Investigation of combustion temperature through experiments with a wide range of fuels, both solid and liquid, is continuously being conducted by scientists around the world, while the measurement of heat transfer rate can be analyzed when the combustion process occurs. Previous research has generally been conducted using liquefied gas, fossil fuels, and alcohol additives. Specifically, the research in this work investigated the convection heat rate and combustion temperature through the modification of the perforated plate. The experiment was conducted in the fluidized-bed combustor (FBC) fuel chamber using solid waste fuel of oil palm biomass. Measurements were performed at four different points using the HotTemp HT-306 Digital Thermometer. The results of the experiment showed that the convection heat rate in measurement one (M-I) reached 8.258 W/m2 for palm kernel shell (PKS) fuel. Meanwhile, in measurement two (M-II), the convection rate of 7.392 W/m2 was produced by oil palm midrib (OPM) fuel. The highest combustion temperature was recorded with OPM fuel (884°C) at M-I. However, the combustion temperature of the PKS combustion process is higher at 896°C but shows a less good trend than OPM. Overall, the measurement results of the three types of fuel used to modify the perforated plate applied in the FBC fuel chamber are excellent. It can be proven that the fuel is put into the combustion chamber with nothing left. © 2021 Erdiwansyah et al.

The successful implementation of smart grids depends on energy efficiency, mostly relying on the operation of electricity source infrastructure. The combination of energy sources undoubtedly provides complexity in real applications. Some of the challenges for a smart grids comes from the intermittent renewable energy characteristics such as bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, solar, ocean power, and wind energy to the base load energy such as natural gas, coal, and nuclear. This paper aims to review the implementation of current advances of smart grids from combined energy mix sources. The review includes major components of smart grids, i.e. power plants, monitoring systems, substations, power transmission and distribution, controllers and smart meters. The review also investigates the state of the art contribution of power electronics, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things to more significant optimization, safety and efficiency in these areas. The results are expected to provide a further gap analysis of applicable technologies and best practices in mixed electricity generation sources. The final result will also consider its application in an archipelago country such as Indonesia.

Background: Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process involving the replacement of devitalized and missing cellular structures and tissue layers. Methods: This study involved developing a drug-loaded biomimetic micropillar wound dressing based upon inspiration from witnessing the adhesive ability in a gecko's footpad. The conformal adhesion was set up by applying a soft elastomer thin film on the developed wound dressing surfaces. The results showed that the developed surfaces prepared based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) had low surface free energy, high chemical stability, and good plasticity. Astaxanthin (AST) and curcumin were applied as the patch's bioactive compounds to help accelerate the wound healing process. Results: The results showed that the developed surfaces prepared based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) had low surface free energy, high chemical stability, and good plasticity. The results indicate that the developed biomimetic micropillar patches could release the loaded drugs and significantly increase cell viability and collagen content to 20 % ∼ 25 % in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion: In summation, the primary purpose of this study has been to design a novel encapsulated carrier (micropillar patch) for use in adjustable drug release, while combining with the biomimetic microstructure to reach wound healing through percutaneous absorption. © 2024 Taiwan Institute of chemical Engineers

Laundry services are emerging in every corner of Bali, particularly at suburban area, from cities to villages. These services help the community to ease their burden. However, the burden for the environment is increase. The wastewater from the laundries should be controlled, which should be handled natural ways. One way of reducing the dangerous chemical from the laundry wastewater can be done by Vertical-Sub-surface Flow Constructed Wetland system, using volcanic rocks as substrate of plant grow and the plant as filters. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of volcanic rock and Canna plants as a filter for the laundry wastewater. The volcanic rock as substrate for the plant grows was place in layers in a drum and the laundry wastewater was flowed. The parameter of wastewater laundry, such as TDS, BOD, COD and total phosphate were measured before and after treatment. The treatment was run for 6 weeks. The result shows that this system is effective that overall can reduce the parameter measured for 53.86%. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

The geochemical method is one of the methods used to know the characteristics of hot spring, and the estimation of subsurface temperature or geothermal reservoir. Analysis of chemical properties of hot springs through thermal chemistry by using trilinear diagram. The methods used are literature study and field observations such as mapping the distribution of hot water spring, titrimetric laboratory analysis, gravimetric, and spectrophotometer for the analysis of hot water spring through the geochemical approach in determining the type of hot water spring. The average temperature of 480C and pH of 7,85, clear color, smelled sulfur and taste salty. The result on the percentage value of the ion content in the hot springs samples that have been analyzed their chemical content, especially the anion content of CI, SO42−, and HCO3− CO32− indicates that hot spring type of Barasanga is a type of chloride. This is indicated by the large chloride ion content ranging from 85.486% to 90.627%.

