Growth and carrageenan content of red algae, Kappahycus alvarezii (doty) doty different varieties farming using different methods and different habitats in Bolok waters, Kupang Regency

Red algae (Rhodophyceae) Kappaphycus alvarezii is a species of macroalgae/seaweed that produces kappa-carrageenan which is intensively used in many industries. K. alvarezii is currently a leading commodity in the province of NTT because it makes a significant contribution to the income of the community and the region. The growth and content of carrageenan are strongly influenced by environmental conditions, especially related to farming habitat. The aimed of the study were to analyze the growth and carrageenan content of K. alvarezii different varieties cultured using different method and different habitat. For growth data, samples were taken every 7 days for 49 days (7 weeks), for each variety, method, and habitat. Sampling was carried out with 3 (three) replications for each treatment, by taking as many as 15 bonds at random. The initial weight of the seeds used was 100 gr. For carrageenan content, dry samples were taken at random from the 49-day-old K. alvarezii harvested. Each treatment (variety, method, and habitat) was taken with 3 (three) replicates at random. The results showed that for growth, varieties of Sacol Semau and Tissue culture Rote gave better specific growth compared to the other. The plants farmed using the longline method in the sand habitat gave better growth. for carrageenan, the Tambalang green variety from tissue culture from Semau gave the highest value, namely 56.71%. longline method. For different habitats, K. alvarezii cultivated in sand habitats gave higher carrageenan content (an average of 55.15%) than in seagrass habitats. The ANOVA results showed that in terms of growth, K. alvarezii cultivated in sand habitat showed higher very significantly different (p≤0.05; p≤0.01), compared to the one with seagrass habitat; while in terms of carrageenan contents, the interaction between different varieties cultivated with different methods and habitats showed no significant effect (p≤0.05; p≤0.01).

An e-Commerce company has been using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for several years, but is still constrained in its implementation, this is reflected in the number of issue/change request tickets submitted by users who have not been able to reach ideal conditions. To overcome this problem, we need an appropriate reference model, the ERP system user acceptance model in companies. The study conducted factors that influence the level of acceptance of SAP ERP users in the XYZ group to then determine a model that is able to explain practically the level of ERP system user acceptance, which in turn can produce concrete proposals to increase ERP system user acceptance. Research is quantitative descriptive using factor analysis and regression analysis methods. The research method uses a questionnaire with a total of 107 valid respondents coming from 8 company names under the XYZ group in 6 Southeast Asian countries. The conclusion of the study is that there are 24 indicators and 4 factors that influence user acceptance of the SAP ERP system. These four factors are the low contribution of the ERP system, the quality of ERP systems and data, the development of ERP systems, and also the low quality of ERP system supporters. It is hoped that by optimizing the value of the 4 factors, the XYZ group can increase user acceptance of the SAP ERP system so that the system can provide benefits expected by the company to be competitive advantage. © 2021 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

To date, the high cost of organic linkers and the energy-consuming synthesis processes remain two of the main challenges for the commercialization of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Herein, we demonstrate that polyethylene terephthalate (PET)-derived bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) is a new linker source that enables the facile solvent-free and hydrothermal synthesis of BDC-based MOFs. Using BHET as a linker source, UiO-66(Zr) was rapidly synthesized via a solvent-free "grind and bake" technique, while Ca-BDC and Ba-BDC were easily obtained by using hydrothermal synthesis. We found that the hydrolysis of BHET to terephthalate anion (BDC2−) over proton produced from the hydrolysis/clustering of Zr precursor and hydroxyl anion produced from the dissolution of M(OH)2 (M = Ca or Ba) was the key to the crystal growth of solvent-free synthesized UiO-66(Zr) and hydrothermally synthesized M-BDC (M = Ca or Ba), respectively. While the as-synthesized UiO-66(Zr) was highly active for the esterification of lactic acid (LA) with ethanol (EtOH), Ca-BDC and Ba-BDC exhibited remarkable electrochemical performance for lithium storage. Our strategy provides a major step towards realizing the idea of a more facile, green, and low-cost synthesis of PET-derived MOFs compared to prior arts applicable for catalysis and energy applications. © 2024

Rapid and non-destructive measurements to determine the amount of certain compounds in products such as fresh red chilies are still challenging today. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop a fast and non-destructive calibration model of fresh red chilies for the content of acetic acid, flavonoid, and capsaicin using a combination of visible near-infrared spectroscopy (Vis-NIR) descriptors in the range 380–1065 nm and machine learning regressors including random forest (RF), Ridge, decision tree (DT) and their stacking ensemble learning (SEL). The best calibration model to predict the content of acetic acid and flavonoid compounds is to use SEL, and capsaicin is to use DT. Thus, the proposed model can effectively predict the compound content in fresh red chilies and may have important applications in helping researchers and practitioners assess its quality non-subjectively and non-invasively. © 2024 The Authors

