Public Speaking Anxiety (PSA) is one of the most universal subtypes of social anxiety, and the facial expression recognition of PSA is an immediate area of research focus. The experiment obtained the facial expression data of 18 postgraduates in their thesis defense for the master's degree. Then, valid data were selected by using self-evaluation of the subject and the average evaluation of 5 audience. Next, the paper used Active Shape Model (ASM) algorithm for feature extraction of 68 feature points in 5 facial zones. Moreover, the paper applied support vector machine algorithm to recognize the social anxiety state according to the displacements of the feature points, and backward selection (BS) algorithm was used to find out the most important features in recognition. The result illustrated the validity of the method and obtained the best correct rate of 99% in the recognition of social anxiety state. Meanwhile, the maximum displacement zone in social anxiety state is jaw, and followed by mouth, eyebrow, eyes and nose. Obvious individual differences were found in the formation of anxious facial expression.

Physical stress has a direct impact on human health, which makes the detection of physical stress necessary in daily life. In this paper, we extracted tissue oxygen saturation (StO2) by hyperspectral imaging to detect and distinguish physical stress from relaxation state remotely. During the physical stress experiment, we observed that the facial StO2 right after the stress can be either increased and decreased comparing to the baseline, the StO2 after two minutes recovered towards the baseline. This changes of StO2 is reported for the first time. Based on the findings, we also located some useful ROIs on face for the detection of human physical stress.

Stress is an emotional state that is inevitable in social life, it is of great importance to accurately identify different types of stress. In this paper, we use human facial tissue oxygen saturation (StO2) to identify four states of an individual’s baseline, emotional stress, high-intensity physical stress and low-intensity physical stress. For the stress classification, we proposed a network called GLNet that combines global and local StO2 features. Specifically, GLNet learns local features from facial regions that provide the effective stress information and global features from the whole face. Then, the two features are fused at decision-level and classified. In addition, a new data augmentation method was proposed to address the data imbalance, which generates new data by constructing a mixed network called MixNet that fuses the depth features of multiple data. Experimental results show that MixNet can effectively alleviate the problem of data imbalance and GLNet combined with the data expanded by MixNet achieved the best performance compared to previous methods of StO2 stress recognition.

Because people with low vision have difficulty pur-chasing and taking the correct medicine and dosages on time, this paper presents a system with a Flask Server and Android application that assists low-vision people with using over-the-counter (OTC) medication correctly. The system is mainly divided into three parts: an Android application, a Flask server and a MongoDB database. The application provides a medication time reminder, medicine information retrieval and image capture for recognition functions. A server recognizes the medication package by combining optical character recognition (OCR) and an image classification convolutional neural network (CNN). A database is used to store and provide medicine information. The experimental results show that the recognition performance has up to 96.1% accuracy. Moreover, the approach is shown to be able to handle out-of-distribution images. © 2022 IEEE.

Micro-expression is a spontaneous facial expression, which may reveal people's real emotions. The micro-expression recognition has recently attracted much attention in psychology and computer vision community. In this paper, we designed a multi-stream Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) combined with the Capsule Network(CapsNet) *** CNNCapsNet, to improve the performance of micro-expression recognition. Firstly, both vertical and horizontal optical flow are computed from the onset to the apex, and from the apex to the offset frame respectively, which is the first time that the offset frame information has been taken into account in the field of micro-expression recognition. Secondly, these four optical flow images and the grayscale image of apex frame are input into the five-stream CNN model to extract features. Finally, CapsNet completes micro-expression recognition by learning the features extracted by CNN. The method proposed in this paper are evaluated using the Leave-One-Subject-Out (LOSO) cross-validation protocol on CASME II. The results show that the offset information, which is often neglected, is more important than onset information for the recognition task. Our CNNCapsNet framework can achieve the accuracy of 64.63% for the five-class micro-expression classification.

Strong and weak stress were elicited by real-scene thesis defense and pre-defending presentation of the thesis work, and tri-axial accelerometer data were acquired and analyzed for their ability to recognize strong and weak stress. Twenty-six subjects (7 females and 19 males) participated in the data acquisition experiment. A support vector machine classifier obtained a correct rate of 92.31% in the binary classification of the 26 subjects' tri-axial accelerometer data acquired during strong stress and weak stress.

According to previous studies, high anxiety leads to an increase in beta power, while pleasure and relaxation of emotion reduces beta power. In this experiment, the International Standard Picture Stimulation Library(IAPS) was used to induce positive and negative emotions of subjects, and EEG signals were collected when subjects were looking at pictures. Comparing the beta power of positive and negative EEG induced by before and after exercise, we found that the power of beta stimulated by positive and negative pictures before exercise is generally greater than that after exercise. It indicates that subjects were happier when facing positive stimuli than before exercise, and less negative emotions were produced when facing negative stimuli than before exercise. In short, acute moderate intensity exercise can improve people's negative emotion in the face of negative stimuli. The purpose of this study is to explore the mechanism of the effect of acute moderate intensity exercise on emotion by analyzing beta power in late positive potential (LPP).

This paper explored the difference between weak stress(WS) and strong stress(SS) on the relative ejection period(REP) of the blood volume pulse(BVP). Features were extracted from the REP series to recognize WS and SS. The blood volume pulse data were acquired during the defense of 31 graduate students for their master's degree under the real stress environment. The result shows that, in the real stress situation, the features of REP have obtained a correct rate of 91.93% in distinguishing strong stress state and weak stress state.
