In recent years, time series prediction has become a highly interesting topic in various applied areas, including clinical time series analysis. Hospitals and other clinical healthcare systems collect Electronic Health Records. These records contain important information that needs to be mined. This information provides a solid basis for predicting hospital readmission, helping to improve healthcare, enhance patient outcomes, and optimize hospital resources. This study introduces a novel deep learning attention-based approach for predicting 30-day ICU readmissions using clinical time series information extracted from the MIMIC III dataset. This approach incorporates time-aware positional encoding into the attention mechanism to enhance predictive performance by capturing the temporal representation of data and considering the temporal order of clinical time series data. This model is compared with cutting-edge models. The significant enhancements in the model performance achieved by the proposed method highlight the effectiveness of incorporating time-aware positional encoding in capturing temporal dependencies and improving prediction outcomes. These results underscore the potential of advanced attention mechanisms in clinical time series analysis.

Laser-induced graphene(LIG)has been exploited in various fields,such as batteries,water treatment,and flexible actuators and sensors,with the advantages of ease in patternable fabrication and graphene/metal hybrid *** in situ method which includes a single lase step and the ex situ method which uses two lase steps are both widely implemented to synthesize graphene/metal ***,the differences in the structures and properties of the resulting hybrids are not fully ***,we investigate the advantages of ex situ and in situ methods for preparing LIG hybrids using NiFe/LIG as an *** morphology,elemental composition,resistance to strong acid,and application in electrocatalysis and dye adsorption of ex situ and in situ NiFe/LIG hybrids were systematically studied and ***-dispersive X-ray spectrometry(EDS)and vibrating sample magnetometry(VSM)results confirmed the structural differences between the NiFe/LIG *** nanoparticles are mostly wrapped by carbon layers in the in situ NiFe/LIG hybrid,while the ex situ NiFe/LIG hybrid largely exposes the metal *** structural differences are significant for tailoring performance in applications,such as wastewater treatment and *** work provides insights into the synthesis and properties of LIGs and has important implications for future applications.

This research explores a new finite element model for the free vibration analysis of bi-directional functionally graded (BDFG) beams. The model is based on an efficient higher-order shear deformation beam theory that incorporates a trigonometric warping function for both transverse shear deformation and stress to guarantee traction-free boundary conditions without the necessity of shear correction factors. The proposed two-node beam element has three degrees of freedom per node, and the inter-element continuity is retained using both C1 and C0 continuities for kinematics variables. In addition, the mechanical properties of the (BDFG) beam vary gradually and smoothly in both the in-plane and out-of-plane beam’s directions according to an exponential power-law distribution. The highly elevated performance of the developed model is shown by comparing it to conceptual frameworks and solution procedures. Detailed numerical investigations are also conducted to examine the impact of boundary conditions, the bi-directional gradient indices, and the slenderness ratio on the free vibration response of BDFG beams. The suggested finite element beam model is an excellent potential tool for the design and the mechanical behavior estimation of BDFG structures. © 2024 Techno-Press, Ltd.

Innate Cyber-Immunity and Acquired Cyber-Immunity across Multi-Area Power systems

Organisms have evolved innate and acquired immune systems to defend against pathogens like coronaviruses. Similarly, power networks, threatened by cyber-attacks, desire cyber-immunity. Inspired by the immunology research, this study develops a cyber-immune strategy-characterizing innate cyber-immunity and establishing acquired cyber-immunity-for any selected portion of a power network (termed as power subnetwork) against stealthy false data injection (FDI) cyberattacks. Therein, without extrinsic protection and information asymmetry, this paper for the first time confirms the existence and provides closed-form conditions for power subnetworks that are innately immune to FDI cyber-attacks despite all measurements being compromised. Single-leader-multi-follower bi-level optimization models are then developed to strategically allocate measurement protection, leading to the acquired cyber-immunity, whose conditions for existence and the least cost are explicitly formulated. More importantly, a bi-directional cyber-immunity propagation mechanism is presented to provide the optimal spatial allocation of defense resources across adjacent subnetworks. It also explicitly determines the temporal allocation sequence, revealing its sequential and cumulative impacts on establishing cyber-immunity. This is achieved by designing recursive traversal algorithms, one of which is modelled as a post-order depth-first-search problem of a multi-fork tree. The proposed subnetwork-specific cyber-immune strategy is verified in a modified Australian National Electricity Market. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

