Flexible coils become nowadays more and more interesting for inductive power transmission. These coils can be principally used on the transmitter side and the receiver side. However, the flexibility can affect the transmission behavior by the variation of the coil self-inductance and the coupling factor due to deformations. Controlling the IPT system to compensate coil parameters variations during charging processes becomes thereby a necessity. The charge control can be principally by variation of the working frequency, the compensation capacitor value, or the supply voltage level. In this paper, different control methods have been applied on flexible coils. For this purpose, a simulation-based on an analytical model is carried out to investigate the system behavior for different parameters. Thereby, the receiver coil has been considered flat where the transmitter coil is bent in concave and convex directions. The results show that the variation of the supply voltage delivers better results and ensure a constant power while the flexible transmitter is an extreme bending angle.

Nanocomposites films based on carbonaceous materials and polymers provide an innovative approach for the realization of scalable flexible sensors with a high performance and low manufacturing costs. The realized sensors can overcome several limitations of conventional sensors and provide decisive advantages, e.g. adjustable measurement range, high sensitivity, high robustness, flexibility and scalability. Some of these aspects will be exemplary discussed for sensors based on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and Graphene oxide (GO) for measurement quantities including temperature, humidity, strain and pressure. The carbonaceous materials and polymers sensors are highly attractive for applications in the fields of structural health monitoring (SHM), robotics, medical diagnostics, IoT and environmental monitoring. They can be realized at relatively low costs even if produced in a small number and can be easily integrated in different structures.

The field of small-scale microdevices is growing rapidly towards the development of tethered/untethered microsensors and therapeutic agents that can move through narrow vascular networks in living organisms to diagnose and treat for example vascular diseases. However, imaging and localization of such microdevices are challenging under scattering tissue due to the lack of high spatial and temporal resolution that compromises the penetration depth and therefore the application scenario. Here, we report the tracking of magnetically-driven rolling micromotors (20 μm in diameter) through scattering tissue (1.2 mm thickness) using reflective infrared (IR) imaging. This technique provides high spatiotemporal resolution for the tracking of micro-agents in a narrow vascular network. As a potential application, we suggest the use of such micro-agents as micro-viscosimeters, in which by analyzing their dynamics, one can extract some basic information on the surrounding fluid properties which might be related to certain health status. © 2021 IEEE.

Nowadays, the improvement of the nonlinearity for energy harvesting systems is more and more investigated due to their ability to work for a wider frequency range. For this purpose, in this work, the development of bistable plates is proposed. In particular, the properties of composite bistable boards, built of monolayers of ordered carbon fibers is investigated. This paper proposes a bistable plates, where this effect is introduced during the manufacturing by changing the orientation of individual layers. In particular, the effect of the plate size and thickness on the bistability is studied experimentally. For this purpose, the relationship of the force F relative to x, where x is a measure of the plate deflection relative to the unstable equilibrium point (at plate). Further, the potential energy Ep(x) is evaluated through the numerical integration of the force characteristic to deduce the effect of the studied parameters on the plates bistability.

Dry flexible electrodes are most commonly used in the application of long-term medical monitoring systems due to their good stability. In this study, a flexible electrode, composed of a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), is proposed for long-term health monitoring. To avoid MWCNTs aggregation and to achieve uniform distributions within the polymer, ultrasonic dispersion method using Tetrahydrofuran (THF) solvent is considered an effective, less time consuming as compared to conventional dispersing systems, though direct ultrasonication. To optimize the performance of electrode, two electrode sizes are investigated with a diameter of 2 and 3 cm to compare the electrical properties. In comparison with wet electrodes, 3 cm diameter and 3 wt% CNT concentration electrode has lower electrode-meat contact impedance leading to bioimpedance measurement.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 70% of all epileptic seizures are convulsive, making the EMG signal one of the essential signals used for epilepsy treatment. Nevertheless, epileptic seizure classification remains a challenge. Suitable machine learning classifiers and features are the critical metrics for good performance. In this paper, a collection of widely used time-domain features of surface electromyography (sEMG) signals is illustrated and an investigation of their ability to distinguish epileptic seizures is reported for five subjects performing myoclonic and tonic seizures using eight sEMG sensors placed on different muscles: Biceps brachii, flexor carpi ulnaris, gastrocnemius, and quadriceps. Feature selection step is required to eliminate information redundancy and irrelevant before epileptic seizure classification. The results show that extracting Waveform Length, Integrated EMG, Variance, Shannon Entropy, Complexity, Skewness, and Root Mean Square values are more significant for myoclonic-tonic seizure classification based on sEMG signal analysis. Selected features have been subjected to the Artificial Neural Network classifier. An overall epileptic seizure accuracy of 96% could be achieved by the ANN algorithm based on seven selected features.

