Counterfactual subgraphs explain graph neural networks (GNNs) by answering the question: 'How would the prediction change if a certain subgraph were absent in the input instance?' The differentiable proxy adjacency matrix is prevalent in current counterfactual subgraph discovery studies due to its ability to avoid exhaustive edge searching. However, a prediction gap exists when feeding the proxy matrix with continuous values and the thresholded discrete adjacency matrix to GNNs, compromising the optimization of the subgraph generator. Furthermore, the end-to-end learning schema adopted in the subgraph generator limits the diversity of counterfactual subgraphs. To this end, we propose CF-GFNExplainer, a flow-based approach for learning counterfactual subgraphs. CF-GFNExplainer employs a policy network with a discrete edge removal schema to construct counterfactual subgraph generation trajectories. Additionally, we introduce a loss function designed to guide CF-GFNExplainer's optimization. The discrete adjacency matrix generated in each trajectory eliminates the prediction gap, enhancing the validity of the learned subgraphs. Furthermore, the multitrajectories sampling strategy adopted in CF-GFNExplainer results in diverse counterfactual subgraphs. Extensive experiments conducted on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of validity and diversity. © 2020 IEEE.

Graph neural networks (GNNs) are specially designed to process graph data because of their ability to effectively capture complex structures and relationships within graphs. However, due to the pixel-based nature of images, representing them as graphs and then using graph networks poses challenges. Inspired by granular computing, we propose a method to compute multi-granularity structured features from image tiles, which facilitates efficient and direct graph-based representation learning. Specifically: (1) We design a method to reorganize all regional features into multiple tiles and construct a multi-granularity graph representation, which includes nodes and edges. (2) We use gray-level co-occurrence matrices to extract the image texture features to compensate for the information lost during graph representation. (3) We design a graph neural network classifier that combines the above graph features and image texture features. Experimental evaluations on two benchmark image classification datasets demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed method and its potential to establish a new paradigm for image processing. Sketch education is an essential component of arts education. In recent years, with the development of society, the demand for sketch courses has been steadily increasing. However, the existing teaching resources are severely lacking, and unable to meet the requirements of high-quality teaching. This paper has designed and implemented a sketching smart teaching system. The system utilizes artificial intelligence technology to assist teaching, providing modules for image cross-modal transformation and style transfer to broaden users’ creative thinking and fulfill personalized learning needs. Furthermore, the system supports a step-by-step image generation process, aiding users in learning drawing techniques effectively. Additionally, our system can collect users’ drawing processes and analyze the gathered data to correct users’ drawing habits. These data also serve as valuable resources for the development of artificial intelligence. This platform has propelled the transformation of classroom teaching from traditional methods to interactive teaching models inside and outside the classroom, achieving mutual empowerment between artificial intelligence and smart education. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Granular Sequential Three-Way Decision for Specific Decision Classes

Sequential three-way decision (S3WD) is an efficient granular computing paradigm for dealing with uncertain problems. However, it is primarily oriented to all decision classes, which contradicts the fact that decisions are typically for the specific decision classes. Meanwhile, most S3WD models hide the topological structure of the granules, leading to difficulties in semantic interpretation. To address the issues, integrating model construction, attribute reduction and knowledge extraction, a general framework of granular sequential three-way decision (GrS3WD) for the specific decision classes is proposed to improve semantic interpretation and computational efficiency. First, a two-stage trisecting strategy and a GrS3WD model are proposed to integrate model construction with attribute reduction. Its main advantage is that it retains the topological structure of granules, which not only enhances semantic interpretation but also avoids unnecessary double counting. Second, three acceleration strategies and a novel granular sequential three-way reduction (GrS3WR) algorithm are proposed to fast obtain a classification-based reduct or a class-specific reduct. Finally, the decision rules with multi-granularity can be directly extracted from the concept tree generated by GrS3WR. Experimental results demonstrate that a class-specific reduct usually has fewer attributes and better classification performance than a classification-based reduct. Moreover, GrS3WR can significantly improve the computational efficiency of attribute reduction. © 1993-2012 IEEE.

Federated learning (FL) is a rapidly growing research area in machine learning, but it is problematic. It has been questioned whether or not existing FL libraries are practical in the area of medical privacy. To address these issues, we developed the CQUPT-FL system. The system focuses on resolving the conflict between data integrity and medical data privacy protection in cross-domain and cross-institution collaborative analysis. CQUPT-FL supports distributed computing and stand-alone simulation computing methods. To deal with the problems of heterogeneity, data domain diversity, and effective data scarcity, we adopted key technologies such as multi-party secure computing and holistic information representation and studied user identification, privacy protection, and heterogeneous user alignment to achieve sustainable Cross-domain and cross-platform data fusion of letters. The goal of introducing the CQUPT-FL system is to improve the level of data privacy protection and enhance the data privacy protection mechanism, solve the machine learning dilemma in the field of medical privacy, and provide a reliable solution for cross-domain collaborative analysis. © 2023 IEEE.

The multi-agent task allocation presents a fundamental challenge in the field of multi-agent systems, especially in uncertain environments. Although extensive research has been conducted on the multi-agent task allocation in deterministic environments, discussions around the multi-agent task allocation in uncertain environments are relatively scarce. In reality, uncertain data is more common in practical decision-making processes. To address the multi-agent task allocation problem in uncertain environments, this study frames it as a noisy optimization problem and proposes a novel Multi-Granular Differential Evolution (MGDE) algorithm to solve it. MGDE combines the powerful differential evolution (DE) with the granular-ball computing which has high robustness in noise. The proposed MGDE is compared with other three state-of-the-art algorithms on 12 scenarios encompassing 6 agent and task quantity combinations and 2 uncertainty levels. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of MGDE. © 2023 IEEE.
