Graph convolutional networks (GCNs) are popular for a variety of graph learning tasks. ReRAM-based processing-in-memory (PIM) accelerators are promising to expedite GCN training owing to their in-situ computing capability. However, existing accelerators can be severely underutilized even with pipelines, due to the oversight of the skewed execution times of various GCN stages and the ignorance of skewed degrees of graph vertices. In this work, we propose GOPIM, a GCN-oriented pipeline optimization for PIM accelerators to expedite GCN training. First, GOPIM proposes an ML-based scheme that allocates crossbar resources to the most needed stages to streamline the overall pipeline. Second, GOPIM utilizes a selective vertex updating technique that evenly distributes vertices on crossbars by interleaved mapping. These techniques collectively reduce the overall execution time without losing much accuracy. We also provide a practical architecture design for GOPIM. Our experimental results show that, GoPIM achieves up to 191 × speedup and 16.1 × energy saving, compared to the state-of-the-art work.

In the domain of facial recognition security, multimodal Face Anti-Spoofing (FAS) is essential for countering presentation attacks. However, existing technologies encounter challenges due to modality biases and imbalances, as well as domain shifts. Our research introduces a Mixture of Experts (MoE) model to address these issues effectively. We identified three limitations in traditional MoE approaches to multimodal FAS: (1) Coarse-grained experts’ inability to capture nuanced spoofing indicators; (2) Gated networks’ susceptibility to input noise affecting decision-making; (3) MoE’s sensitivity to prompt tokens leading to overfitting with conventional learning methods. To mitigate these, we propose the Bypass Isolated Gating MoE (big-MoE) framework, featuring: (1) Fine-grained experts for enhanced detection of subtle spoofing cues; (2) An isolation gating mechanism to counteract input noise; (3) A novel differential convolutional prompt bypass enriching the gating network with critical local features, thereby improving perceptual capabilities. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets demonstrate significant generalization performance improvement in multimodal FAS task. The code is released at https://***/murInJ/big-MoE.

Learning with Open-world Noisy data via Class-independent Margin in Dual Representation Space

Learning with Noisy Labels (LNL) aims to improve the model generalization when facing data with noisy labels, and existing methods generally assume that noisy labels come from known classes, called closed-set noise. However, in real-world scenarios, noisy labels from similar unknown classes, i.e., open-set noise, may occur during the training and inference stage. Such open-world noisy labels may significantly impact the performance of LNL methods. In this study, we propose a novel dual-space joint learning method to robustly handle the open-world noise. To mitigate model overfitting on closed-set and open-set noises, a dual representation space is constructed by two networks. One is a projection network that learns shared representations in the prototype space, while the other is a One-Vs-All (OVA) network that makes predictions using unique semantic representations in the class-independent space. Then, bi-level contrastive learning and consistency regularization are introduced in two spaces to enhance the detection capability for data with unknown classes. To benefit from the memorization effects across different types of samples, class-independent margin criteria are designed for sample identification, which selects clean samples, weights closed-set noise, and filters open-set noise effectively. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods and achieves an average accuracy improvement of 4.55% and an AUROC improvement of 6.17% on CIFAR80N. Stock is a vital component of the financial market, and how to accurately predict stock price trend is a popular topic and open problem. In order to achieve higher prediction accuracy, we propose a personalized model based on simple recurrent unit (PSRU), which can effectively eliminate the impact of noise and diversity of stock price series. Specifically, we firstly introduce variational mode decomposition (VMD) in terms of parameter determination for denoising parameters and perform denoising on the time series, effectively reducing the noise in the data and improving the prediction accuracy. Then, to better capture the characteristics of diverse time series, we cluster the time series into multiple classes, and each class fits an optimal prediction model. Especially, to improve the clustering, we introduce the dynamic multi-perspective personalized similarity measurement (DMPSM), which can help avoid singularities, time shifts and warping in time series. Finally, SRU is adopted as the prediction model which can achieve high prediction accuracy with excellent mapping and parallel processing capabilities. The experimental results show that PSRU outperforms other commonly used time series forecasting methods on multiple performance metrics, demonstrating the effectiveness and superiority of PSRU in stock price prediction, especially in dealing with nonlinear and non-stationary time series data. © 2025, ICIC International. This study presents a computational methodology for developing a multi-ball system that automatically aligns during assembly processes. The contributions of this work are threefold: Firstly, a comprehensive error analysis of the multi-ball system is conducted. It is found that temperature- and pressure-induced deformations cannot be ignored when micrometer-level precision is required. Secondly, a novel process flow for designing the multi-ball pitch artifact is introduced, which enables optimization-based decision-making. Lastly, an error compensation method, including thermal compensation and elastic deformation compensation, is presented to ensure that the accuracy of pitch artifacts mainly depends on the manufacturing accuracy. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

How Do LLMs Acquire New Knowledge? A Knowledge Circuits Perspective on Continual Pre-Training

Despite exceptional capabilities in knowledge-intensive tasks, Large Language Models (LLMs) face a critical gap in understanding how they internalize new knowledge, particularly how to structurally embed acquired knowledge in their neural computations. We address this issue through the lens of knowledge circuit evolution, identifying computational subgraphs that facilitate knowledge storage and processing. Our systematic analysis of circuit evolution throughout continual pre-training reveals several key findings: (1) the acquisition of new knowledge is influenced by its relevance to preexisting knowledge;(2) the evolution of knowledge circuits exhibits a distinct phase shift from formation to optimization;(3) the evolution of knowledge circuits follows a deep-to-shallow pattern. These insights not only advance our theoretical understanding of the mechanisms of new knowledge acquisition in LLMs, but also provide potential implications for improving continual pre-training strategies to enhance model performance Copyright © 2025, The Authors. A Rule-Guided Community Detection Method for Identifying Subpopulations in Medical data

