Organizational resilience is about combination of operational and strategic resilience to sustain company's performance. In the time of turbulence like COVID-19 pandemic era, this resilience is extremely needed for any organizations not only to bounce back from its disruption but also ensures its sustained performance. However, knowledge related to this ability is still lacking and developing to cover especially factors needed to develop resilience for organization. Thus, this paper is proposing an organizational resilience model that covers what factors known so far. For this research, 100 organizations were invited for the research using questionnaires as its instrument. Among these invited organizations, only 47 organizations have given their responses at rate of 47%. Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method using SmartPLS 3.0 was utilized for data processing. This confirms that organization should promote its resilience through operational dan strategic resilience to sustain its performance especially in times of turbulence especially during COVID-19 pandemic era. © 2022 IEEE.

Total dissolved solids (TDS) consisting of inorganic salts and organic matter are pollutants to the aquatic and water systems for human use. This paper studied the effect of ceramic adsorbent composition on improving the quality of the produced water (PW) by decreasing TDS before entering reverse osmosis (RO). Manufacturing ceramic adsorbents use a mixture of spent catalysts of residues catalytic cracking (RCC) and natural clay in various compositions. Experiments were performed using the PW from one oil and gas company in South Sumatra, Indonesia. The initial characterization of produced water contains total dissolved solids of 14,556 mg/L. The flow rate of PW into the ceramic adsorbent column were varied from 6 to 8 L/min at a contact time of 15 to 120 min. The results showed that ceramic adsorbent A (diameter 10 mm and thickness 10 mm, 70% clay, and 30% RCC) reduced TDS by 74.58%. Adsorbent B (diameter of 20 mm and thickness of 10 mm, 70% RCC and 30% clay) lowers TDS by 56.68% at a flow rate of 6 L/min and a contact time of 60 min. Adsorbent C (diameter of 10 mm and thickness of 10 mm, 30% clay, and 70% RCC) reduced TDS by 59.40% at a flow rate of 6 L/min and a flow time of 60 min. Adsorbent D (diameter of 20 mm, thickness of 10 mm, 30% clay, and 70% RCC) lowers TDS by 54.38% at a flow rate of 6 L/ min and a contact time of 60 min. After being transferred into the adsorption column, their filtrates were sent into the Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane. The final permeates of RO have TDS values between 1,720 mg/L to 3,930 mg/L that met water standards for oil and gas exploration wastewater in Indonesia. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Polymer technology has rapidly advanced across diverse domains, particularly in biomedical applications. Among various polymers, polyurethane (PU) hold great potential in developing biomaterials such as biomedical scaffold and drug delivery. In this study, we have innovatively engineered eco-friendly polyurethane using lignin, a sustainable bio-polyol derived from oil palm empty fruit bunches. To enhance the physicochemical properties of the PU, we have incorporated hydroxyapatite (HA) into the composites. The inclusion of HA has led to notable improvements in crucial properties such as density, porosity, and water absorption, making these composites ideal candidates for tissue regeneration scaffolds. Furthermore, to assess their biomedical applicability in drug delivery and cell scaffolding, we have employed the quercetin drug model. The results revealed a sustained kinetic release behavior within the polyurethane/hydroxyapatite (PU/HA) composites, showcasing their potential for controlled drug delivery applications. Moreover, cytotoxicity assays conducted using neuro-2a cell models demonstrated the non-cytotoxic nature of both PU and PU/HA composites. This finding holds significant implications for biomedical applications, indicating that these composites offer biocompatible platforms for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine endeavors. The ability of these composites to support cell viability underscores their potential for a wide range of biomedical applications, including neural tissue engineering and drug delivery systems targeting brain diseases. These findings pave the way for the development of innovative and sustainable biomaterials with diverse biomedical applications. This study investigated how the addition of hydrophilic TiO2to a porous asymmetric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane altered its properties and performance. The hydrophilicity and flux of PVDF and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) combinations will be lower, and TiO2will significantly impact raising those values. By mixing titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles with a pore-forming agent in a dope solution, PVDF-TiO2-PVP membranes were prepared via non-solvent-induced phase inversion method. Experiments using PVDF membranes with varying concentrations of TiO2(0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2% wt) were applied to evaluate pure water flux and Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) flux. The functional group composition of membranes was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The wettability of porous membranes was determined by measuring contact angles. Results demonstrated that membranes constructed from PVDF/PVP/TiO2with a lower loading of TiO2nanoparticles had a smaller mean pore size, more apertures inside the membrane, and better membrane hydrophilicity. The highest flux of pure water (121 L/m2h) was achieved by the PVDF-TiO2-PVP mixed-matrix membrane at a TiO2concentration of 2 wt%. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The study of solid fuel combustion characteristics is still continuing due to increases in demand of clean and renewable source of energy. Agricultural waste such as coffee pulp is an alternative source of biomass which has not optimally been utilized. The aim of this study is to examine the characteristics of the solid fuel combustion of densified coffee pulp biochar in a purposely built furnace. Initially, a simple mechanical design of combustion test furnace was prepared equipped with data logger for measuring weight lost and temperature changes. As main testing fuel, arabica coffee pulp was pyrolyzed and densified by adding starch binder. For comparison, locally available commercial coconut briquette and young brown coal were also tested under similar condition. The weight of each fuel sample was ≤ 50 g. Based on combustion test results, required time for ignition of coffee pulp and coconut briquettes was 2 min, and it took 5 min for coal. The combustion rate of densified coffee pulp biochar, coconut briquette, and coal was 0.5 g/min, 0.59 g/min, and 0.23 g/min, respectively. The maximum combustion temperature of 480 °C at 35 min, 375.9 °C at 45 min, and 487 °C coal at 140 min was observed during the combustion test of densified coffee pulp biochar, coconut briquette, and coal, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Sugarcane bagasse is a biomass with very potential, especially in agricultural countries. In this research, a study related to pretreatment and the ratio of C/N to biogas production from sugarcane bagasse was conducted. The study was carried out on a laboratory scale with physical pretreatment by grinding with a size of 6 mesh, then biological pretreatment with the microbial consortium 5 % g/V, and variations in the C/N ratio at 25 and 30. Cow rumen fluid was used in this study as a source of anaerobic bacteria and technical urea is used to adjust the C/N ratio. The solid total is set at 7 %. Based on research that has been carried out for 60 days, it was found that physical pretreatment by grinding with a size of 6 mesh can increase biogas production. Biogas production increased both at C/N ratio conditions of 25 and 30. Furthermore, biological pretreatment with the microbial consortium 5 % g/V was proven to increase biogas production at both C/N ratios of 25 and 30. Further studies on the C/N ratio, it was found that the C/N ratio of 25 was better than the C/N ratio of 30. This is evident in several variables, including raw and fine substrate conditions, as well as on variables with or without a microbial consortium, with the amount of biogas productivity at a C/N 25 ratio of 53-90.5 % higher than the C/N 30 ratio. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. In this study, silica extraction from RHA (rice husk ash) has been successfully performed by alkaline using KOH and NaOH with sol–gel precipitation. The silica gel was characterized for the functional group by FTIR, crystallinity with XRD, structure silica with SEM and particle size with PSA. The results show the higher concentration of solvent led to higher silica. The FTIR analysis revealed vibrations of Si[sbnd]O and Si[sbnd]O[sbnd]Si on the product. Additionally, observed to be amorphous and aggregated, the silica extracted from RHA also exhibited a decrease in all samples. © 2023

