The problem of pitch tracking has been extensively studied in the speech research community. The goal of this paper is to investigate how these techniques should be adapted to singing voice analysis, and to provide a comparative evaluation of the most representative state-of-the-art approaches. This study is carried out on a large database of annotated singing sounds with aligned EGG recordings, comprising a variety of singer categories and singing exercises. The algorithmic performance is assessed according to the ability to detect voicing boundaries and to accurately estimate pitch contour. First, we evaluate the usefulness of adapting existing methods to singing voice analysis. Then we compare the accuracy of several pitch-extraction algorithms, depending on singer category and laryngeal mechanism. Finally, we analyze their robustness to reverberation. In this contribution we propose two new iterative precoder and equalizer designs for the Downlink (DL) scenario of Multi-User (MU)-MIMO systems which employ Filter Bank based Multi-Carrier (FBMC) with Offset-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (O-QAM). In a MU-MIMO DL scenario, we must design our per-subcarrier filters to compensate the inter-symbol and inter-carrier interference (ISI and ICI) present in an FBMC/OQAM system in addition to multi-user interference (MUI). The first method presented takes advantage of the Mean Squared Error (MSE)-duality to design Minimum MSE (MMSE)-based precoders and equalizers. The second method looks at maximizing the signal-to-Leakage Ratio (SLR) in the transmitter and the signal-to-Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) in the receiver. Through numerical simulations we will evaluate the performance of these methods and compare them to recent approaches found in the literature. © VDE VERLAG GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach, Germany.

In this contribution we propose two new designs of transmit and receive processing for multi-user multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) downlink systems that employ filter bank based multicarrier with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC/OQAM). Our goal is to overcome the limits on the channel frequency selectivity and/or the allowed number of receive antennas per user terminal that are imposed on the state-of-the-art solutions. In the first method the design of precoders and equalizers is iterative and minimum mean square error (MMSE) based. The second is a closed-form design based on the signal-to-leakage ratio (SLR). Via numerical simulations we evaluate the performance of both methods and demonstrate their superiority over two other approaches in the literature. © 2015 IEEE.

This paper provides solutions for per-user multistream transmissions in FBMC/OQAM based multi-user MIMO downlink systems under highly frequency selective propagation conditions. A signal-to-leakage-plus-noise-ratio (SLNR) based metric is proposed, and it is tailored for the downlink of FBMC/OQAM-based multi-user MIMO settings. Then at the base station, per-subcarrier fractionally spaced multi-tap precoders are computed based on this metric to mitigate the multi-user interference (MUI), the inter-symbol interference (ISI), as well as the inter-carrier interference (ICI) and to map the multiple data streams of each user to the transmit antennas. With the base station carrying most of the computational load, each user terminal only employs a zero-forcing (ZF) based one-tap spatial equalizer to recover the desired streams. Simulation results show that the proposed SLNR based precoding scheme achieves satisfactory performances in various multi-user MIMO downlink scenarios. It significantly outperforms the existing algorithms that require the channel on each subcarrier to be flat fading. © VDE Verlag GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach, Germany.

Our main emphasis is on the use of enhanced OFDM and filter bank based multicarrier (FB-MC) waveforms for utilizing effectively the available fragmented spectrum in heterogeneous radio environments. Special attention is on the broadband-narrowband coexistence scenario of the Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) evolution. The target here is to provide broadband data services in coexistence with narrowband legacy services of the TETRA family. The core idea is a multi-mode radio platform, based on variable filter bank processing, which is able to perform modulation/detection functions simultaneously for different signal formats with adjustable center frequencies, bandwidths and subchannel spacings.

Multicarrier communication technologies are promising candidates for 4G wireless access systems. In this paper, we focus on the downlink of multicellular networks and we investigate the influence of the inter-cell interference in an unsynchronized frequency division duplex (FDD) context with a frequency resuse of 1. We compare the conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with cyclic prefix modulation (CP-OFDM) and the filter bank based multi-carrier modulation (FBMC). Two tables modeling the mean interference power are given and show that, in FBMC case, the interference is more localized than in OFDM case. Finally, these tables are used to evaluate performance in terms of average capacity in FBMC multi-cell networks compared to CP-OFDM ones.

In this paper we present a new method for the decomposition of musical sounds into causal and anticausal contributions. The algorithm is based on a particular separation of zeros of the Z-Transform (ZZT) of signal frames, currently used in speech processing for glottal source parameters estimation. Acoustics of two particular continuous interaction instruments (CII) - trumpet and violin - is discussed and the use of a mixed-phase model for synthesis is proposed. First results are presented and relevance of extracted causal and anticausal contributions is evaluated.
