This study investigates the effectiveness of dragon blood resin (DBR) as a hydrophilic additive to prevent fouling on membrane surfaces. The input parameters, including DBR, Fe³⁺, NMP concentration, and coating time were studied to understand their correlation with response variables, such as permeability, selectivity, and fouling recovery. A central composite design (CCD) to analyze the twenty-one sets of experimental designs. The selected membrane was characterized for hydrophilicity, functional group, morphology, and mechanical properties. The ANOVA result indicates that the p-value for all response models is significant, except for humic acid rejection. The study found that a higher concentration of DBR and NMP, as well as a longer coating time, result in lower permeability, greater humic acid rejection, and higher contact angle, while Fe³⁺ concentration does not have a significant effect. The membrane's surface characteristics did not change significantly after coating, such as chemical function and morphology, while the tensile strength decreased with increasing DBR concentration, NMP, and coating time. The membranes demonstrated good selectivity and antifouling properties, with the optimal condition being 0.223 mg/L DBR, 5 min coating time, 1.65 mg/L Fe³⁺, and 46.19% NMP, resulting in 30.34 L/m².*** of humic acid permeability and 119.6% of fouling recovery. © 2023 The Author(s)

The role of Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) is critical to maintain cost-efficient in smart grids, as the predictive maintenance means for ensuring their reliability. Java Bali grid is the most important power network in Indonesia, because it holds 75% energy sales and the foundation of the Indonesian government, business and industrial sectors. One method for prediction in the machine learning is the Linear Regression, as part of the Supervised Learning technique. The regression model extracts the grid overload variable from MV distribution system, where connected load (MVA) divided by the number of MV customers. The model constructs the Linear Regression function, where the slope and intercept values found from the correlation between predicted response and actual response. After confronting the function f(x) and the coefficient of determination (R2), the test results for the MTTF prediction values for Java-Bali’s region shows the higher accuracy when the R2 shows highest value.

Aluminium in water treatment sludge can be recovered as coagulants by acidification method. However, there are some factors that affect efficiency in recovering aluminium, such as stirring speed during acidification, pH, and sludge characteristic. This study aims to find the optimum acidification stirring speed in recovering alum and to evaluate the performance of recovered coagulant compared to a pure coagulant. Aluminium recovery is carried out by adding sulphuric acid until the pH of the sludge reaches 2.5. The acidic sludge is stirred for 30 minutes, with acidification stirring speed is varied from 240-720 rpm, and left for settling until the supernatant is formed. The supernatant was used as a recovered coagulant, examined using a jar test to determine the optimum dose, and compared with the pure coagulant. The results show that the optimum acidification stirring speed was obtained at 540 rpm, where mass balance shows aluminium recovery efficiency of 16.5%. The optimum dose for recovered coagulant was 25 ppm, with a turbidity reduction of 93.38% in jar test. While the optimum dose for pure alum was 20 ppm, with turbidity reduction of 93.26%. Though potentially reduced higher turbidity, the recovered coagulant has slightly lower quality than the pure coagulant, which required a higher optimum dose. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

This research aims to analyze the effect of ozone exposure time and lard mixture on the polarization angle of transmission of olive oil. The study uses a transmission polarization method with a laser (λ = 532 nm) as a light source. The research sample in the form of olive oil mixed with lard at a concentration of 10, 20, 40, and 80%, with an ozone exposure time of 0-30 minutes. The sample is subjected to external electric fields with variations from 0-4.5 x 102 kV/m to increase the change's polarization angle. The results showed that the change in polarization angle would change linearly with the increase in lard concentration with olive oil. Olive oil with a low concentration of lard (10%) experienced an increase in the change in polarization angle with a value of 0.31 due to the effect of 90 minutes of ozone exposure. In general, the results of the study showed that increased concentrations of lard, ozone exposure time, electric field strengths caused an increase in changes in the polarization angle in a mixture of olive oil and lard. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Cooling effectiveness using a cooling fan on an electronic device becomes a benchmark. Speaker- based synthetic jets that are becoming innovations today work on the principle of zero input mass, producing air in the cavity with an oscillating membrane which results in the suction phase occurring in the orifice hole. The generated air then flows through the orifice to pound the heat source as a forced convection cooler. Speakers used as oscillating actuators resemble waveforms using sine, square, and triangular wave functions with frequencies of 80, 100, and 120 Hz. Air flow simulation created using Fluent CFD. The use of wave variations has different characteristics. Triangular waves indicate the final test temperature reaches 27oC, with an optimum frequency of 80 Hz. Air flow created in the form of vortex flow with a type of turbulent flow. The electric power consumption of cooling fans reaches ten times the consumption of synthetic jet power. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

