Bottleneck Prediction Method Based on Improved Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) in Semiconductor Manufacturing System

Semiconductor manufacturing (SM) system is one of the most complicated hybrid processes involved continuously variable dynamical systems and discrete event dynamical systems. The optimization and scheduling of semiconductor fabrication has long been a hot research direction in automation. Bottleneck is the key factor to a SM system, which seriously influences the throughput rate, cycle time, time-delivery rate, etc. Efficient prediction for the bottleneck of a SM system provides the best support for the consequent scheduling. Because categorical data (product types, releasing strategies) and numerical data (work in process, processing time, utilization rate, buffer length, etc.) have significant effect on bottleneck, an improved adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) was adopted in this study to predict bottleneck since conventional neural network-based methods accommodate only numerical inputs. In this improved ANFIS, the contribution of categorical inputs to firing strength is reflected through a transformation matrix. In order to tackle high-dimensional inputs, reduce the number of fuzzy rules and obtain high prediction accuracy, a fuzzy c-means method combining binary tree linear division method was applied to identify the initial structure of fuzzy inference system. According to the experimental results, the main-bottleneck and sub-bottleneck of SM system can be predicted accurately with the proposed method.

With the uncertainty in the prices of feedstock, energy and finished products, the profit optimization plays a critical role in making a chemical production enterprise more dynamic and flexible to adapt the changes in global marketplace. This paper presents the development of profit optimization solution with an integration of profit model and model-based genetic algorithm (GA) optimization, and its industrial case study on an ethanolamine (EA) production line. The proposed methodology and solution may also be applied to other chemical manufacturing enterprises.

Earlier investigations show that the results of hazard identification (HAZID) and analysis (e.g. HAZOP or FMEA) can effectively be used for knowledge-based diagnosis of complex process systems in their steady-state operation. In order to extend this approach for transient operating conditions controlled by operating procedures, the notion of nominal input-output event sequences of qualitative signals has been introduced, and the deviations used in the procedure HAZID analysis have been defined therefrom. The diagnosis can then be performed algorithmically by matching the deviation sequences of the observed input-output event sequences and the nominal ones generated by qualitative dynamic models. The concepts and methods are illustrated using a simple case study consisting of a simple tank, controlled by an operating procedure. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Automatic EEG spike detection provide valuable information for diagnosis of epilepsy. In the past 30 years, a number of algorithms were proposed. However, the basic idea of most algorithms is to identify spike activities. We have developed an algorithm based on identify non-spike activities for off-line analysis. In this paper, we improved the algorithm for online application using real-time template. Template method is a typical spike detection method. It was not widely employed because of the difficulty of making template. Our results suggested that multi-channel template is meaningful and effective for real-time detection. Spike activities can be detected with a delay of about 2 s. We also designed an simple user-friendly monitor interface for monitor and review spike events in real-time. © 2011 IEEE.

A molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) system is modeled and a control strategy is proposed. A spatially distributed two-dimensional dynamic model of single cell direct internal reforming MCFC was developed as a numerical process by reducing the PDE model to a set of ODE's using the cubic spline collocation method and the finite difference method. Mean cell temperature, Ts;m, maximum temperature difference over a cell, ΔTs;max, oxygen conversion, XO2, and hydrogen mole fraction at the anode outlet, χH2;o, were considered as controlled variables (CV's) under the assumption that their target values are determined by an optimizer in the upper level. Among the CV's, Ts;m and ΔTs;max have much slower dynamics than the other two and keeping ΔTs;max below a certain safety limit is critical. Hence Ts;m and ΔT s;max were designed to be separately controlled under model predictive controller (MPC). On the other hand, XO2 and χH 2;o have fast dynamics and were designed to be regulated by single loop PID controllers with feedforward compensation. The manipulated variables (MV's) for each CV group were determined through a system analysis using the singular value decomposition and relative gain array. The performance of the control scheme was evaluated against load (power demand) changes. © 2011 Zhejiang University.

H∞ control theory is usually associated with highorder controllers. In this paper, simple tuning rules (extending the well-known SIMC) for the Proportional-Integral (PI) algorithm are derived analytically based on H∞ Weighted Sensitivity. The presented approach deals with stable, integrating and unstable plants in a unified way, avoiding any notion of coprime factorization. The final tuning involves two adjustable parameters, λ and υ with clear engineering meaning: λ selects the Robustness/Performance compromise, whereas υ allows to balance the Servo/Regulator performance. Based on this, several application scenarios are considered. First, a One-Degree-Of-Freedom (1-DOF) PI controller is assumed. Second, 2-DOF and switched implementations are investigated. © 2011 IEEE.

The demand of hydrogen in oil refinery is increasing as market forces and environmental legislation, so hydrogen network management is becoming increasingly important in refineries. Most studies focused on single-objective optimization problem for the hydrogen network, but few account for the multi-objective optimization problem. This paper presents a novel approach for modeling and multi-objective optimization for hydrogen network in refineries. An improved multi-objective optimization model is proposed based on the concept of superstructure. The optimization includes minimization of operating cost and minimization of investment cost of equipment. The proposed methodology for the multi-objective optimization of hydrogen network takes into account flow rate constraints, pressure constraints, purity constraints, impurity constraints, payback period, etc. The method considers all the feasible connections and subjects this to mixed-integer nonlinear programming （MINLP）. A deterministic optimization method is applied to solve this multi-objective optimization problem. Finally, a real case study is intro-duced to illustrate the applicability of the approach.

A method is proposed for performance assessment of PID control loops subject to time-varying disturbance dynamics, which is often observed in industrial processes. The proposed method optimizes overall performance of the processes and presents a PID tradeoff curve which provides a useful lower bound on the achievable performance of the PID controller in terms of both the most significant disturbance rejection and the representative disturbance rejection. One can choose an optional benchmark to assess the PID control performance according to the tradeoff curve. The developed performance assessment technique is illustrated by simulation and industrial examples. © 2011 Zhejiang University.

In this note, we study the problem of multiple hard output constraints imposed on a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) subject to external disturbances. Constraints on the concentration and on the temperature are considered. We show, analytically and with simulations, that there are critical combinations of constraints, where robust constraint satisfaction cannot be guaranteed. As a consequence violation of at least one constraint has to be allowed. © 2011 IFAC.
