Adaptive irregular grid of seismic tomography: A synthetic test

Seismic tomography is a method that is widely applied to obtain seismic velocity structures below the surface. This method is applied to various cases, from global to regional scales, as well as local scales such as in the case of volcanoes, geothermal areas and underground mining. Until now, the grid form that is still widely used is the regular grid form. With a very rigid grid shape, it will be more difficult and inflexible to model the geometry of certain geological models that are very varied, even though mathematically there is no reason to avoid certain grid shapes and sizes. In order to minimize the uncertainty of the subsurface geological model grid, we developed a script to perform seismic tomography where the shape and size of the grid can be made irregular based on the Voronoi diagram. The number of grids in the inversion process can also adaptively increase or decrease based on the number of the raypath data. We then applied it to the synthetic crosshole tomography data and compared the results with the regular grid. With the irregular shape and size of the grid, better inversion results are obtained and are more suitable with the synthetic model.

Recently, there has been a growing interest in artificial skin on hydrogels as a potential alternative for animal testing to evaluate the efficacy and safety of new drugs or cosmetics. Synthetic polymers have been widely used due to their superior physicochemical properties. However, synthetic polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) are limited by their poor biocompatibility and cell adhesion. Combining synthetic and natural polymers can improve these properties. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of alginate and chitosan addition to PVA-based hydrogels on protein adsorption, cell viability and cell attachment. The addition of chitosan decreased protein adsorption, which was caused by the changes in electrostatic charge by PVA-chitosan interaction and changes in surface roughness. Primary human fibroblast cells cultured on PVA, PVA-alginate and PVA-chitosan had >80% viability which indicates the cytocompatibility of the hydrogels. More importantly, alginate and chitosan also improved the cell attachment on the PVA-based hydrogels. Taken together, the addition of both alginate and chitosan has the potential to improve PVA-based hydrogels for artificial skin application.

Domestic wastewater contributes about 40% as the source of water bodies pollutants in Indonesia, causing the spread of pathogens and bioaccumulation effects on the environment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of household wastewater in Jakarta and Depok in terms of quantity and quality. The average wastewater quantity estimation results from laundry, bathroom, kitchen, and closet were 49 ± 18, 79.1 ± 5, 24.5 ± 12, and 29.9 ± 3 liters/person/day. The qualitative analysis results stated that blackwater tends to have higher concentration on conductivity 1606-2046 μs/cm, TDS 709-1007 mg/L, ammonia 78-167 mg/L, total nitrogen 511-836 mg/L, total phosphorus 16.6-21.3 mg/L, phosphate 33-46.8 mg/L, potassium 32.5-47.9 mg/L, and fecal coliform 430,000-1.600,000 MPN/100 mL compared to other sources. Meanwhile, laundry greywater tends to have higher concentration on COD 559-1991.6 mg/L, MBAS 0.3-0.31 mg/L, aluminum 1.65-5.09 mg/L, sodium 7.5-61.4 mg/L, and silica 17.7-23.2 mg/L compared to other sources. Statistical results show that some parameters have significant difference in average concentration between each source so that these parameters can be considered as source tracer. The high pollutant concentration and quantity leads to high estimation of pollutant load on the river, as water bodies receiver, in Jakarta and Depok, especially on organic and nutrient load. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The Co-Fe-Nb materials system is a crucial material for magnetic applications. Despite its importance, the phase equilibria and thermodynamic characteristics of this ternary system have not been explored in detail. This study employs the Calphad method to model the phase equilibria of the Co-Fe-Nb ternary system. To obtain the ternary interaction parameters, the experimental data on the isothermal sections at temperatures ranging from 700°C to 1300°C was evaluated. These findings indicate that the Co-Fe-Nb system contains no ternary compound, and the (Co,Fe)7Nb6 phase exists as a single solid solution. Significant solubility of the third element in the binary compounds of Co2Nb (laves C14) and Fe2Nb (laves C15) is also observed. The results are in good agreement with the experimental data. Furthermore, a liquidus projection of the system is presented, for the first time, revealing seven primary solidification phases in the Co-Fe-Nb ternary system. © 2023, The Authors. E-learning is a system or concept of education or learning process that utilizes information technology in the teaching and learning process anywhere and anytime. E-learning is widely applied in various fields of science. In this study, we draw scientific efforts on e-learning and entrepreneurship from publications in the Scopus database. We reviewed 218 academic documents published over the last 10 years, from 2011 to 2020. Our method is a global bibliometric analysis by visualizing connected networks using Vosviewer. The method used consists of five stages: determining search keywords, initial search results, refinement of search results, initial compilation, and data analysis. We researched several countries, affiliations, authors, subject areas, to types of publications that have relations in this field. Among the most published and indexed articles by Scopus, papers published by researchers in the China have the highest number of publications is 36 academic documents, followed by United States 18 academic publications, and Italy with 16 academic publications. The results showed that it had a limited impact, and through visualization, the network presented research gaps that future researchers should fill. The processed data shows the pattern and trend of increasing the number of international publications on E-learning in the field of entrepreneurship indexed by Scopus. Finally, we address the limitations of this study. © 2021 IEEE.