Aerogel nanoparticles which originated from organic silica in bagasse ash are unique because the silanol groups present on the silica surface can be replaced with other functional groups according to the application. Another uniqueness of the aerogel nanoparticles is the large surface area and pore structure, thus making the aerogel suitable as a sensory material. The combination of the ability to adsorb and the addition of electromagnetic properties can make this material useful as a sensor. In this research, we focused on the optimization of the synthesis of aerogel-based sensors by doping nickel (Ni) nanoparticles to create a highly sensitive and selective sensor material. The synthesis of aerogel nanoparticles was carried out using ambient pressure and alkaline extraction under atmospheric conditions. The aerogel was doped by replacing the silanol group (Si-OH) with Ni. The synthesized Ni-doped aerogel possesses a combination of microporous, mesoporous, and macroporous structures which contributed to its high pore density, pore volume, and surface area. The Ni-doping provides an electromagnetic effect that enhanced the sensory properties on the surface of the aerogel. The findings suggest that the Ni-doped aerogel is a promising material for a sensor application.

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease caused by low dopamine levels in the brain. This study aims to obtain the optimum condition for M. pruriens extract nanoencapsulation in nano starch (NS-MPn) and nanostarch-maltodextrin (NS-MD-MPn), nanocapsules characteristics, and their potential as anti-Parkinsonian drug. The nanoencapsulation process was carried out by ultrasonic method. FTIR, SEM, and TEM carried out the characterization of NS-MPn and NS-MD-MPn nanocapsules. Encapsulation efficiency was evaluated by UV-Vis spectroscopy. SEM and TEM characterization NS-MPn and NS-MD-MPn nanocapsules have non-spherical surface morphology, spherical in shape 234.98 and 90.85 nm, respectively. NS-MPn have 21.35% encapsulation efficiency, meanwhile, NS-MD-MPn has 30.02%. © 2023 The Authors

Low water solubility leading to poor bioavailability has an impact on the decreasing of curcumin uptake in the body, resulting in a deficiency of its medicinal benefits. This study aims to overcome the limitations of curcumin by formulating a nano-emulsion called curcumin emulsion (CE). Furthermore, in order to improve the physicochemical properties and drug release features, the CE was encapsulated within chitosan-assembled mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Chi@SiO2@CE). This material was prepared using a one-pot method and was characterized by ATR-FTIR, PSA, TGA, N2 adsorption-desorption, SEM, and TEM. Additionally, antioxidant activity and in vitro drug release were also conducted. The study demonstrated that CE has strong antioxidant activity (IC50 = 14.14 µM) compared to curcumin alone. Additionally, the Chi@SiO2@CE exhibited pH-controlled release behavior, with less than 20% release of curcumin under an artificial gastric environment and 50% release under pH 7.4 conditions within 24 hours. Therefore, this research suggest that Chi@SiO2@CE material has potential as a pH-responsive drug delivery material. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Recently, Intention to accelerate SGDs achievement and also mitigate climate change impact concerning to regional health, increasing significantly. One of the regional health issues for those is concerning to impcat of plastic waste. Event though plastic is one of the principal materials in the regional market and industry, but then plastic waste arise to be principal problem for regional environmental health indicators since they linked living from land to coastal and to oceans. Many tons of plastic from land accounted enter to costal and or ocean then attack to all living thinks. Moreover they may be able to return to the land as microplastic consumed by fish. Today, quick respond to manage plastic waste have a high assosiation with effort to manage green food cycle as of covering basic regional food and cereal cycle. This study goal is to provide basic model for regional plastic waste degree monitoring. The model is developed by using "online" population data from regional statistical data and number of public market. GIS tools is used to degree of plastic waste in spatial map. For detail, Central Java Provice was then selected for model assessment. To monitor the plastic waste generation in spatial pattern, online data population for year 1990, 2000, 2010, 2018 and number of traditional market was utilized. The study calculated that the highest degree of plastic waste generation with population-base approach for year 2018 is located in Brebes Regency with estimated 161.53 Ton per day. Semarang city contributed 160.04 Ton per day and total plastic waste generation in Central Java is estimated 3, 090.38. According to the public market location, this study founded that Surakarta, Semarang, Pekalongan and Tegal clasify as high degree of plastic waste ggeneration. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

This work reports the properties of composite films based on biodegradable poly (lactic acid) (PLA) incorporated with nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) and nanocrystalline cellulose coated with zinc oxide (NCC-ZnO). The NCC was prepared from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) by an acidolysis technique, and subsequently used as a supporting core for ZnO deposition via a hydrothermal process. The NCC and NCC-ZnO were characterized by various techniques, i.e., TEM, SEM, FTIR, XRD, and TGA. The results confirmed the successful fabrication of the NCC-ZnO, with approximately 41% weight of ZnO coated on the NCC surface. Both NCC and NCC-ZnO were later incorporated into PLA at various contents, and their properties, i.e., tensile properties, ultraviolet (UV) shielding efficacy, and antibacterial activity, were investigated. Compared with NCC, NCC-ZnO exhibited higher reinforcement because it provided greater tensile strength and Young’s modulus at the same filler content. The addition of NCC-ZnO significantly improved the UV shielding efficacy (both UV-A and UV-B) and the antibacterial activity. The results reveal the potential of using NCC-ZnO as an alternative filler in active food packaging applications for enhanced performance. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
