Mobile telecommunication companies’investment and pricing strategies for content service

Several mobile telecommunication companies(MTCs),such as AT&T,Verizon,and china Mobile,are investing in content services to drive continued growth as the telecom industry has become *** this study,we investigate the competition between two MTCs,one of which(MTC 1)provides both data and content services,while the other(MTC 2)provides only data *** propose a two-stage game-theoretic model to analyze the two MTCs'optimal pricing strategies for data service and content service as well as the investment strategy for the content *** analysis reveals that a higher value of value-added service offered by MTC 1 will incentivize it to raise its subscription fee for the content service and induce both MTCs to reduce the prices of their data services,which results in an increased demand for the content service and a decreased demand for MTC 2's data *** MTC 1 invests further in the quality of the content service,it would benefit from increasing the subscription fee for the content service,and the two MTCs should increase the subscription fee for the data ***,compared to the decisions in the scenario where MTC 1 does not provide content service,the provision of this service by MTC 1 leads to a lower subscription fee for the two MTCs'data services,an increase in the demand for MTC 1's data service,and a decrease in the demand for MTC 2's data *** findings reveal that regularly monitoring market competition,as well as adjusting pricing strategies based on market scenarios and the value of services,can enhance competitiveness and long-term profitability for MTCs.

The joint optimization of production,maintenance,and quality control has shown effectiveness in reducing long-term operational costs in production ***,existing studies often assume that changes in the mean value of product quality characteristics in a deteriorating system follow a specific distribution while keeping variance *** address this limitation,we propose an innovative method based on the continuous ranking probability score(CRPS).This method enables the simultaneous detection of changes in mean and variance in nonconformities,thus removing the assumption of a specific distribution for quality *** approach focuses on developing optimal strategies for production,maintenance,and quality control to minimize cost per unit of ***,we employ a stochastic model to optimize the production time allocated to the inventory buffer,resulting in significant cost *** effectiveness of our proposed joint optimization method is demonstrated through comprehensive numerical experiments,sensitivity analysis,and a comparative *** results show that our method can achieve cost reductions compared to several other related methods,highlighting its practical applicability for manufacturing companies aiming to reduce costs.

laboratory experiments are one of the important means used to investigate travel choice behavior under strategic *** experiment-based studies have shown that the Nash equilibrium can predict aggregated route choices,while the fluctuations,whose mechanisms are still unclear,continue to exist until the *** understand the fluctuations,this paper proposes a route-dependent attraction-based stochastic process model,which shares exactly the same behavioral foundation introduced in Part I of the study(Qi et al.,2023),i.e.,route-dependent inertia and route-dependent *** model predictions are carefully compared with the experimental observations obtained from the congestible parallel-route laboratory experiments containing 312 subjects and eight decision-making scenarios(Qi et al.,2023).The results show that the proposed stochastic process model can precisely reproduce the random oscillations both in terms of flow switching and route flow ***,an approximated model is developed to enhance the efficiency in evaluating the equilibrium distribution,providing a practical tool to evaluate the impacts of transportation policies in both long-and short-term *** the best of our knowledge,this paper is the first attempt to model and explain experimental phenomena by introducing stochastic process theories,as well as a successful example of applying experimental economics methodology to improve our understanding of human travel choice behavior.

Winning Seats: Contingency Selling in Markets with Limited Capacity and Diverse Preferences