This study aims to design the movement of the hexapod robot so that it can move straight forward, turn 90 degrees forward, and move forward 180 degrees by applying the tripod gait method to produce a maximum movement pattern. The robot control system uses Arduino Mega 2560 to control the motion of 18 servo motors through the I2C interface servo motor driver - PCA9685. In straight forward motion testing, an average velocity of 6 cm/s was obtained, 90 degree forward motion testing obtained an average speed of 18 degrees/s, while the 180 degree rotational forward motion test also obtained an average speed of 18 degrees/s. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Medium Optimization for Production of Monascus purpureus Pigment through Solid-state Fermentation

Colorants are component that is commonly added to many kinds of product, including food products. Regardless of its effectiveness and lower price, the effects of synthetic colorants towards human's health become a challenge for food colorant industries. Production of natural food colorant using microorganism as the producing agent is a promising prospect because microorganism has a high growth rate. Monascus purpureus can produce a set of natural pigments consist of yellow (monascin and ankaflavin), orange (rubropunctatin and monascorubrin) and red (rubropunctamine and monascorubramine) pigment. The objective of this research is to optimize the micronutrient composition in the medium for the production of Monascus pigment through solid-state fermentation using the job's tears (Coix lacryma-jobi L) as the substrate. Response surface method (RSM) was used to optimize the concentration of four substrate components: MSG, NaCl, KH2PO4, and MgSO4. From the experiment, it was found that the maximum red pigment was produced in medium with additional of (w/w): MSG 1.496%, NaCl 1.0%, KH2PO4 3.515% and MgSO4 0.206%. The yellow pigment was maximally produced in medium with additional of (w/w): MSG 1.5%, NaCl 1.0%, KH2PO4 2% and MgSO4 0.2%. Biomass was maximally produced in the medium with additional of (w/w): MSG 1.41%, NaCl 1.01%, KH2PO4 5.0% and MgSO4 0.2%. Among those nutrients, MSG gave the biggest impact on the increasing of pigment and biomass production.

Java Island is highly active tectonic zone and also has a complex geological system as a result of Indo-Australian plate that subducted under the Eurasian plate. This complexity produces many large and destructive earthquakes. Moreover, Java is a most densely populated region in Indonesia. The precise earthquake location can define and evaluate the seismic hazard in the area. In this study, we determined hypocenter location around the central and east Java region by using a non-linear method. We manually picked P-and S-wave arrival time recorded by BMKG network for the time period of 2009 to 2017. We used the minimum 1D seismic velocity model of ak135 to locate the events. We used some criteria for the determination of event location including (i) at least recorded by 4 station which has clear onset P and S arrival, and (ii) has magnitude (MW) > 3. The seismicity in the study area is controlled by subduction and many active faults distributed along the Java Island, also clustered in several areas such as Kendeng thrust, Opak river fault, Kebumen, Banyuwangi, and others. The result of this study indicates the accurately main shallow seismicity zones in central and eastern part of Java region, and also confirm the presence of active inland faults. As further studies, we will conduct 1D velocity modeling and relocate the hypocenters using an updated local 1D velocity model beneath the study area. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this study, new terpyridine ligands (1 and 2) were synthesized and their potential as chemosensor was investigated. Firstly, structural and optical characterization of the newly synthesized compounds 1 and 2 were performed by NMR, HRMS analyses, UV-vis. absorption and fluorescence spectrophotometer. To the best of our knowledge, the novelty of this study lies in the exceptional chemosensor potential demonstrated by our synthesized compounds, surpassing those reported in the literature. Solvent-dependent optical behavior was explored in thirteen different solvents, identifying ethanol as the optimal medium for sensor studies. The ion selectivity of 1 and 2 was examined against 20 different metal cations, revealing that compound 1 functions as a colorimetric sensor for Fe2+ and Fe3+, while compound 2 acts as a colorimetric sensor for both Fe2+, Fe3+ and Cr3+ and a fluorometric sensor for Zn2+ and Cd2+. With compound 1, the detection limits for Fe2+, Fe3+ were determined as 0.18 and 1.41 µM, respectively, and with compound 2, the detection limits for Fe2+, Fe3+, Cr3+, Zn2+ and Cd2+ were determined as 2.22, 0.22, 11.63, 0.31 and 2.50 µM, respectively. Both sensors demonstrated high selectivity and minimal interference from other cations. Furthermore, reversibility studies with EDTA confirmed the regenerative sensing ability of 2 for Zn2+ and Cd2+ detection. The binding mechanisms of compounds 1 and 2 with the detected ions (Fe2+, Fe3+, Cr3+, Zn2+ and Cd2+) were determined by FTIR measurements. Moreover, the validation of the detecting capabilities of chemosensors 1 and 2 is obtained using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Time-Dependent DFT (TD-DFT) calculations, utilizing FMO and UV-Vis analyses to gain insights into their electronic structures and photophysical properties. Regarding environmental sustainability, the limestone mining system has become a challenge due to the magnitude of environmental degradation. Therefore, environmental changes need to be studied with the aim of identifying patterns and trends of land cover changes in time series from 2006 – 2021 in limestone mining PT. Solusi Bangun Andalas, Lhoknga site plant, Aceh Besar. The method used in this study is the use of satellite imagery combined with spatial maps using ArcGIS software. Time series visualization of satellite imagery is analyzed using trends in land use change in the form of graphs and spatial maps from year to year. The results of the analysis show that based on the analysis of the vegetation index, the trend of land use changes in vegetation gradually decreases towards barren lands even though efforts to restore ex-mining land are carried out continuously every year. However, changes in barren land have not dominated the existing vegetated land. The results also show that changes in land use have not affected changes in existing water discharge due to the limited study area.
