Optimizations and applications in large-scale scenes of Monte Carlo geometry conversion code CMGC

In response to the demand for rapid geometric modeling in Monte Carlo radiation transportation calculations for large-scale and complex geometric scenes,functional improvements,and algorithm optimizations were performed using CAD-to-Monte Carlo geometry conversion(CMGC)*** representation(BRep)to constructive solid geometry(CSG)conversion and visual CSG modeling were combined to address the problem of non-convertible geometries such as spline *** splitting surface assessment method in BRep-to-CSG conversion was optimized to reduce the number of Boolean operations using an Open ***,in turn,reduced the probability of CMGC conversion *** auxiliary surface generation algorithm was optimized to prevent the generation of redundant auxiliary surfaces that cause an excessive decomposition of CAD geometry *** optimizations enhanced the usability and stability of the CMGC model *** was applied successfully to the JMCT transportation calculations for the conceptual designs of five china Fusion engineering Test Reactor(CFETR)*** rapid replacement of different blanket schemes was achieved based on the baseline CFETR *** geometric solid number of blankets ranged from hundreds to tens of *** correctness of the converted CFETR models using CMGC was verified through comparisons with the MCNP calculation *** CMGC supported radiation field evaluations for a large urban scene and detailed ship *** enabled the rapid conversion of CAD models with thousands of geometric solids into Monte Carlo CSG *** analysis of the JMCT transportation simulation results further demonstrated the accuracy and effectiveness of the CMGC.

Internal Electromagnetic Pulse (IEMP) generated inside a cavity, known as Cavity IEMP, would disrupt the operational integrity of embedded electronic systems upon exposure to transient X-ray radiation. In this paper, we employ a coupled approach, integrating the Monte Carlo Method with a 3D Electromagnetic Particle-in-Cell (PIC) Method, to quantify IEMP responses in a cuboidal cavity. The Monte Carlo simulation addresses the interactions between the wall materials and X-rays, yielding detailed energy and angular spectra of electrons produced on both the upper and lower walls of a cavity. Additionally, a proposed 3D electromagnetic particle-in-cell method is used to simulate the self-consistent evolution of the electromagnetic fields generated inside the cavity, driven by the electrons induced by X-ray exposure. With such a method, transient electromagnetic fields inside a cuboidal cavity exposed to X-rays are calculated and analyzed. This research contributes to the advancement of radiation-hardened design strategies for electronic systems, particularly in spacecraft applications. © 2024 IEEE.

The computation on the surface of Overlapping Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) is exclusively performed within the non-Overlapping zone of its multi-level patch-based mesh - a distinctive computing mode for Overlapping AMR. Effectuating surface computing based on Overlapping AMR necessitates the reciprocal mapping of two computing modes: Overlapping AMR multi-level computing and non-Overlapping AMR computing. This study consolidates the mapping relationship between these two modes into data mapping, algorithm mapping, and parallel unit mapping. Subsequently, solutions are proposed for the implementation of these mappings, thereby establishing a foundational method for conducting surface computing using Overlapping AMR. Building upon this foundation, the present article utilizes tracing particles on the surface of Overlapping AMR as a paradigm, elucidating how to leverage the aforementioned mapping relationships to construct a surface tracing particle function within our center's JASMIN (J parallel Adaptive Structured Mesh applications INfrastructure). Additionally, a corresponding method for drawing tracing particle trajectories is provided. Functional testing of these elements demonstrates that the application effects of the functions align with expectations. The successful realization of surface tracing particles based on multi-level AMR attests to the completeness of the three aforementioned mappings, providing guidance for practical algorithmic endeavors. The amalgamation of multi-level computing and surface computing based on overlapping AMR empowers users to consider diverse factors such as numerical format, interpolation format, and application performance. This capability enables users to construct applications tailored to their specific requirements, fostering the development of ideal applications. © 2023 IEEE.

A new platform software named JUSMAR-MANS based on JASMIN was developed for the massively parallel numerical simulation on compressible multimedia multiphase flow under complex conditions. Different from the traditional "chimney"program research and development (r & d) pattern, the MANS who adopted the "platform"r & d pattern provides a way by which the users can rapidly and conveniently customize personalized high-credibility program of multimedium without considering in numerical discrete and parallel computing. MANS has the following advantages: 1) Decoupling of disciplines: In architecture design, physical modeling, numerical discreting, parallel computing are separated from each other and concept shielding so that the high barriers of program r & d caused by interdisciplinary are broken down. 2) Expandability: enables to easily extend new physical models and numerical schemes based on single point/element interfaces. 3) Rapid customization: enable to quickly assemble personalized program based on various models and algorithms libraries integrated by MANS. Based on MANS, it only takes serial code within a few days to obtain a well-posed large - scale multimedium simulation, which greatly reduce the complexity of software r & d for compressible multimedium flow. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

An efficient massively parallel computing program for shock wave propagation named Shock3d is developed for shock wave damage mechanism in complex scenes. With the finite volume method, the program is built upon JASMIN (J parallel Adaptive Structured Mesh applications INfrastructure) and employs a component-based hierarchical organization structure. Using the patch-based core algorithm, Shock3d enables high parallel efficiency and strong parallel scalability with a parallel domain decomposition method and an image domain-based communication mode. It not only considers gravity, real gas effects, and boundaries in complex scenes, but also supports dynamic load balancing (DLB) and three-dimensional structured meshes and allows the parallel solution of hundreds of millions of mesh problems. Typical examples were used to verify the validity, parallelism, and high-resolution simulation results of the program developed. In the scalability test, where the propagation of shock waves through hundreds of millions of mesh elements was simulated on 300,000 CPU cores, the program delivered parallel efficiency of 60.84%. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Determining the mass of plutonium metal is an important research objective in the field of nuclear material accounting and *** on the 3D neutron and photon transport code JMCT(Jointed Monte Carlo Transport),the gamma ray multiplicity of ^(240)Pu was simulated in this study,and the average number of gamma rays leaking from ^(240)Pu solid spheres with different masses was also *** simulation results show that there is a oneto-one correspondence between the average number of gamma rays and the mass of ^(240)Pu solid spheres in the range of 0.50–3.00 *** result provides a basis for using the average number of gamma rays to account for the mass of ^(240)Pu.

To address the visualization problem of surface streamline on complex curved surfaces, we present and implement an efficient surface streamline generation method for visualizing vector field on arbitrary geometry. The intersection calculation on curved surfaces with complex topology is performed to achieve the high-precision underlying vector. Then, this approach adopts an extended Runge-Kutta streamline integration technology for performing streamline tracing on an unstructured mesh, where the adaptive stepsize strategy and intersection acceleration structure are presented for sake of simplicity and efficiency. Finally, this approach is integrated into a visualization software to enhance the visualizing capability. CMOS devices are widely used in modern integrated circuits. However, like any semiconductor device, CMOS devices are susceptible to total ionizing dose (TID) effects when exposed to ionizing radiation environments. In this work, a TCAD model of a 180 nm bulk COMS is developed to investigate the impact of TID effects. Simulated results show that the TID effects can cause a negative shift in the voltage characteristics curve and an increase in leakage current of CMOS devices. © 2023 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES).
