conditions and this situation lead to high potency of seismic hazard in the region. The precise earthquake hypocenter location is very important, which could provide high quality of earthquake parameter information and the subsurface structure in this region to the society. We conducted 1-D P-wave velocity using earthquake data catalog from BMKG for April, 2009 up to March, 2014 around West Papua region. The obtained 1-D seismic velocity then was used as input for improving hypocenter location using double-difference method. The relocated hypocenter location shows fairly clearly the pattern of intraslab earthquake beneath New Guinea Trench (NGT). The relocated hypocenters related to the inland fault are also observed more focus in location around the fault.

Delivering therapeutics deep into damaged tissue during bleeding is challenging because of the outward flow of blood. When coagulants cannot reach and clot blood at its source, uncontrolled bleeding can occur and increase surgical complications and fatalities. Self-propelling particles have been proposed as a strategy for transporting agents upstream through blood. Many nanoparticle and microparticle systems exhibiting autonomous or collective movement have been developed, but propulsion has not been used successfully in blood or used in vivo to transport therapeutics. We show that simple gas-generating microparticles consisting of carbonate and tranexamic acid traveled through aqueous solutions at velocities of up to 1.5 cm/s and delivered therapeutics millimeters into the vasculature of wounds. The particles transported themselves through a combination of lateral propulsion, buoyant rise, and convection. When loaded with active thrombin, these particles worked effectively as a hemostatic agent and halted severe hemorrhage in multiple animal models of intraoperative and traumatic bleeding. Many medical applications have been suggested for self-propelling particles, and the findings of this study show that the active self-fueled transport of particles can function in vivo to enhance drug delivery. 2015 © The Authors, some rights reserved;exclusive licensee American Association for the Advancement of Science.
