The development of the Production Unit Performance Management Tool (PUPMT), a monitoring and diagnostic tool to select basic signals that have a significant impact on output KPIs, is based on a hierarchical analysis of key performance indicators presented in the ISO 22400 standard. The growing number of quantified signals, such as ambient temperature or even the frequency of vibrations makes decision support tools more intelligent. Moreover, they also include predictive analysis in addition to online presentation of the current state of resources. PUPMT tool allows identifying key events that have a significant impact on current or future benefit in production output. It also allows what-if type analysis, running the simulation of the impact of the proposed changes, and the results of this simulation depend on the effects of similar changes that occurred in the past in a given smart manufacturing environment. Thanks to the automatic identification of potential dependencies, the proposed solution adapts to the specifics of a given environment or even a selected production unit. The paper describes the most important methods featured in the tool. Specifically, it considers a signal classification method, a signal correlation analysis and selection of key factors affecting the efficiency of the production process. In order to verify the methods various tests were carried out to calculate and control of OEE index on 20 production units. Finally, we conclude current results and future research directions.

Despite substantial declines since 2000, lower respiratory infections (LRIs), diarrhoeal diseases, and malaria remain among the leading causes of nonfatal and fatal disease burden for children under 5 years of age (under 5), primarily in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The spatial burden of each of these diseases has been estimated subnationally across SSA, yet no prior analyses have examined the pattern of their combined burden. Here we synthesise subnational estimates of the burden of LRIs, diarrhoea, and malaria in children under-5 from 2000 to 2017 for 43 sub-Saharan countries. Some units faced a relatively equal burden from each of the three diseases, while others had one or two dominant sources of unit-level burden, with no consistent pattern geographically across the entire subcontinent. Using a subnational counterfactual analysis, we show that nearly 300 million DALYs could have been averted since 2000 by raising all units to their national average. Our findings are directly relevant for decision-makers in determining which and targeting where the most appropriate interventions are for increasing child survival. © 2022, The Author(s).

The aim of this article is to show problems with the analysis of various cognitive disorders in the registered EEG signal and the effects of the neurofeedback therapy. Most of the disorders tested in ICD-10 have electroencephalographic readings associated with Beta bands and slow waves. All problems with attention deficit have similar records in the EEG signal and similar training protocols are used in their therapy and the results of the therapy are visible in more than 10 training sessions.

A Radial basis function based optimization algorithm with regular simplex set geometry in ellipsoidal trust-regions

We present a novel derivative-free interpolation based optimization algorithm. A trust-region method is used where a surrogate model is realised via an interpolation framework. The framework for interpolation is provided by Universal Kriging. A first contribution focusses on the development of an original sampling strategy. A valid model is guaranteed by maintaining a well-poised subset that exhibits the regular simplex geometry approximately. It follows that this strategy improves the scattering of points with respect to the state-of-the-art and, even importantly, assures that the surrogate model exhibits curvature. A second contribution focusses on the generalisation of the spherical trust-region geometry to an ellipsoidal geometry, that to account for local anisotropy of the objective function and to improve the interpolation conditions as seen from the output space. The ensemble method is validated against its direct competitors on a set of multidimensional problems. This paper considers the controller design problem for parameter-varying distributed systems, whose time/space-varying dynamics can be characterized by temporal/spatial linear parameter-varying (LPV) models defined at the spatially-discretized subsystems. Assuming a rational functional dependence on the scheduling parameters, the distributed LPV model in linear fractional transformation (LFT) form renders analysis and synthesis conditions at the subsystems level with the application of Finsler's lemma and the full block S-procedure technique. The designed distributed controller inherits the interconnected structure of the plant and has a (predefined) fixed structure. Simulation results using a spatially-varying heat equation demonstrate the satisfactory performance of the proposed control design method. © 2017

Magnetic resonance-electrical properties tomography (MR-EPT) is a technique used to estimate the conductivity and permittivity of tissues from MR measurements of the transmit magnetic field. Different reconstruction methods are available, however all these methods present several limitations which hamper the clinical applicability. Standard Helmholtz based MR-EPT methods are severely affected by noise. Iterative reconstruction methods such as contrast source inversion-EPT (CSI-EPT) are typically time consuming and are dependent on their initialization. Deep learning (DL) based methods require a large amount of training data before sufficient generalization can be achieved. Here, we investigate the benefits achievable using a hybrid approach, i.e. using MR-EPT or DL-EPT as initialization guesses for standard 3D CSI-EPT. Using realistic electromagnetic simulations at 3 T and 7 T, the accuracy and precision of hybrid CSI reconstructions are compared to standard 3D CSI-EPT reconstructions. Our results indicate that a hybrid method consisting of an initial DL-EPT reconstruction followed by a 3D CSI-EPT reconstruction would be beneficial. DL-EPT combined with standard 3D CSI-EPT exploits the power of data driven DL-based EPT reconstructions while the subsequent CSI-EPT facilitates a better generalization by providing data consistency. A comparison of nonsmooth, nonconvex, constrained optimization solvers for the design of time-delay compensators

We present a detailed set of performance comparisons of two state-of-the-art solvers for the application of designing time-delay compensators, an important problem in the field of robust control. Formulating such robust control mechanics as constrained optimization problems often involves objective and constraint functions that are both nonconvex and nonsmooth, both of which present significant challenges to many solvers and their end-users hoping to obtain good solutions to these problems. In our particular engineering task, the main difficulty in the optimization arises in a nonsmooth and nonconvex stability constraint, which states that the infinite spectrum of zeros of the so-called shaper should remain in the open left half-plane. To perform our evaluation, we make use β-relative minimization profiles, recently introduced visualization tools that are particularly suited for benchmarking solvers on nonsmooth, nonconvex, constrained optimization problems. Furthermore, we also introduce new visualization tools, called Global-Local Profiles, which for a given problem and a fixed computational budget, assess the tradeoffs of distributing the budget over few or many starting points, with the former getting more budget per point and latter less. To model the interdependent couplings of multiple topics, we develop a set of rules for opinion updates of a group of agents. The rules are used to design or assign values to the elements of interdependent weighting matrices. The cooperative and anti-cooperative couplings are modeled in both the inverse-proportional and proportional feedbacks. The behaviors of cooperative opinion dynamics are analyzed using a null space property of state-dependent matrix-weighted Laplacian matrices and a Lyapunov candidate. Various consensus properties of state-dependent matrix-weighted Laplacian matrices are predicted according to the intra-agent network topology and interdependency topical coupling topologies. A lyapunov-based small-gain theorem for infinite networks

This paper presents a small-gain theorem for networks composed of a countably infinite number of finite-dimensional subsystems. Assuming that each subsystem is exponentially input-to-state stable, we show that if the gain operator, collecting all the information about the internal Lyapunov gains, has a spectral radius less than one, the overall infinite network is exponentially input-to-state stable.