Precisely identifying and explaining subpopulations in heterogeneous populations is essential to understanding the disease subtype. Using community detection to identify subpopulations is a promising way. However, there remains an issue in the existing community detection: Current methods for identifying subpopulations in medical data rely solely on separate attribute values, ignoring the important association rules between attribute values. Association rules are crucial in medical diagnosis to determine disease subtypes. Thus, We propose a rule-guided community detection (RGCD) method for precisely identifying homogeneous subpopulations. Specifically, the RGCD incorporates association rules into the original network, thereby constructing an augmented network. It proves that decomposing the embedding vectors obtained from biased random walks on the augmented network is equivalent to decomposing the transition probability matrix. Based on this proof, we enhance the transition probability matrix through rule-guided biased random walks, resulting in the rule-augmented matrix. By performing matrix decomposition and clustering on this matrix, we achieve precise identification of subpopulations. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that introduces the incorporation of association rules into community detection. Extensive experiments on 10 real-world datasets from medical fields fully show that the RGCD is more competitive than six state-of-the-art community detection methods. The weighted F1 of RGCD increases by up to 22.62%, compared to the best existing community detection methods. Furthermore, We provide a qualitative depiction of the subpopulations obtained through RGCD and acquire medically significant insights. © 2013 IEEE.

Functional connectivity networks (FCNs), particularly those utilizing the phase lag index (PLI) method, have been instrumental in elucidating the pathological features of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) by assessing the synchrony and lag of electroencephalogram (EEG) signal waveforms. Currently, the more prevalent methods are traditional FCNs that quantify phase synchronization as scalar values and dynamic FCNs (D-FCNs) that employ sliding window approaches to capture the instantaneous variations in functional connectivity. However, these two methods merely capture the low-level functional connections between paired regions of interest (ROIs) from both the static and dynamic perspectives, and fail to reflect the high-level functional connections involving multiple ROIs. Moreover, the feature dimension of the dynamic FCN is excessively high, and there exists a phase mismatch issue between different samples, which renders it impossible to be directly applied to the classification task, and no better solution is available at present. To mitigate these issues, we proposed a comprehensive framework that includes segmenting EEG sequences based on PLI to construct dynamic FCNs;employing seventh-order central moments for feature extraction to form low-order FCNs (Lo-FCNs);and establishing high-order FCNs (Ho-FCNs) based on Pearson correlation theory derived from Lo-FCNs. We conducted classification experiments across four distinct EEG frequency bands using our proposed framework while analyzing relevant features through graph theory and brain topological mapping techniques. The experiments showed that the proposed framework has a high classification accuracy rate in the classification experiments of MDD and NC, and proved the importance of high-order features in classification experiments, indicating that they may serve as physiological markers for MDD diagnosis. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The inherent complexity of Wi-Fi signals makes video-aided Wi-Fi 3D pose estimation difficult. The challenges include the limited generalizability of the task across diverse environments, its significant signal heterogeneity, and its inadequate ability to analyze local and geometric information. To overcome these challenges, we introduce WiViPose, a video-aided Wi-Fi framework for 3D pose estimation, which attains enhanced cross-environment generalization through cross-layer optimization. Bilinear temporal-spectral fusion (BTSF) is initially used to fuse the time-domain and frequency-domain features derived from Wi-Fi. Video features are derived from a multiresolution convolutional pose machine and enhanced by local self-attention. Cross-modality data fusion is facilitated through an attention-based transformer, with the process further refined under a supervisory mechanism. WiViPose demonstrates effectiveness by achieving an average percentage of correct keypoints (PCK)@50 of 91.01% across three typical indoor environments. © 2025 IEEE.

Any-Angle Routing Algorithm for Microfluidic Biochips Driven by Flow Path

Continuous-flow microfluidic biochips (CFMBs) have become a hot research topic in recent years due to their ability to perform biochemical assays automatically and efficiently. For the first time, PathDriver+ takes the requirements of the actual fluid transportation into account in the design process of CFMBs and implements the actual fluid transport and removal, and plans separate flow paths for each transport task, which have been neglected in previous work. However, PathDriver+ does not take full advantage of the flexibility of CFMBs routing because it only considers the optimization of flow channel length for the global routing in the mesh model, except for the detailed routing. In addition, PathDriver+ only considers the X architecture, while the existing work shows that the any-angle routing can utilize the routing resources more efficiently and shorten the flow channel length. To address the above issues, we propose a flow path-driven arbitrary angle routing algorithm, which can improve the utilization of routing resources and reduce the flow channel length while considering the actual fluid transportation requirements. The proposed algorithm constructs a search graph based on constrained Delaunay triangulation to improve the search efficiency of routing solutions while ensuring the routing quality. Then, a Dijkstra-based flow path routing method is used on the constructed search graph to generate a routing result with a short channel length quickly. In addition, in the routing process, channel reuse strategy and intersection optimization strategy are proposed for the flow path reuse and intersection number optimization problems, respectively, to further improve the quality of routing results. The experimental results show that compared with the latest work PathDriver+, the length of channels, the number of ports used, and the number of channel intersections are significantly reduced by 33.21%, 11.04%, and 44.79%, respectively, and the channel reuse rate is i
