This article describes the design and development of an arm that measures human physical condition controlled by a Programmable Logic controller (PLC), ensuring system control, adjustment, and display of necessary results. A user-friendly interface, both local and remote, will be designed and implemented. The system incorporates safety features to ensure the safety of individuals. The design and implementation are based on a digital twin linked to the control system, including simulation. This approach accelerates the development of application implementation with the possibility of creating control programs for the PLC and fine-tuning the system during the design phase. Safety functions ensuring the safety of tested individuals are applied. The developed system will be portable and will serve for scientific experiments, presentation activities, and as an educational tool.

Our article deals with the Edge device model focusing on high-availability of Long-Range Wide Area (LoRaWAN) sensors for business-critical applications. We focus on creating a suitable Edge device model that ensures the high availability of sensor data for specific critical applications. The model was implemented in Node-RED software, based on the MQTT protocol, and subsequently validated to confirm the required duplication of LoRaWAN sensors values for application. In case of single failure, Edge model enables uninterrupted flow of sensors data for their processing by critical applications.

The article deals with the integration of Lo(ng) Ra(nge) Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) sensors with generic manufacturing applications and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) use-cases. The focus is on creating a suitable Edge device model that enables the integration of specific Long Range (LoRa) sensors together with the other generic Internet of Things (IoT/IIoT). The model is based on the Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture (OPC UA) standard, which is the most suitable integration platform for various control systems and manufacturing applications. The model was implemented in Node-RED software and subsequently validated to confirm the required integration of LoRaWAN sensors within OPC UA models. In contrast to other approaches based on integration gateway or LoRaWAN/OPC UA protocol convertors, the proposed model utilizes extended capabilities of Edge computing. It enables Edge processing and data transformation of LoRaWAN sensors data transferred by Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol from the network server, based on requirements of manufacturing applications for cloud solutions.

This study investigates the relationship between the diameter of a D-shaped plastic optical fiber (POF) sensor and its optical response as a function of varying salt concentrations. A simple and efficient dry etching polishing technique was employed to create D-shaped POF sensors with a range of diameters. All the fabricated sensors were carefully developed to maintain a consistent length of 20 cm with a sensing region of 1cm. To evaluate the optical intensity response, each sensor, with its respective diameter, was examined with the salt concentration ranging from (0 to 5%) examination utilizing a spectrometer. The sensor response was characterized by quantifying the variations observed in the intensity of the optical signal propagating through the sensing region. The sensors having a diameter of 500 μm, 700 μm, and 900 μm had a sensitivity of 149 A.U/%salt, 66 A.U/%salt, and 11.2 A.U/%salt respectively. The sensitivity of the 500 μm diameter sensor increased 13 times approximately as compared to the sensor having diameter of 900 μm. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Nowadays the installation of distributed energy resources (DERs) is very popular all over the world. DERs bring partial independence from the external grid, fewer interruptions in the electric supply, economic benefits, improvement of the electrical energy quality and the green energy to the systems of the prosumers. However, they also bring network congestions and increase the complexity of the energy management especially when the renewable DERs with their inconstant generation profiles are used. One of the possible solutions for these problems for the prosumers is to organize and join an energy community. Energy community members can both exchange electrical energy to maintain energy balance and sell excess energy to the operator. There are two basic energy management strategies for the community members: collective and individual. This paper focuses on determining the most beneficial one by simulating an energy community with different levels of cooperation and assessing multiple parameters. © 2021 IEEE.

Memristors are nano-devices, which, in some of their physical realisations, feature multiple operating modes, allowing data to be alternatively sensed, stored, or processed. Their multi-functionality, which resembles the operating principles of neural structures in the brain, in conjunction with the ease of their fabrication, which is typically carried out on top of underlying CMOS circuitry, at the regularly-spaced spaced crossings of crossbar matrices, composed of two vertically-adjacent and perpendicular sets of parallel metal lines, makes their use in integrated circuit design ideally suitable for enhancing the performance of state-of-the-art computing machines without the need to shrink the sizes of CMOS transistors any further. Given the extraordinary opportunities, which memristors open up in the field of Artificial Intelligence, gaining a deep understanding of their inherently-nonlinear dynamics is of primary importance. Fading memory is the capability of a system to display a unique steady state under a stimulus from a given class. Fading memory effects in a memristive medium were first discovered in 2016 through a comprehensive experimental and theoretical investigation of the switching dynamics of a TaOx ReRAM cell. Recently, a bifurcation study of a predictive model of the same nanostructure revealed how it may also exhibit bi-stability under suitable AC periodic excitation. Bi-stability is essentially a local form of fading memory. This paper gains a deeper insight into the local fading memory properties of the TaOx ReRAM cell, demonstrating how the existence domain for its memory state may be in fact partitioned in a tuneable number of basins of attraction, each of which includes all the initial conditions, from which the memristor would settle into one of the admissible locally-stable oscillatory steady states. © 2023 IEEE.

In autonomous multi-robot systems robot-to {robot/object} localization methods can be utilized to increase the robustness and to achieve a precise and robust localization of the individuals. This paper investigates on the performance of two promising systems: UVDAR, a vision-based mutual localization in the UV spectrum, which has shown to be effective in swarm formation and leader-following tasks, and PoET, which is a deep learning-based visual relative object pose estimator. To evaluate these methods, we collected datasets in a controlled indoor environment equipped with a motion capture system for precise ground truth measurements. Our evaluation considers two key aspects: the absolute error between measured and true relative poses, and the consistency of the provided measurement uncertainty estimates with the actual errors. We introduce a novel framework for evaluating the consistency of relative pose measurements. This framework supports various error definitions and leverages spline-based trajectory representations to generate smooth, $C^control$ -continuous reference measurements. Both the UVDAR dataset and the evaluation framework are made publicly accessible to foster further research and development in this field.

This work proposes a novel architecture for constructing remote laboratories, employing modular building blocks: Matlab/Simulink software for control system design and simulation, WebSocket communication technology for continuous data exchange, and a front-end application developed using the Angular framework. To facilitate WebSocket communication on the Matlab server side, the MatlabWebSocket library is implemented. Beyond the Angular framework, interactivity within the remote laboratory is further enhanced through 3D visualization of the controlled system using a *** based library. These combined technologies are applied in the development of a remote laboratory for a fast, unstable, and nonlinear magnetic levitation system. The laboratory allows users to remotely set desired values and control parameters for experiments, while also providing continuous data visualization in various forms, including numerical readouts, graphs, and 3D animations. This approach demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed architecture for building remote laboratories for complex systems.

This paper studied the design of a predictive current control strategy with fault tolerance and reactive power minimization applied to a multi-modular topology based on indirect 2-level matrix converters fed by a six-phase generator. The control algorithm of the proposed strategy involves coupled current signals to perform error compensation between the converter modules, aiming to address potential system faults while maintaining reactive power close to zero. The results, obtained through simulation, were evaluated considering each module’s input and output currents and the final load current, as well as reactive power minimization, incorporating the obtained values of total harmonic distortion and mean squared error. The behaviour was analyzed in steady-state and transient conditions, with the system operating nominally and under fault conditions. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and good performance of the proposed strategy with the utilized topology, achieving a satisfactory response to faults through compensation and constant reactive power minimization. © 2024 IEEE.