Offsets Reconstruction Method for Clock Skew Measurement Over High-Jitter Communication

Measuring clock skew of devices over a network fully relies on the offsets, the differences between sending and receiving times. Offsets that shape a thick line are the most ideal one as their slope is directly the clock skew sought. When some outliers separate from the thick line due to higher delay jitter, current advanced approaches use the lower bound or the majority of offsets to derive accurate clock skew. However, outliers in offsets that shape parallel dotted lines, reduce the availability of offsets in the lower region, and scatter widely the offsets from their majority zone. These conditions drive the current skew estimation approaches to lose their accuracy. This paper then developed a new method, which reconstructs back the outliers into their origin positions, in order to provide ideal offsets for clock skew measurement. The experimental evaluations have demonstrated that the clock skew accuracy of dotted-lines offsets tampered by outliers was improved from 2.1 to 0.9 ppm by the proposed reconstruction method. For a broader purpose, the reconstruction method has been adjusted to be implemented also on non-dotted-lines offsets. The robustness of the proposed method for this case has also been exhibited by the very ideal reconstructed offsets that shape like a thick line. © The Author(s) 2025.

Distribution of PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) particle-and gas-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)during the 2019 normal,partial and strong haze periods at a background location in southern Thailand were investigated to understand the behaviors and carcinogenic ***1 was the predominant component,during partial and strong haze periods,accounting for 45.1% and 52.9% of total suspended particulate matter,respectively,while during normal period the contribution was only 34.0%.PM_(0.1) concentrations,during the strong haze period,were approximately 2 times higher than those during the normal *** increased levels of particle-PAHs for PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) were observed during strong haze period,about 3,5 and 6 times higher than those during normal ***-PAH concentrations were 10 to 36 times higher than those of particle-PAHs for PM_(2.5).Average total Benzo[a]Pyrene Toxic Equivalency Quotients(BaP-TEQ)in PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) during haze periodswere about 2–6 times higher than in the normal *** total accumulated Incremental Lifetime Cancer Risks(ILCRs)in PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) for all the age-specific groups during the haze effected scenario were approximately 1.5 times higher than those in nonhaze scenario,indicating a higher potential carcinogenic *** observations suggest PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) were the significant sources of carcinogenic aerosols and were significantly affected by transboundary haze from peatland *** leads to an increase in the volume of smoke aerosol,exerting a significant impact on air quality in southern Thailand,as well as many other countries in lower southeast Asia.

Polymer-based dampening layer application to improve the operating shock tolerance of hard disk drive

This paper discusses a passive vibration control method to improve the shock tolerance of hard disk drives (HDDs) in operating condition (op-shock tolerance). Past works in improving the HDDs’ op-shock tolerance includes (i) parking the head when shock is detected, (ii) installing a lift-off limiter, (iii) structural modification of the suspension, and (iv) installing an external vibration isolation. Methods (i) and (iv) have practical issues, method (ii) works only on single shock direction, and method (iii) requires major engineering design/manufacturing work. Compared to these works, this paper proposes a method which has no practical issues and without requiring major engineering design/manufacturing work. The proposed method is to apply a polymer-based dampening layer on the backside of the baseplate with the purpose of increasing the damping ratio of the 1st bending mode of the baseplate. The location of the dampening layer on the baseplate is first determined by modal analysis and then fine-tuned by non-op-shock tests. The op-shock tolerance improvement is confirmed by op-shock tests where 2.5″ HDD with the dampening layer on the baseplate can withstand a 300G 0.5-ms shock without failure while unmodified HDD can only withstand 250G 0.5-ms shock without failure. © 2022, The Author(s).