Two biomaterial types have been the focus of sensor applications: Fluorosilicate bioactive Glass \text{BG}-\mathrm{F}-{6} crude and compact. Of the two, \text{BG}-\mathrm{F}-{6} compact material show the greater mechanical strength, and electrical behaviour provoke greater humidity sensing capacity. Thus, the glassy discs show great potential for deployment in a new generation of biosensors and environment requires. The aim of this paper is to develop a material that combines an interesting mechanical strength, monophasic stability with potential thermic resistance and great electrical capacity. By returning to its high temperature synthesis protocol, makes this fluorosilicate glass an attractive material for sensors development topic and environmental precautions. © 2020 IEEE.

Multi-coil inductive power transmission technology has been widely investigated due to their ability to charge devices in large transmission area. In this paper, an implementation of multi-coil inductive power transmission system has been presented. The proposed system is composed by 16 coils organized in 4 columns and 4 rows controlled by switches. A small size sending side circuit is used, which is composed of a singular AC oscillator, power amplifier, resonant compensation capacitor and a passive voltage. This circuit offers a small size electronic parts, simplicity during implementation and low cost. An IoT Android application offers to the user the possibility of tracking the device to be charged on top of multicoil sending inductive power transmission system. A Bluetooth module has been connected to the sending side circuit to establish the communication with the user smartphone. To show the electronic circuit voltages, an LTspice simulation using realistic components has been presented. The proposed multi-coil system with the developed Android App. has been experimentally implemented.

The recognition of human gestures in real-time using body attached sensors has brought attention in recent years due to the manifold potential applications. The implemented sensors must be flexible, easy to adapt to bodily parts, highly sensitive and biocompatible. In this work a novel strain sensor is investigated which is based on a conductive thermoplastic polyurethane (CTPU) blended with a biocompatible soft thermoplastic polyurethane polymer (STPU). The sensor shows a high capability to transfer the mechanical deformation into an electrical response with high sensitivity. An investigation of the sensing properties using different mixture percentage of STPU/CTPU starting from 10/0 to 0/10 is carried out. The sensing behavior is characterized based on several mechanical and electrical properties e.g. stretchability, sensitivity, linearity, repeatability and hysteresis. The composition STPU/CTPU 7/3 showed a better performance compared to other studied compositions, where the elastic zone estimated was ∼13 (linearity = 0.98 within elastic zone) and 39 of sensitivity. The mentioned sensor's response demonstrates high repeatability and low hysteresis effect. Finally, the selected sensor composition was attached to a glove where the movement of a finger was successfully tracked.

The omnipresent connectivity and highly distributed intelligence of Internet of Things (IoTs) integrated with Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) emerge as the backbone of advanced remote surveillance and control. A reliable Smart-Lab system using IoT technologies is designed to control the entire activities of a research laboratory. Smart-Lab provides a real IT intelligent environment by exploring the interaction of devices under a single roof enabling a better alignment of the research with researchers and end-users. To this end, heterogeneous IoT devices are integrated into a centralized monitoring system with developed Application Programming Interface (API). The designed API conceals the complexities of wireless communication protocols, and provides a well-defined and easy-to-use way to collect data from sensors. To implement the back-end, a Representational State Transfer (REST) approach is used. Results of different test-beds can be, stored in a MySQL database and visualized for users on the web page through the use of JSON. Then, as a proof of concept, a real-time IoT based environmental monitoring system is designed.