In the present study, magnetic silica-chitosan hybrid (NMP@SiO₂/CPTMS/Chi) was synthesized via a convenient and green sol-gel technique under room temperature, and the material was used as a highly efficient magnetic adsorbent for the removal of phosphate ions in water. While the magnetic properties of NMP from iron enable the material to be quickly separated via magnetic separation, the abundant active sites from the chitosan made the hybrid exhibit high adsorption capacity for phosphate ions. At pH 6, the removal of phosphate ions followed the pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic model with the adsorption rate constant (k₂) of 5.9 × 10^-3 mg g⁻¹ min⁻¹ and obeyed the Langmuir isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity (q_max) of 15.06 mg g⁻¹, outperforming most of the previously reported adsorbents. Stability tests and derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) analysis demonstrated that NMP@SiO₂/CPTMS/Chi remained stable even under strongly acidic conditions and possessed high thermal stability, respectively. The synergistic combination of high adsorption capacity, acid stability, thermal stability, and facile magnetic separation renders NMP@SiO₂/CPTMS/Chi a promising adsorbent for wastewater treatment and environmental remediation. Overall, this innovative material represents a significant advancement in phosphate removal, offering a sustainable and effective solution to address the global challenge of water pollution and protect aquatic ecosystems. © 2025 The Authors

High performance polysulfone (PSf) membrane has been prepared for treating of batik palembang wastewater. Many investigations attempted the use of polysulfone (PSf) membranes to filtrate dilute contaminant in textile wastewater. The matrix membrane is a mixture of PSf which is produced by adding inorganic materials to obtain a polymer that functions to manufacture the membrane by increasing hydrophilicity and impurity resistance. MMM were fabricated from a dope solution containing PSf/LiCl/DMF at different additives composition. Antifouling properties of membranes could be enhance with 0.0 - 10 wt.% LiCl that has been added into dope solution. Pure water permeation flux analysis (PWP), AFM and FESEM. From the results of research on FESEM, the PSf / LiCL membrane showed a fairly symmetrical cross-sectional structure containing two layers. The layers of the tiny finger-like structure on the edge of the perforated fibers and the holes like the larger fingers are mixed with the macrovoid layer in the middle section. PWP flux is not proportional to mean rough outer surface but higher water permeation. Therefore, PSf/LiCl exhibited a better performance that resulted a much lower fouling tendency than the naked membrane in batik Palembang wastewater treatment.

Reverse osmosis (RO) membranes with polysilsesquioxane (PSQ) framework having high NaCl rejection and favorable resistance to heat and chlorine were prepared by the copolymerization of 3-glycidyloxypropyl-POSS (GPOSS) and bis[3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl]amine (BTESPA). It was found that NaCl rejection and liquid permeability were significantly improved by the introduction of GPOSS-derived units to the BTESPA-based membranes, yielding NaCl rejection of approximately 99% and liquid permeability of 5.5 × 10 -13 m/s·Pa. These PSQ RO membranes with GPOSS-derived units also demonstrated excellent resistance to heat treatment of up to 100 °C and favorable resistance to chlorine in that no obvious RO performance change was observed after exposure to NaOCl aqueous solution (1000 ppm) for 10 h. © 2022, The Authors. The estimation of the waste heat recovery in prime cookstove by using thermoelectric generators

Stoves with wooden fuel are widely used by communities in developing countries. Despite the relatively low efficiency of wood as fuel in stoves, the heat released could be reused and/or harvested into electrical energy. This work applied the Thermoelectric Energy Generator (TEG) technology to harvest the heat energy surrounding the stove into electricity by installing the TEC1-12706 and SP1848-27145SA cells in the upright position on the stove. The potential thermal energy efficiency of biomass stoves with an attached TEG was calculated. The results showed that when two TEGs in pair were attached, 1.48 V and 0.09 A were produced, meanwhile when the round side of the stove wall was fully attached to TEGs, it showed potential electrical energy production up to 0.27 W. The amount of energy produced was able to recharge lithium-ion batteries for 53 minutes using a buck-boost DC voltage converter, also contributing to increasing the stove’s energy efficiency by 0.014%.