This paper examines an emerging pricing model, contingency selling, for markets where the product is sold in advance with attribute uncertainty and capacity constraint. A typical example is tournament ticket sales for sports events where it is uncertain whether a particular team will appear in the game. The model enables the firm to sell tickets in a contingent fashion, i.e., some tickets will be valid only if a certain team gets into the game. When consumers (fans) have sufficiently different preferences for different products (games with different teams), selling these “contingent tickets” better matches the price with the willingness-to-pay of particular consumer segments (fans of specific teams). Exploiting state-based price discrimination and belief heterogeneity, contingent tickets generate a higher margin per seat than the traditional way of selling general tickets, especially when there are supply constraints. We further show that contingency selling continues to be advantageous in the presence of secondary markets where consumers purchase tickets in advance but can trade tickets once they know which team will be in the game. We extend our model to examine the impacts of consumer optimism bias and fan base asymmetry. Finally, we compare contingency selling with alternative selling mechanisms to demonstrate the robustness of our results and illustrate the situations where this new selling model is more (or less) advantageous. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Credit scoring is a popular tool for loan assessment, i.e., deciding whether to accept or reject a loan application. Traditional research into learning for credit scoring has only applied historically accepted samples without rejected applicants whose true repayment performance is absent, thereby causing both sample selection bias and wasting data. Some methods have been proposed for inferring rejected samples but they are still affected by several open problems, especially for medium- and long-term loan applications with a higher rejection rate. In particular, the heterogeneous relationships between accepted and rejected applications have not been well studied. Moreover, the complex repayment behaviors resulting from long repayment terms may lead to poor learning performance. Thus, we propose a reject inference framework with Semi-supervised Hierarchical Heterogeneous Network (S2HN) for credit scoring. We introduce a hierarchical heterogeneous network for revealing the complex connections between accepted and rejected applications, and use prospective heterogeneous repayment patterns as auxiliary information through clustering and a two-layer prediction architecture. Extensive experiments conducted based on real-world data sets demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed method. © 2024 International Institute of Forecasters

To explain day-to-day (DTD) route-choice behaviors and traffic dynamics observed in a series of lab experiments, Part I of this research proposed a discrete choice-based analytical dynamic model (Qi et al., 2023). Although the deterministic model could well reproduce the experimental observations, it converges to a stable equilibrium of route flow while the observed DTD evolution is apparently with random oscillations. To overcome the limitation, the paper proposes a route-dependent attraction-based stochastic process (RDAB-SP) model based on the same behavioral assumptions in Part I of this research. Through careful comparison between the model-based estimation and experimental observations, it is demonstrated that the proposed RDAB-SP model can accurately reproduce the random oscillations both in terms of flow switching and route flow evolution. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to explain and model experimental observations by using stochastic process DTD models, and it is interesting to find that the seemingly unanticipated phenomena (i.e., random route switching behavior) is actually dominated by simple rules, i.e., independent and probability-based route-choice behavior. Finally, an approximated model is developed to help simulate the stochastic process and evaluate the equilibrium distribution in a simple and efficient manner, making the proposed model a useful and practical tool in transportation policy design. © 2023, CC BY.

In the area of urban transportation networks, a growing number of day-to-day (DTD) traffic dynamic theories have been proposed to describe the network flow evolution, and an increasing amount of laboratory experiments have been conducted to observe travelers’ behavior regularities. However, the "communication" between theorists and experimentalists has not been made well. This paper devotes to 1) detecting unanticipated behavior regularities by conducting a series of laboratory experiments, and 2) improving existing DTD dynamics theories by embedding the observed behavior regularities into a route choice model. First, 312 subjects participated in one of the eight decision-making scenarios and make route choices repeatedly in congestible parallel-route networks. Second, three route-switching behavior patterns that cannot be fully explained by the classic route-choice models are observed. Third, to enrich the explanation power of a discrete route-choice model, behavioral assumptions of route-dependent attractions, i.e., route-dependent inertia and preference, are introduced. An analytical DTD dynamic model is accordingly proposed and proven to steadily converge to a unique equilibrium state. Finally, the proposed DTD model could satisfactorily reproduce the observations in various datasets. The research results can help transportation science theorists to make the best use of laboratory experimentation and to build network equilibrium or DTD dynamic models with both real behavioral basis and neat mathematical properties. © 2023, CC BY.

Many methods of semantic image segmentation have borrowed the success of open compound domain adaptation. They minimize the style gap between the images of source and target domains, more easily predicting the accurate pseudo annotations for target domain's images that train segmentation network. The existing methods globally adapt the scene style of the images, whereas the object styles of different categories or instances are adapted improperly. This paper proposes the Object Style Compensation, where we construct the Object-Level Discrepancy Memory with multiple sets of discrepancy features. The discrepancy features in a set capture the style changes of the same category's object instances adapted from target to source domains. We learn the discrepancy features from the images of source and target domains, storing the discrepancy features in memory. With this memory, we select appropriate discrepancy features for compensating the style information of the object instances of various categories, adapting the object styles to a unified style of source domain. Our method enables a more accurate computation of the pseudo annotations for target domain's images, thus yielding state-of-the-art results on different datasets.