The research objective of this is to see how to apply science practicum online using Microsoft Teams and Learning Management System (LMS). The form of this research is classroom action research which aims to apply the online science practicum during the Covid 19 pandemic. Therefore, it is carried out using two cycles in the application of online science practicum. The subjects of this study were students of the seventh semester in the Natural Science practicum course. Through observation and evaluation, it is shown that in the cycle I the percentage of practicum implementation which includes aspects of preparation, process and data and practicum results is 87.5%, in cycle II it has increased to 92.5%. In the assessment aspect of the practicum report, the average practicum assessment obtained in the first cycle was 3.09 from the highest score of 4 and in the second cycle was 3.7, while the aspect of student knowledge about the use of the Microsoft team which was taken using google form was 93%. In the aspect of student knowledge about the use of Learning Management System (LMS) by 75% and aspects of student understanding in the implementation of online science practicum using Microsoft Teams by 75%. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. Distillation is the most extensively used in separation process of the chemical industry. Relationships between non-linear variables, multivariable interactions, dynamic system properties, and other irregularities render the study of design simulation and process optimization an interesting challenge for process engineers. The objective of the process optimization is to produce the most economical to conduct the system. This paper discusses the process engineering strategy started from the determination method of the degree of freedom, design variables, process tools, economic parameters, and the optimization process. The distillation variable optimized in this study was limited to reflux ratio. The optimum variable was construed from the reflux ratio producing the lowest total annual cost (TAC). Furthermore, it was analyzed the energy cost as optimization parameter in the total annual cost (TAC) calculation method to obtain minimum reflux ratio in distillation unit. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2020.

Nano-fillers integrated into mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) present promising alternatives for organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN). In this work, our objective is to enhance OSN performance by incorporating terephthalate metal-organic frameworks (M-BDC, where M = Zr or Cu) into a P84 matrix to fabricate M-BDC/P84 composite MMMs. This work focuses on the influence of metal cluster variation on particle size, pore size distribution, and specific surface area of M-BDC, while systematically investigating the impact of M-BDC addition on OSN performance and underlying separation mechanisms. The synthesized membranes underwent comprehensive characterization using SEM, XRD, ATR-FTIR, contact angle, zeta potential, and thermogravimetric analysis. Significantly, all MMMs exhibited superior permeance and methyl blue (MB) rejection compared to P84 membranes. This enhancement is attributed to the improved interfacial contact between M-BDC and P84, as well as their effective dispersion within the membrane matrix. Interestingly, comparative analysis between Cu-BDC/P84 and Zr-BDC/P84 MMMs revealed the latter's superior permeance, attributed to its larger pore size and surface area. The resulting MMMs demonstrated outstanding MB rejection (>96.7%) with ethanol permeance of 21.5 and 19.0 LMH/Bar for Zr-BDC/P84 and Cu-BDC/P84 MMMs, respectively. Furthermore, the stable performance of M-BDC-based MMMs during prolonged MB/ethanol operation underscores their potential significance in the field of OSN, providing valuable insights for future membrane design and application. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Companies that are ready to compete must have effective management. To improve employee performance in effective management, it is necessary to support competent and competent employees in their fields. Employees who have an attitude of struggle, dedication, discipline, and professional ability are very likely to have work performance in carrying out their duties so that they are more efficient and effective. To increase employee morale, the Company will reward the best employees and be loyal to the company. This is done as an appreciation for what the employee has done for the company in achieving the company's targets. Decision making to determine the best employees can be done by the company by assessing the performance that has been done by its employees within a certain period of time. Employee performance appraisal is influenced by several criteria, namely attitude, attendance, performance and Service Period. The decision support system for selecting the best employees uses the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, where the decision-making process is carried out by assessing alternative choices based on predetermined criteria and can also help the Company to make the best employee decisions. The alternative matrix calculation yields a score of 25.1% for Safrizal, 25.8% for Dedek Rizky, 25.1% for Amira Syakira and 24.0% for Reni Kumala, and the employee who is recommended as the best employee is the employee with the highest score, namely Dedek Rizky with a score of 25.8%. © 2021 IEEE.

Selective H2S Absorption Using the Mixture of NaOH-NaHCO3-Na2CO3 Buffer Solvent Solution

Acid gas enrichment unit (AGEU) involves selective separation of H2S from acid gas mixture, for example using absorption with an NaOH solvent solution. Sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) buffer addition to NaOH solution suppresses CO2 absorption, thereby increasing the selectivity of H2S absorption. This study evaluated the effect of buffer addition to increase H2S absorption selectivity using an NaOH solution. It was shown that both buffer addition and L/G ratio decrease could increase H2S selectivity by limiting CO2 absorption. Based on the simulation results, in the 0.006 to 0.030 L/G ratio range and NaOH solvent concentration greater than 2%-mass, the addition of NaHCO3 with mass ratio greater than 1.5:1 to NaOH and the addition of Na2CO3 at 1.26 times NaHCO3’s mass increased H2S absorption selectivity up to 17.3%. The combination of an L/G ratio of 0.006 and solvent with a composition of 5%-mass NaOH, 15%-mass NaHCO3, and 18.9%-mass Na2CO3 produced the highest H2S selectivity of 23.1 (379.7% H2S selectivity increase). © 2022 Published by ITB Institute for Research and Community Services.
