This paper proposes a robust method for automatic tuning of parameters of a discrete PID controller. The tuning rules for SISO and MIMO systems are based on automatic determination of critical gain and critical frequency from the estimated model parameters. The plant model can be expressed by a transfer function in continuous and/or discrete form or by differential and/or difference equation. A simple control law using Takahashi discrete form is proposed. Simulations results prove that it is easy to use being able to handle minimum and nonminimum phase plant as well.

This paper presents a novel multiple access scheme, which is a combination of inhibit sense multiple access (ISMA) and code division multiple access (CDMA), for the indoor wireless computer communications (IWCC). This new multiple access scheme is called hybrid ISMA/CDMA protocol. The performance of hybrid ISMA/CDMA protocol is evaluated in terms of throughput and the probability of packet errors. A similar protocol has been proposed earlier which is known as hybrid CDMA/ISMA protocol. A comparison between the two protocols is discussed and conclusions are drawn based on the computed results.

Pulsewidth modulation, similar to voltage-space vector control in switches utilizing a field programmable gate array, is compared with PSpice simulation in a three switches converter is presented. The PSpice simulation is used in time domain simulation of the rectifier and inverter circuit. The PSpice PWM simulation modelled is compared with the experiment which is implemented in a field programmable gate array based on a carrier frequency of 19.2 kHz. The PWM is applied to the converter operated as a step-down converter where the output voltage can be controlled by the modulation index in the range of 0 to 1.5 V/spl circ//sub ph/. Simulation and experimental results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model.

The principal aim of this paper is to present a new algorithm for the control of continuous time linear systems with a large relative degree and unknown parameters. If the standard approach is used for these systems, the controller structure is very complicated and implementation is problematic. A comparative study of two classes of model reference adaptive control methods is also presented. Finally, simulation results are also presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Because of its capability of high-speed search, the associative memory (CAM) is expected to be used in a variety of information processing systems. In this paper, novel fault-tolerant techniques which are effective for on-line use are proposed for TLB which is an example of the application of CAM. First, fault and error models of the TLB consisting of the CAM part and the SRAM part are clarified. Then, the fault-tolerant techniques for these faults and errors, such as distance separable technique, cod-ing technique, simplified 1-out-of-n check and graceful degradation, are proposed. The distance separable technique which encodes the data stored in the CAM part is the one which masks the faulty CAM part and prevents errors from propagating to the subsequent circuits. The coding technique checks the one-to-one correspondence between the data in the CAM and those in SRAM by using the SEC-DED code with byte error detection capability, i.e., SEC-DED-SbED code, and at the same time it detects and corrects errors in the data stored in SRAM. The simplified 1-out-of-n check processes association errors. The graceful degradation gives a flag in the faulty memory section and prevents it from being used. The methods proposed in this paper are evaluated from area augmentation and error detection capability perspectives. The results show that the fault-tolerant TLB with 32 virtual address bits, 32 physical address bits and 128 entries gives single fault detection probability of nearly 99 percent with 28 percent area increase.

This paper treats the parallel-form realization of two-dimensional (2-D) adaptive state-space filters whose transfer functions are separable in the denominator. The adaptive filters are described by the Roesser local state-space (LSS) model, and the least mean squares (LMS) method is used here to adjust the filter parameters. First, the Roesser LSS model with separable denominator is realized in a parallel form. Then the stability condition of the tilter is shown. Next, the LMS method is employed to adjust the filter parameters in the parallel form. In addition, the computational time and the number of processors required for the realization are investigated. Finally, the adaptive filter is applied in numerical examples to the 2-D spatial-domain filter design and to the noise reduction of an image.

A computational ordering and code generation method for DSP compiler, which take the target DSP architecture, i.e., the number of accumulators, bus structure and multi-operation instruction code, into consideration is proposed. By combining computation ordering and code generation into one step, a better outcome code of DSP compiler may be obtained. Although only /spl mu/PD 7720 is used as target DSP in this work, the method may be applied to other DSPs.

This paper addresses the design of a selftuning controller for linear and non-linear dynamic systems. Modelling of nonlinear dynamic systems is realized using the expanded Voltera kernels by orthonormal Laguerre functions in a continuous and a discrete form. A predictive nonlinear control law is derived on the base of the Laguerre polynomials in a recursive form. The proposed control law has many benefits (simple use. easy handling of varying time delay and nonminimum phase behaviour, etc.). The method outlined in this paper presents new trends in design of control of nonlinear plants using selftuning DDC algorithms. The theoretical part of the paper presents several modifications of modelling and control algorithms design yielding new results with proof of convergency properties for Laguerre spectra estimation procedure. Practical problems solutions are involved.

The supervisory control problem in the discrete event dynamic systems (DEDS) is formulated using input-state-output system structure. A class of the Petri nets is defined enabling an effective and practically useful representation of the structural and dynamic properties of DEDS. A solution of the supervisory control using the Petri nets and the corresponding reachability graphs is presented and illustrated on an example.
