Distributing Potential Games on Graphs Part II. Learning with application to platoon matching

In part I of the paper the problem of distributing potential games over undirected graphs was formulated. A restricted information potential game was designed using state-based formulation. Here, learning Nash equilibria for this game is studied. An algorithm is developed with mainly two phases, an estimation phase and a learning phase. The setting allows for available learning methods of the full information game to be directly incorporated in the learning phase. The result matches the outcome (i.e. converges to the same equilibria) of the full information game. In addition, the design takes into account considerations of convergence time, and synchrony of actions update. The developed distributed game and learning algorithm are used to solve a platoon matching problem for heavy duty vehicles. This serves two objectives. First, it provides a motivation for the presented gaming results. Second, the problem addressed can facilitate platoon matching where it provides a basis for an on-the-go strategy.

In our study, we aimed to explore the psychiatric disorders, risk factors, and predictors of self-immolation among individuals admitted to Shahid Motahari Hospital in Tehran from 2019 to 2020. This cross-sectional study examines 64 hospitalized patients who received psychiatric counseling following self-immolation incidents. The rate of self-immolation varies significantly based on specific demographics. It is observed that in our population men had a higher rate of being unmarried (70.96 % vs 15.15 %), lower levels of education (70.96 % vs 63.63 % did not have a university degree), higher level of unemployment (54.83 % vs 30.30 %), younger age average with most men aging 15–24 (29.06 (SD = 9.33)) vs women 35–44 (35.27(SD = 10.27)) and higher prevalence of addiction (67.74 % vs 36.36 %) compared to women. On the other hand, women who attempted self-immolation mainly were married, involved in housekeeping, and tended to exhibit higher rates of depression (63.63 % vs 32.25 %) than men. Furthermore, these self-immolation incidents are often impulsive (64.1 %) and occur shortly (under an hour) after experiencing a stressor (39.1 %). Self-immolation accidents are frequently carried out using gasoline (50 %). Geographically, the majority of self-immolation cases of our study are concentrated in the central region of Iran (76.6 %), followed by the western region (15.6 %) this may be due to the proximity of these regions to our center while patients of other regions were hospitalized in their referral hospitals and were rarely transferred to the capital. To effectively address the issue of self-immolation and reduce its prevalence, it is essential to identify vulnerable populations and explore targeted preventive measures. Based on our findings, future pilot studies could investigate the feasibility of specific interventions, such as crisis hotlines to reduce impulsivity-related acts of self-immolation. Adaptive control for flow and volume regulation in multi-producer district heating systems

Flow and storage volume regulation is essential for the adequate transport and management of energy resources in district heating systems. In this letter, we propose a novel and suitably tailored-decentralized-adaptive control scheme addressing this problem whilst offering closed-loop stability guarantees. We focus on a system configuration comprising multiple heat producers, consumers and storage tanks exchanging energy through a common distribution network, which are features of modern and prospective district heating installations. Combining Trajectory Data with Analytical Lyapunov Functions for Improved Region of Attraction Estimation

The increasing uptake of inverter based resources (IBRs) has resulted in many new challenges for power system operators around the world. The high level of complexity of IBR generators makes accurate classical model-based stability analysis a difficult task. This paper proposes a novel methodology for solving the problem of estimating the Region of Attraction (ROA) of a nonlinear system by combining classical model based methods with modern data driven methods. Our method yields certifiable inner approximations of the ROA, typical to that of model based methods, but also harnesses trajectory data to yield an improved accurate ROA estimation. The method is carried out by using analytical Lyapunov functions, such as energy functions, in combination with data that is used to fit a converse Lyapunov function. Our methodology is independent of the function fitting method used. In this work, for implementation purposes, we use Bernstein polynomials to function fit. Several numerical examples of ROA estimation are provided, including the Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) system, a three machine system and the Van-der-Pol system. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. There is little room for doubt that distributed generation systems including renewable energy, microgrids (MGs), combined heat and power (CHP) units and storage systems have been of particular importance in sustaining low-carbon and cost-effective operations due to the tremendous increase in greenhouse gas emissions in recent years. Additionally, hydrogen-based power technologies have earned a great deal of publicity that hydrogen can serve as a zero-emission fuel for electrical power and thermal energy production. In this regard, the current paper proposes an optimal energy management strategy for a combined hydrogen, heat, and power MG (CHHP-MG) with hydrogen fueling stations (HFSs) for hydrogen vehicles (HVs), electric vehicle parking lots (EVPLs) and fuel cell micro-CHP (FC-MCHP) units to meet power and heat requirements. In order to reduce the regular operating expense, the presented CHHP-MG could also communicate with both electricity and hydrogen markets. In addition, to compensate for the associated heat and hydrogen requirements, power-to-X technologies such as the power to heat (P2HT) and power to hydrogen (P2H) are integrated. In order to improve flexibility and build a low carbon MG, multi-energy storage (MES) system along with heat and power demand response (HPDR) programs will be taken into consideration. As the uncertainties associated with the predicted wind and photovoltaic power have a major impact on the energy management of the CHHP-MG, a multi-objective information gap decision theory (IGDT)-based robust approach is applied as an effective non-probabilistic modeling technique for handling such uncertainties. The empirical results show that the proposed model can efficiently handle the uncertainties and reduce the overall operation cost by 76.35%. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd

Dynamic logic has become a niche approach in circuit design, mainly due to the reliability limitations that have been aggravated with process down-scaling. To that extent, the performance and area benefits of dynamic design approaches, such as the integration of the Clocked CMOS (C 2 MOS) approach, are left on the table. In this article, we propose employing the Three-Independent-Gate Field-Effect Transistor (TIGFET) technology for the implementation of the C 2 MOS approach, which we call the Clocked Complementary TIG (C 2 TIG) approach. electrical simulations at 22nm demonstrate the enhanced robustness of the C 2 TIG approach, while providing gains in power, performance, and area. Finally, new design opportunities for synchronous systems are demonstrated with the C 2 TIG approach.

Structural reduction of CRNs with linear sub-CRNs

A novel systems theory-based structural reduction method is proposed in this paper that can be applied to chemical reaction networks (CRNs) including subsystems consisting of linear reactions, i.e. a linear sub-CRN. The reduced model is a delayed CRN with distributed delays having less complexes (monomials) and reactions than the original model. The reduction is based on the fact that the input/output response of a linear sub-CNR can be seen as a time-delayed input to output relationship, therefore linear sub-CNRs can be interpreted as reactions with distributed delay from their input to their output complexes. The practically important example of a kinetic model describing the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic is used as a case study to illustrate the basic concepts and the computation method.

Defect engineering in metal oxides presents a promising approach for tailoring material properties. This strategy enhances gas sorption, catalysis, and control over key physical characteristics such as bandgap, magnetic behavior, and electrical conductivity. Despite its potential, the role of defect engineering in advancing metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas-sensing performance remains underexplored. This review introduces defect engineering strategies, emphasizing their applications in gas sensing. Gas sensors play a vital role in environmental monitoring, industrial safety, healthcare, and in improving energy efficiency. The demand for advanced gas sensors has never been more critical, given the need for real-time, accurate, and cost-effective detection of pollutant gases. MOS-based gas sensors are widely used in air quality monitoring, industrial safety, and health diagnostics. Vacancies and defect architectures in MOS have been widely studied for their role in sensing performance, as they fundamentally influence sensor efficiency. The effectiveness of MOS sensors largely depends on the type and concentration of defects. This review introduces vacancies and defects in MOS, followed by an in-depth discussion of defect types, factors influencing defect formation, and their role in charge transport. Additionally, it examines the correlation between elemental chemical properties and defect chemistry. Special attention is given to the defect chemistry of metal oxides, including TiO₂, ZnO, Co₃O₄, ZrO₂, WO₃, and CeO₂. It concludes with an examination of surface engineering methods for defect control to improve gas-sensing capabilities. © 2024

Utility coupling promotes cooperation in multiplayer snowdrift games on interdependent simplicial networks

Real-world social networks often contain not only one-to-one pairwise interactions, but also multi-person group interactions involving more than two individuals. To reveal the important role of such group interactions (i.e., higher order topology) for the evolution of cooperation, we here use interdependent simplicial network topologies, where the evolutionary interactions, governed by the snowdrift game, are thus explored beyond pairwise links. We also consider utility coupling between two network layers in an uncorrelated interdependence. Systematic Monte Carlo simulations lead us to two main conclusions. First, we find that the level of cooperation can be elevated by increasing the utility coupling value. And second, cooperation tends to decline when we increase the number of 2-simplex interactions. However, despite the later result, the overall cooperation level on both interdependent networks is still higher than that on any isolated network. We hope that these results will inspire future research on cooperation among unrelated individuals in higher order networks.

During the direct touch of the inverter output voltage, the nonsinusoidal ground currents with a basic harmonic frequency between 1.5 kHz and 16 kHz, flow via a human’s body. Here was proved that Residual Current Device (RCD) type AC/I∆n = 30 mA does not switch off the power supply when a ground current with a value of about some hundred milliamps occurs. Because RCDs do not disconnect the power supply, the touch on the inverter’s voltage is dangerous to the health and life. For the authors, RCD usage in Voltage Frequency Converters is not a good engineer practice.