Uplink control information (UCI) and discontinuous reception (DRX) play important roles for massive machine type communication (mMTC). Despite their standalone significance, a conspicuous gap exists in comprehensively exploring the synergy between UCI and DRX concerning both energy conservation and latency reduction for mMTC. In this letter, we propose a UCI-based clustered access and DRX management (UCADM) scheme that strikes a balance between these two critical performance metrics, reducing energy usage while preserving low latency in uplink-downlink interaction for mMTC. Specifically, we present a strictly feasible solution for the proposed UCADM scheme by using the spectral radius and the constraint projection, which can effectively solve DRX switching operations as indicated by scheduling information from UCI. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of our scheme. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Oil production estimation plays a critical role in economic plans for local governments and ***,many studies applied different Artificial Intelligence(AI)based meth-ods to estimate oil production in different *** Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS)is a well-known model that has been successfully employed in various applica-tions,including time-series ***,the ANFIS model faces critical shortcomings in its parameters during the configuration *** this point,this paper works to solve the drawbacks of the ANFIS by optimizing ANFIS parameters using a modified Aquila Optimizer(AO)with the Opposition-Based Learning(OBL)*** main idea of the developed model,AOOBL-ANFIS,is to enhance the search process of the AO and use the AOOBL to boost the performance of the *** proposed model is evaluated using real-world oil produc-tion datasets collected from different oilfields using several performance metrics,including Root Mean Square Error(RMSE),Mean Absolute Error(MAE),coefficient of determination(R2),Standard Deviation(Std),and computational ***,the AOOBL-ANFIS model is compared to several modified ANFIS models include Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)-ANFIS,Grey Wolf Optimizer(GWO)-ANFIS,Sine Cosine Algorithm(SCA)-ANFIS,Slime Mold Algorithm(SMA)-ANFIS,and Genetic Algorithm(GA)-ANFIS,***,it is compared to well-known time series forecasting methods,namely,Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average(ARIMA),Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM),Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average(SARIMA),and Neural Network(NN).The outcomes verified the high performance of the AOOBL-ANFIS,which outperformed the classic ANFIS model and the compared models.

We consider a perimeter defense problem in a planar conical environment comprising a turret that has a finite range and non-zero startup time. The turret seeks to defend a concentric perimeter against N ≥ 2 intruders. Upon release, each intruder moves radially towards the perimeter with a fixed speed. To capture an intruder, the turret's angle must be aligned with that of the intruder's angle and must spend a specified startup time at that orientation. We address offline and online versions of this optimization problem. Specifically, in the offline version, we establish that in general parameter regimes, this problem is equivalent to solving a Travelling Repairperson Problem with Time Windows (TRP-TW). We then identify specific parameter regimes in which there is a polynomial time algorithm that maximizes the number of intruders captured. In the online version, we present a competitive analysis technique in which we establish a fundamental guarantee on the existence of at best (N – 1)-competitive algorithms. We also design two online algorithms that are provably 1 and 2-competitive in specific parameter regimes.

We introduce an architecture designed for wireless Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) operations during intervention surveys. Using the recent advancements in 3D modeling, visual odometry, video compression, and underwater communication, our approach aims to facilitate fully wireless ROV operations. The proposed architecture comprises several modular blocks, each with versatile applications spanning diverse domains, including multiplayer gaming, remote rover control and video transmission over a low-bandwidth connection. This comprehensive framework signifies progress in ROV operations, replacing the traditional physical tether with a software-defined virtual tether.
